I've successfully used the Campus Backpack as a personal item, but has anyone used the Large Duffel or the Grand Traveler bags as personal items? I'd love to get the Where's Mickey duffel to match my backpack for my husband to use but I'm not sure if it is too large to fit under the seat on the plane. I figured as long as I didn't stuff it full, it would be squishy enough to squeeze under there but was hoping for some first hand experience! Thanks in advance!

Which airline?

My DD had used the Weekender on Delta but it would be too big for Spirit.

It's looking like AA or possibly Southwest. Definitely one of the "regular" airlines, definitely not Frontier, Spirit, or Allegiant.

I do know the weekender fits under the seat. It also has a trolley sleeve that allows you to put your bag onto your rolling suitcase and not worry about it falling off.

I haven't used it but was just looking at a new VB bag to use for my free personal item on Frontier. I'm not sure what the measurements are on other airlines but on Frontier it is 18x14x8. The Weekender looks possible but is 1/2" over on length at 18.5x12.5x8 (I'm going by memory but was looking these up last night). It was close enough I figure it's worth a try. The duffel looked like it was going to be too big, but I can't remember the measurements.

I just flew last month with a bag that was definitely past the 8 inches but still fit fine under the seat.

I routinely use my VB Weekender as carryon...I've stuck it under the seat. But, it wasn't full. It's a sizable bag. The large duffel is probably going to be too big. I have used the small duffel, with good succes. I think the Grand Traveler is bigger than the Weekender, which is why I bought the Weekender. I can stick it beneath the seat if I have to, or put it above me. The Grand would be tough to stick underneath..unless it didn't have much in it.

I've used my Weekender several times as the carry-on several times but never under the seat. Jetblue has started checking carry-on and personal item sizes and will make you check the bag if it doesn't fit in their measuring cubes. It is ridiculous because we have one roller bag that is a carry-on size and has fit in every single over head bin no problem but doesn't fit in their stupid measurement cube. My fiance was allowed to take it on by saying if it doesn't fit I'll pay to check it at the gate (it fit no problem with 3 inches of clearance) and when we wrote the company later they said the sizers are made for the smallest over head bin space in their fleet so it is up to the crew on if they will allow you to continue to security with the bag or not.

It looks like maybe I should look into the Weekender instead... wish they made the VB Disney prints in that bag!

Sorry I also used my Disney duffle for a carry-on. It can not be a personal item under the seat but can be put in the overhead bin. It would fit under the seat not fully filled since it can be manipulated but it is up to the crew if they will let it count as the "personal item" that goes under the seat if you have a second bag.
