So I am supposed to be checking into POR in ONE HOUR!

However, my flight this morning was canceled due to mechanical problems - and we have yet to make it out of the Syracuse airport! We were supposed to leave at 5:50am...

..now our fourth flight out of Syracuse has been delayed (!) and we will not make our connection in Philly. Our 4th attempted connection... geesh!

And also - last night my wisdom tooth broke right in half! I was like "nah, I'll wait it out until after DISNEY!" and it's not hurting at all - but what luck! Please please please let us get to Orlando in one piece (minus half of a tooth)!!

First things first...don't just sit and listen for announcements. Approach the desk and ask (NICELY) if there is any other flight option for you and your family. You may be surprised. If no other options....consider checking with another airline (like SW or Jet Blue) that offers service out of that airport to MCO.

Now, as for the tooth...since you have some time on your hands, check the shops...sometimes they have those small tooth repair kits with a small amount of "putty" which you can use to cover up the broken tooth. You wouldn't want any food going into places it shouldn't and it will help make your tooth more stable. Another option is order a tooth repair kit online (maybe drugstore.com) and have it delivered at your resort...when you DO get there, it will be waiting for you.

Also, be sure to contact your resort and let them know your check-in may be delayed.

You now have some things to do...don't just sit there!!!!!

I'm sorry to hear that. I've flown in and out of Syracuse a few times for work and unfortunatly it's a small airport with limited flights so It's harder to get a connection. The good news is that once you get to Philly, you will be rebooked. Philly is large and they have tons of flights. Hope everything works out.

Since your first flight was a mechanical issue, your delay *should* be treated as a mechanical delay, even if the subsequent flights were due to weather. Had your first plane worked, you'd have missed these weather delays.

As a PP said, you just need to get to MCO - doesn't matter what city you connect through, so don't focus on Syracuse to PHL. See if you can get there via a different city.

Good luck!

I see we are neighbors ( well almost) ....:thumbsup2

You haven't posted again so here is to hoping you are on your way to Orlando!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope you have a great trip :goodvibes

You may want to try connecting via DCA or on a UA codeshare flight via IAD. Best of luck!

I live in Syracuse. One thing I would definately do is look to see what other flights are available on the other major carriers (exclude Jet Blue). Because this is a mechanical issue, the current airline will probably not have any issues rebooking you on another airline to get you to your destination. But you'll probably have to do the legwork to identify a flight that has seats for them.

I assume it's USAir. SW does not fly from Syracuse.

Edit: Not USAir, their flights left on time this morning (checked their website). Which airline was it?

I fly alot for work. One rule I have - only connect through PHL as a last option. There are always delays.

Hopefully you are now in Disney but in the future be aware of rule 240(not always called this ).

It is my understanding they should have put you on the next flight with any air carrier even if it was a better flight then the original becasue of rule 240.

http://consumerist.com/2007/04/dont-fly-without-a-copy-of-rule-240.html

"it's the airline's fault that your flight is delayed or canceled or you missed your connection, whip out a copy of their Rule 240.

Rule 240 refers to the "conditions of carriage" which specify the circumstances in which you're entitled to airline compensation.

You can get meal vouchers, a hotel room, be booked on a substitute flight, or be given a full or partial refund."

"Note that these rules are precluded by weather, war or other events outside the airline's control. But they're all good for things like scheduling snafus, mechanical failure, and general incompetence."

I am not expert on this but seems worth a shot

Rule 240 no longer exists. See also: Deregulation of the airline industry. Airlines will always try and get you on the next flight they can, but they do so according to their CoC, a document drafted entire by, you guessed it, your airline.

Per the US Airways Contract of Carriage

9.4 REBOOKING

When a ticketed customer holding confirmed reservations on a flight will be delayed because of a schedule irregularity (whether a missed connection, flight cancellation, omission of a scheduled stop, substitution of equipment or a different class of service, or schedule change), US Airways will rebook the customer on its next available flight to the customer’s ticketed destination without additional charge. If US Airways is unable to provide onward transportation, US Airways may attempt to rebook the customer on the next available flight of another airline with which US Airways has an agreement allowing the acceptance of each other’s tickets.

Thank you for all of your responses! :goodvibes

We did get into POR last night at 730pm - only 7 hours later than expected (). Had a few issues with that, but now we're in a gorgeous AB room and the boat to DTD last night took all the stress away!!

We were flying Delta - they did move us to US Air, and we got through Washington DC at the last minute.

Delta also gave us credits for future flights. Everything worked out - just really stressed yesterday!

**bought some tooth putty as well - isn't really taking, but it doesn't hurt too bad... thanks for the advice!!

Note the use of the word "may" in "US Airways may attempt...". Kind of makes the line meaningless!

Glad you made it.

HOOORAY!!!!! So happy to hear you made it albeit a bit stressed.

Have a wonderful trip!!!:thumbsup2

Try some brace wax for the broken tooth. They sell it at Walgreens. It always works for me (really, really fragile molars). Have a great vacation! (We lived in Syracuse for 5 years while DH was getting his PhD.)

The airline may not deny you a replacement flight you might have picked out just because all the remaining unfilled seats are in a higher price category.
