Venting About Poly Construction

It is unbelievable that there is still construction going on at the Poly.

We have always split our stay between two resorts and always made one of them the Poly. We changed from the Poly to the YC in May of 2013 because of the construction. We then canceled our entire trip in May of 2014 because of the continued construction at the Poly and went to USO instead.

We are planning on going to the Poly this May, and now I have to worry again about construction. We stay in the Hawaii longhouse which is next to the quiet pool. I won't pay $1,000 a night to look at and listen to construction.

How long can it possibly take to replace a swimming pool?! I know it is themed, I know they are working around guests, I know it is a big area. But six months to replace the quiet pool? With that kind of timetable, we should see the new Star Wars land at DHS sometime in the early 2020's.

You would think that they would be finish but all the construction going around in WDW who knows? I think they have had a lot of rain etc. I am not defending Disney but sometimes they bite off more than they can chew lol. Good luck !! I am hoping they will be finish by next September 2016.

Don't bother, I just went there for the first time since they built those huts on the water. To me, it was very disappointing. It's not the same place anymore. That beach was probably one of the best places in all of Disney, quiet relaxing, incredible views. Now your just looking at someone's bad idea to cash in on more money.

We usually do not spend a lot of time "on" the beach because we stay in the Hawaii building facing the lagoon. We can see the lagoon/Castle from our deck. I am hoping the views from the Hawaii are still pretty good. Anyone have any pictures of the views from the Hawaii since the new "bungled-lows" were installed.

Judging from the outside, it appears as though 90% of the first floor rooms in the Hawaii building will have no view anymore. Just a view of the bungalows. Again, that's just judging from the outside, someone who has been in one may say different.

I avoid a resort if there is construction going on. I feel it takes away from experiance. I have always thought that way but now that I work in construction I definitely don't want to see it while I'm on vacation.

It is true that most first floor rooms now look at bungalows, but 2nd and 3rd floor are still good views. It's possible that by May the construction may be complete, but the schedule is for sometime next summer all the construction will be done for a few years. If you could delay the trip for a couple of months you should be good by then.

For $1000 a night, book the Grand Floridian. Even their garden view standard views are nice and much less than that price. Book club level in Sugar Loaf. We've stayed at the Grand on our last two trips. Won't return to Poly until all construction, no matter how minor, is complete.

What's unbelievable about it? A very quick google search revealed some sites from 18 months ago saying late 2015 is the expected completion. Pushing it back into spring 2016 isn't much of a stretch.
All I mean is that it shouldn't be a surprise - not only has it been publicized but Disney is notoriously slow with every construction project I've ever seen them do. How many years did it take them to open a parking garage (1 of the 2, at least) at Disney Springs? Two years? Longer? What about new fantasyland? Really, this is one of Disney's biggest downfalls. It took Universal less than three years to complete both HP projects from announcement to opening. I can't imagine Toy Story/Star Wars will be finished 3 years from now. Hopefully Poly/Disney Springs will be

Right. I too would want to avoid construction. My point is Disney offers more than just one Deluxe hotel...pick somewhere else to stay, dont postpone your vacation for years because on hotel at WDW is undergoing a rehab.

going in 2 weeks too! first time visit! not nervous at all - just stay away from the quiet pool construction area!

and always top floor! not sure what room you have so idk about buildings!

Thanks for the advice about the top floor and staying away from the quiet pool. I booked a garden view room, thinking we wouldn't be hanging out in the room a lot so the view didn't really matter. But now not sure.

We will be there in late Jan....I am sure the pool will not be completed by then, but my understanding is that construction should be completed in early 2016

The parking garage was one of the quickest builds Disney have done in a while

I leave on Sunday for a week at the Polynesian with my 5 year old son. The construction did not at all deter me. I think we would be using the volcano pool most of the time anyway. We have a theme park view room, but not club level, so looks like we will be in Tuvalu. My main concern is the distance of that longhouse. This is our first time staying at the Poly, and when I called I was told that if the walk is too far then I can upgrade to club, which still has 3 rooms available, and I doubt the will sell out by the 6th. I'd rather not spend the additional $ on concierge level, but Tuvalu looks very out of the way. So we'll see. However, Tuvalu is definitely away from all of the construction.

We've done 4 weekends this year at the Poly and they have been amazing. I requested rooms away from construction (Fiji has been our favorite). Didn't regret it at all.
They finished the main pool and have started on the quiet pool. We don't use the quiet pools as we have 3 small children.
If construction bothers you, definitely skip the Poly this year in favor of a resort without construction.
