Venting About Poly Construction

Thanks for the advice about the top floor and staying away from the quiet pool. I booked a garden view room, thinking we wouldn't be hanging out in the room a lot so the view didn't really matter. But now not sure.

Fiji is my favorite longhouse at the Poly. You may even get a marina view & it's quite relaxing. Fiji is super close to the Great Ceremonial House (monorail) & not far from the boat dock (transportation). It's a walk to the TTC, but it's not bad at all. Have a great time! The Poly is a great resort!

I leave on Sunday for a week at the Polynesian with my 5 year old son. The construction did not at all deter me. I think we would be using the volcano pool most of the time anyway. We have a theme park view room, but not club level, so looks like we will be in Tuvalu. My main concern is the distance of that longhouse. This is our first time staying at the Poly, and when I called I was told that if the walk is too far then I can upgrade to club, which still has 3 rooms available, and I doubt the will sell out by the 6th. I'd rather not spend the additional $ on concierge level, but Tuvalu looks very out of the way. So we'll see. However, Tuvalu is definitely away from all of the construction.
Don't worry about the distance, the Poly is not a spread out resort. You can walk from one end to the other in 5-7 minutes and anywhere to the GCH in 3-5 minutes.

Wow either I'm not alert or Disney did a good job hiding the construction the past few days.

I visited Poly twice and didn't notice any construction, minus some work on the roof artwork....

My DS7 and I just got back from the Poly this past Sunday. We have stayed there 4 times and I always request top floor, however, this time they put us in Fiji, luau cove side, on the first floor. We LOVED it! We could walk right onto the beach that is between Fiji and luau cove and watch the water pageant and the fireworks and there was hardly ever anyone else there. We also had a mommy duck and four baby ducks that would visit on our patio - so cute. It was so nice to just be able to walk out of our room and stroll onto the beach.

IMHO, you really can't go wrong with first or third floor! I would definitely request "away from construction" though. The views from the Rarotonga and Samoa (quiet pool side) and Hawaii (garden view) are pretty bad right now.

Tuvalu is in a great location and really isn't far from anything. There is a lot of construction going on over by Hawaii right now. I would much rather stay in Tuvalu.

Actually, if you get Rarotonga on the monorail side you don't even realize there is construction going on either. We had a first floor room last month and loved that spot. They were jack-hammering to remove the old pool and we didn't hear a thing. We only "saw" that there was construction when we walked over to TTC and went past the fence. Even the first floor would have been fine on the pool side since you couldn't have seen in the fence. Upper floors on that side would have a view of the work being done.

The worse building of the bunch is for sure Hawaii. Those folks pay higher bucks to stay club level and they really do have a poor view. If view is a high priority for someone I would forgo CL at Poly for now

Just stayed there in august...imo nothing at the poly is out of the way...it is not a very large resort...

I'm always worried that on the first floor - kids will be stomping above me :( - is that an issue or did you hear anything?

We were on the first floor and we never heard anyone above us. We didn't hear anything once in our room. Not even the monorail and it was quite close

Thanks! :) - I won't be mad with a bottom floor then!

I would never knowingly book a resort undergoing renovation/construction.

Trust me I wouldn't either - I'm only doing so because I'm getting the DVC Studios cash rate very cheap. If I wasn't - then I wouldn't even bother. Also - it was Value or Poly and tbh I would choose Poly hahaha

I wish more people felt like you do on this subject. Would have been much better for me, could have booked the dates that I wanted instead of early September.

Yes, absolutely! As I said, I just wouldn't want to be on the quiet pool side of Rarotonga or Samoa right now. Even the first floor, IMHO. Really wouldn't want to look at that fence the whole trip and there is a lot of foot traffic on that path.

To the PP who asked about noise coming from above on the first floor, we heard nothing as well.

We just returned from a week at the Poly, with a third floor view (Hawaii) overlooking the quiet pool construction. I was a little nervous beforehand from reading comments on here, but it really wasn't a big deal AT ALL. We didn't hear any construction noise, and honestly most of the time we had the sheers drawn when we were in the room.

The Poly is a beautiful resort, the pool is fantastic, and I would say they are at the point now where the construction is an unobtrusive as it can be, aside from the eyesore of what our family loving referred to as the "mud pit"

I just uploaded pictures from our stay today so here it is, in all it's glory ;)

Looking straight down from third floor, not so bad!

And here is a view from the second floor lounge. The bungalows really weren't in the way of the view as MK is off in the distance and the bungalows are below. It's kind of like the MK view from CR - you don't look down at the parking lot, you look across to the MK :thumbsup2

We were planning on going to the Poly in a few wks--club level. We can also stay at the YC club level. We wanted to try the Poly as we haven't been club level there before (and have been to YC club several times.) Disappointed to see the construction outside of Hawaii. Thx for posting those pics btw. For all of you who probably know Disney more than I do, would you recommend bypassing the Poly (at least club level) 'til the construction is over?

If I were to stay in Poly CL right now, i would only do so if I were booking a TPV room. However, I would be inclined to wait, if possible, and stay elsewhere until the construction is finished. We have visited the Poly during the construction and been very happy that we chose to stay elsewhere! Both the GF and the CR are awesome monorail resorts as well. GF RPC is awesome and the CR CL is also top notch. LOVE both!

Don't get me wrong - we LOVe the Poly. However, like Lisaloo, we never knowingly book a resort under construction. (Been there, done that - never again!)

We usually do not spend a lot of time "on" the beach because we stay in the Hawaii building facing the lagoon. We can see the lagoon/Castle from our deck. I am hoping the views from the Hawaii are still pretty good. Anyone have any pictures of the views from the Hawaii since the new "bungled-lows" were installed.
We spent 8 days at the Poly at the end of August. Our room was Hawaii first floor facing the lagoon/bungalows. The roof height of the bungalows actually lines up pretty well with the tree line in the horizon so it didn't affect our view of the castle or the fireworks from our room. The view from the lounge and the offerings were still great, as always. We had a fantastic time and were not negatively in any way by the construction because it was on the opposite side of the building. We would have no reservations about staying there again.
