Venting about complainers!!!!!

Hyperbole and exaggerated disgust are not helpful
Agreed. Whenever I see a review with the word "amazing" I can usually count on it containing only the reviewer's reaction and not information about the food. That doesn't mean there's anything wrong with doing that, just that it's not useful to me.

So I was reading here about mushy peas. Mushy peas? Okay. So I goggled them and they appear to be something like refried beans, only green peas instead of pinto beans. Is that right?

Oh, although, to make them traditionally, you use DRIED peas, and cook them until they mush.

From what I understand (even from the people who work in the Canadian pavilion) it is nothing like Poutine - it really should be curds in the signature or just call them cheese fries - but it's not unusual inb Montreal to see the option to replace cheese curds (for an extra dollar) with cheddar, at least in my experience.

That being said the Korean Barbecue Poutine and French onion both sound interesting...but again even General Toa Chicken Poutine usually has curds - to me the curds is what makes it Poutine.

It's unfortunate that they don't sell it at a stand in the Canadian Pavilion, maybe next to the beer cart would be a good location...or replace the mill stage with a Poutine stand.

Am I complaining again??? ;)
I agree, its gotta be cheese curds. No doubt about it! However my philosophy is, as long as it taste good, that's what matters. Im open to trying different versions of poutine even if its not cheese curds or the real thing. While we're on the subject, you know which "poutine" REALLY grosses me out? The Italian Poutine...fries with mozzarella and bolognese sauce.....GAG!!! NO THANK YOU!! I'll definitely pass on that one. The thought of it makes me ill.

I see both sides of the argument. The posts stating I'm from (fill in the blank), so I'm uniquely qualified to tell you if a dish is good or not can be obnoxious. Those who think they "know" good pizza are the worst. People don't seen to realize we all tend to like what we grew up eating. I happened to grow up in the South. To me, Disney's version of Southern, comfort food is vile. People who didn't grow up eating Mom's fried chicken, biscuits & gravy, etc. appear to love places like LTT. Likewise, just because one thinks NY, Chicago, etc. has the best pizza ever, doesn't mean everyone agrees. The same is true for pretty much all types of food. I've had excellent Italian food in NYC. I've also had equally good Italian food in Florida. The best Italian food I've ever had was made by an Italian friend of my parents who happened to live in Maryland. The fact is Disney food is low quality for the price regardless of what type of food it is. That wasn't the case in the 90s, but it is now. It doesn't take someone from a certain state or region to tell you that.

Where is the "love" button?!

Totally agree with this!!! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 I too find it EXTREMELY annoying!

I have seen so many people ....either New Englanders complaining about the lobster rolls....or the Chicagoans complaining about the pizza...or the NOLA's complaining about the beignets or jambalaya or the NY'ers complaining about the Italian food etc....ya gotta review with a bit of common sense! Of course the above stated item is better where you come from......IT SHOULD BE!!!! But so many people are coming to WDW and trying something different for the first time...and it might be their only time.....whether they are from Alabama or Argentina.....it might be their only time to try something that they really can't get in their hometown. Be more objective when you're being critical. It can't all be "Magical" but there's nothing positive in tearing it down!

I disagree.

There is no reason a Disney restaurant cannot make an authentic dish.
I appreciate everyone's honest reviews. Indeed, most of us have eaten those special dishes in those particular cities so of course I want to know from that level how the dish tastes in Disney.
So keep up those reviews people!

so here's the thing: I grew up working as a stern (wo)man on my dad's lobster boat, so it's safe to say i know Maine Lobster... so, as not to get let down by food, i choose NOT to eat things that will definitely disappoint me... Lobster at Disney is one of those things. Really, lobster anywhere by my kitchen/deck...

I will come at it from a different perspective. I cook 7 days a week. We cannot go out to eat. My daughter has celiac disease and if we try to eat out, she gets sick. I am just happy not to have to plan, cook or clean up a meal. Disney feeds my daughter safely. I have only had a truly bad meal 1 time in all the years we have been going to WDW and it was at Garden Grill.

I agree with you, there's more to it.

I lived several years in Naples Italy. I pretty much know what "real" pizza looks and tastes like.
I never, ever get into that discussion anywhere. Not on the DIS, not in real life.
It was great to live there, but I'm able to enjoy most things where I am.

Keep in mind that Neapolitan pizza differs from Roman pizza which differs from Sicilian pizza, etc. I know that, for many, the gold standard for pizza is Neapolitan, but to call it "real" pizza does a disservice to the other styles eaten and enjoyed throughout Italy. Similar variations of styles exist in the US. A person can say one or the other is "better" or "more authentic" or "real", but it will still always come down to personal preference. In other words, don't yuck my yum.

For anyone interested, here's a great article about the many variations of pizza styles in the US: http://slice.seriouseats.com/archives/2008/01/a-list-of-regional-pizza-styles.html

Add me to the lobster snob list. I grew up in Maine/NH on the seacoast; my uncles were lobstermen, and I knew how to crack open a lobster and eat it from a young age.
One thing I learned about FL and in general lobsters in the South, is that they don't come with claws. So for me, I don't order lobster or clams anywhere but at home. Now, that's not saying I'll ban all seafood when I'm in FL; in my experience shrimp is usually decent. However, I know lots of people from other parts of the country who think the lobster rolls in FL are amazing. It's all in frame of reference.
I generally look at reviews and if I see a common theme (like if many people say something negative about the same dish), I think those reviews have some merit. But people who only say "It was awful" I tend to ignore because it's such a vast generalization, and there are many factors (besides the food) that may have contributed to their negative experience.

:D
Indeed. And when I use quotation marks around a word, it means it's not being used in the literal sense. So-called "real"...
I've enjoyed great pizza around Italy. Honestly, one of the best pizzerias I've ever been to was in Germany.

Anybody who wants to can complain about the food. There aren't any board guidelines that say "no complaining about the food." All posters also can agree or disagree with someone else's assessment as long as they don't attack them over it.

I do agree that Tony's is pretty bad. I don't even like lobster so I can't say squat about the lobster rolls. and I'll eat pretty much anything that resembles pizza.

Personally I think you should take everyone's opinion with a grain of salt sort of speak. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and everyone else is entitled to either listen to said person's opinion or take that persons opinion into consideration or just ignore that persons opinion. Everyone has their own set of taste buds so what 1 person might think is totally disgusting another person might think is totally amazing. Now in my own opinion I know we are in Disney and I know we are eating at a theme park and I take all those things into consideration when we eat where we do. I don't expect Disney do be serving 5 star quality food unless I am paying to eat at a signature restaurant like Victoria & Alberts. As long as the food is edible and tastes yummy (to us) we are happy. I think when people on this board ask for opinions on different restaurants your going to get mixed reviews on almost every place, because everyone has different taste buds. Take Chef Mickey's for instance...we have eaten their dinner and their breakfast before...dinner was just not that good for us we didn't have a good variety of foods that my family liked. Breakfast on the other hand is always decent for us anyways. Is it the best breakfast on Disney property, no probably not, but is it awful enough that you should tell people to never eat here again, probably not that either. I think everyone should keep in mind that you are eating at Disney, not 5 star meals every day, and stop comparing what Disney serves to what you can get at home. You are just ruining the magic of Disney for yourself. If you are going to be constantly comparing things than get something that you can't get at home.

I don't set myself up for failure when it comes to food while on vacation, including WDW. So I don't eat cheesesteaks, bagels or most pizza while on vacation. Ill try Giordano's, I love VN and if I'm in Chicago or NYC of course I'll eat their pizza and bagels.

I was raised to eat what was on our plate so there's not really anything I find "inedible." It may not be my favorite or my #1 choice at the time but I can eat it and be happy.

What gets me is the poor job Disney does no basic "food"

QS hamburgers??? Hmm... they are edible, but then so were the ones my college dorm cafeteria served. THat does not mean they were any good :)

Cold fries, wilted salads, etc.... There's a lot they could do better, but they chose not to. And why should they? We keep buying as it is!

I don't see it just with the "international food" they aren't doing a good job on "American"

Yeah, I agree..I'm from Scotland and that haggis at the food and wine in 2014 was not haggis..There is no such thing as a vegetarian haggis..You gotta get up very early in the morning, head for the hills, and shoot the little vermin..lol.

I wonder exactly what is in "vegetarian haggis." I'm not Scottish, but I know what haggis is supposed to be!

Certain not what's on offer at Epcot, maybe I need to open a stall at the F&W selling genuine British fare
