Venting about complainers!!!!!

It's funny, I was preparing to say this exactly. I'm from the heart of Philadelphia and whenever I've had a cheesesteak in my travels, they just aren't like the "originals" back home. Does that mean it doesn't taste great to others? Not at all, it just doesn't taste that great to this Philadelphian. Keep in mind though, us Philadelphians can't even decide on who makes the best cheesesteak in our city! If I am not impressed with something, I won't sugarcoat it but I also do always try to encourage people to try something before they make up their mind, and don't take my opinion for gospel. I just won't lie and say "yep that Disney cheesesteak is great!" when in my seasoned cheesesteak opinion, it isn't.

I also feel this way about almost every morsel of Italian in Disney too, as where I live is heavily, heavily old school Italian. I will be honest when I say "yes, that spaghetti really isn't that great" (I'm looking at you, Tony's...) but I also would never think to tell others they wouldn't/shouldn't like it, etc.
Honestly the worst part about the cheesesteaks in Disney are the rolls. And I agree about the Italian, I don't care for Tony's at all, and though I will eat at Mama Melrose's and Epcot's Italian restaurants I can get just as good and better at home.

I am glad I read through this thread before giving in to temptation and deciding to try and book the Tony's FOF package. As an Italian who grew up in New Jersey and now lives in New England I was disappointed with the lobster roll at CHH and it seems like I would most likely be setting myself up for similar feelings at Tony's. Obviously nothing wrong with Tony's or CHH I guess it is really just about expectations?

I would probably adore the cheesesteaks! :earsboy:

So what is the "real deal"? Please provide a recipe. I'd love to see how it differs from all of the Maryland crab cake recipes out there, and exactly how they differ from signature restaurants that specialize in seafood. Seriously, I want to know. I honestly can't say that all of the crab cakes I've had in Maryland over the years stand out over any I've had at Flying Fish or Narcoossee's. I've had crab cakes in Maryland (mostly near Baltimore) probably a dozen times or more, and while delicious, nothing that makes me turn my nose up at Disney's... not by a long shot.

Are they using fake crab? Are they using lots of bread instead of a bit of bread crumbs? Are they using fake mayo or mustard? Fake Old Bay? Fake herbs? What makes them not the "real deal"?

Thank you!!

yeah - the rolls for the hotdogs and hamburgers are also terrible....I don't even bother with Caseys anymore - they were nicknamed the "sawdust rolls" a few years back when they switched to them because they fall apart - completely useless .

As for Tony's - I just find it offensive to charge that much for a frozen chicken parm covered with a tin of sauce and overcooked pasta....at home I get a fresh very large piece of veal for the same price. They can do better for that price - at least use fresh chicken

I think there is a difference between complaining and giving an honest opinion or review.

Example: I am from Texas so I think that style of bbq is the best ever, but also enjoy Memphis and KC style. I can't stand Carolina bbq though, so living here for 18 years and hearing how awesome it is can be annoying. It's pork (I prefer beef) and has a yellow mustard based sauce (I prefer red/brown) and is not smoked the same way (I prefer mesquite). So if someone is critiquing in that way I have no problem- it helps me decide if I would like something or not.

What one person says has no flavor might be spicy to another. I can still like Tony's while agreeing it's not authentic Italian like my stepmom makes.

Like others have said- it's about expectations, and you have to know where the poster is coming from.

I'm from Western North Carolina & we don't eat what most people consider Carolina bbq either. That's mostly a Piedmont & Eastern North Carolina style of bbq. If you're even in Western NC, give their bbq a try. It will still be made from pork, but you'll probably like the sauce better.

FWIW, I'll try any kind of bbq. The style I really don't like is smoked bbq with a rub instead of sauce. I mostly like the sauce. I agree that knowing what kind of bbq a restaurant serves is very helpful. What some people don't find helpful is those who say, "I'm from Texas, Memphis, NC, etc., so I know good bbq. The bbq we were served was awful. Don't eat there." When in fact, the bbq may just not be the style the reviewer is used to & prefers. Many people may disagree.

Hahahaha yes!! They need the Amoroso's or Sarcone's rolls! That is what makes it. I do prefer real wiz as well but I will settle for non-wiz too. We did like Trattoria Al Forno though, I'd definitely go back there. Off topic but when I was at Yankee Stadium for the World Series, some guys in a Philly Steak and Cheese line were heckling me as a Phillies fan...I yelled back "you're heckling me but you can't even get it right, it's never a Steak and Cheese, it's a Cheesesteak!!" petty, I know hahahah :rotfl:
