Vent: work

I guess I haven't had enough coffee yet this morning because I'm still thoroughly confused.. If the soda isn't that big of a deal, why on earth would someone send the boss a "soda photo"? Maybe that's the real issue - he/she is trying to find out who would do such a petty thing.. :confused3

It does seem really petty. If they make such a fuss over a soda, I'd hate to see what they'd do for someone having a beer.

Thats whats irrating. To me its not a big deal.

The date was fine but I caught him lying to me mutiple times so he got dumped. ITs not a bear at the end, its MOE! my hammy-butt.

So we went on a feild trip almost a week and a half ago. so my lead teacher we can call her X, decides to take off her feild trip shirt. She also decides that its ok to leave her group and go talk to another teachers children while were on the bus. Then after lunch shes on the playground with a soda. So someone sends the soda photo to my boss and now shes conducting a investigation. Im the ONLY one whos been called in the office twice. My boss asked me about a million questions and expects me to remember all that went on. Excuse me? Im buzy with my students, nOt babysitting x. Im so frustrated with this cause I have no real answers for her but Im the one stuck in the middle. Sorry, Hada vent. Also no one could track this to me. Im on a freind computer.

But you couldn't have been that busy, because you DO remember every detail of what X did.
Are you the person that sent the picture? It seems like you were awfully concerned with every move she made that day. It makes sense that you would have tried to get her in trouble.

And why would you need to use a friend's computer so no one would track you? Do you have reason to believe your daycare boss is scanning the Disney type message boards looking for mention of her daycare staff?

Don't you work in a preschool? If that is right, then I can clue other posters into why any one of these might be a big deal.

The field trip shirts are so that the children and teachers can be recognized by each other in a split second. I wouldn't have gone to any extreme with the reprimand but it was a rule in our center that the teacher's wear their t-shirts on field trips. (our policy was that the center bought the shirts for the teachers so that they all had one, we did not buy them for the kids so could only ask the parents if they wanted one and explain the reason behind it but could not require the parents to purchase the shirts).

Leaving your students to go talk to another teacher? Talking to another adult is not the problem, the problem is "leaving" your students. Ratio is not debatable. You have x# of students and you will stay with x# of students. Even if they are asleep, even if they are buckled into their seats, ratio must be maintained. You are being paid to supervise the children not talk to other adults. If you can sit on the bus in a way that you can supervise your children and talk to another adult, so be it; otherwise your conversation is with the children.

Soda on the playground. Another rule we also had. The teachers could not have anything in front of the kids that the kids could not have. They had breaks and could drink whatever they wanted on those breaks. During nap time, they could have soda in their classroom. On the playground, the kids had water and so did the teachers.

Childcare centers/preschools have rules that may be a bit different than other workplaces and different than schools. As a director/owner, your first consideration has to be with the children not the comfort of the staff.

OP, your boss should be handling this in a way that doesn't single you out but there is not much you can do about it. He/she should just have a meeting and address the problems to the group; if the lead teacher still decides to break the rules, then she should be dealt with individually.

As for a "soda photo", I don't understand that--maybe a parent is trying to get rid of the teacher?

i am pretty sure that everyone already new these things, i think they are just messing with the op.

oh, ok. Why? Just good teasing or has the OP done something or said something in the past to cause people to seem to make fun of her?

Maybe I am just reading with the wrong tone. (which very well could be, we have had the week from hades at work--apparently everyone in the southeast has decided they MUST attend our community college and every single one stood in front of my desk at one time or another in the past 5 days!!)

I didn't know she worked in a daycare, I figured it was elementary age or so. And a lot of those rules do seem kind of extreme to me. I get the t-shirt one so they can be recognized, but I know my teachers had stuff we couldn't have, so the soda rule doesn't make any sense to me, and neither does the talking to other teachers on the bus as long as the other students are safe.

Yea I teach preschool. I only know what she did cause I was pissed that she wasnt helping buckle on the bus or counting the kids (center rule, were suposted to count every 5 mins) at the park. I know who sent the soda photo. A hammybutt, thats what we call my hamster. Hes Moe hammybutt. LOL

The soda rule would be different for each center, just as it would for each office. In our center, we just made it a rule that the staff could not have anything in front of the kids that the kids could not have. It wasn't like they could NEVER have a soda or coffee or whatever; they just had to have it on break or during nap time. It really wasn't that big of a deal and we never had an issue with it.

The leaving the kids to talk to another adult, for us anyway, was a huge no-no. If a child that you were supposed to be supervising undid their seat belt and fell out of the seat getting hurt on the bus; the center could be in HUGE trouble if ratio wasn't being maintained. The adult in charge being away from their group is not maintaining ratio. Make sense?

OP, I'm sorry your boss seems to be singling you out during all this.

I've haven't been sleeping well lately so I've been killing time on here reading lots more threads than I normally do, but apparently my reading comprehension is suffering due to the lack of sleep. I was reading through this thread and I had to read the bolded portion several times before I finally figured out what you meant. I thought you were saying that your hamster Moe sent the photograph. :lmao: I realize now what you were really saying, but it was hilarious for a while there.

Could I be any more confused?????????? :confused3

Nope.

Just sayin'...........

ok now that the OP who works at ( I think ) explained the soda deal and leaving the kids unattended on the bus, I get it. And the t-shirt. I know my daughter has to wear her school shirt on a field trip, period.

Can't wait to have an update to see what happened. Guess we'll have to wait till Monday??

OP

Did you send the picture? That would explain why you are being questioned more than the others.

i am pretty sure that everyone already new these things, i think they are just messing with the op.

Really? I was grateful to luvsJack for shedding a little light on the OP's post. I had no clue why a "soda photo" would be causing so much consternation. :confused3 Actually, I still don't get why someone would be sending the boss a soda photo anyway.

You are welcome. :) But, I am still not really understanding why someone would go to the trouble of making a "soda photo". :rotfl: The rule for not drinking it, I understand but the going to the actual trouble of taking a picture of it? :confused3 That is a bit over the top. As a former child care director/owner, I would have seriously questioned whether the person making the photo needed to get a life.

I think the whole point of the OP's post is that none of this is a big deal to her, but her director is making it a big deal. And is interfering with the OP's work-life in doing so.
