I am so sick of stores jacking their prices up so they can have a huge sale!! JCP and Kohls are the worst, I mean, have you ever bought something at their retail price? Now, today I went to go order a couple more coats from Old Navy to donate. I bought my sons coats a couple of weeks ago- $34.99 (plus they were 50% off and 30% off w/ON cc) and planned on getting a couple more. Well, now they are 50% off again, but the same coats I got are marked as $49.99. Grrr... just really irritating when you are trying to figure out who has the best buys.

It is frustrating! The best you can do is keep up with the prices and shop around. Sometimes you can find a sale that is a sale. But you really have to know the prices. I don't like it either.

When they put Boscovs in at the local mall, my wife just had to go for their openning sales. Signs everywhere stating 40-60% off. We looked at a bunch of stuff, then just went to Walmart and bought everything much cheaper at their regular price.

Well, you can blame consumers for this. Instead of being informed consumers ,like people on this board, most people will wait until they are told they are getting a deal. Also, the bigger the number the better the perceived bargain, meaning people are much more likely to buy if the retailer marks the price up 25% and then has a 50% off sale then if they just had a 25% off sale. That being said, with the Internet there is no reason for not knowing your prices. Except for very cheap items I never buy on impulse. I meticulously research prices online before making a purchase.

It has been this way forever. I learned when I worked for Victoria's Secret in the 80's that you never pay retail. BTW in case you're wondering what her "secret" is it is that they only have a mailing address in London, or at least that is how it was in the late 80's. My manager shushed me when I brought up London when I first started working there. All in all, still a great little store. I still love there stuff.

you hit the nail on the head. My husband works for JCP home office and yep consumers are conditioned that if it isn't on sale they won't buy it, perceived value and all of that. But please don't think that they are raking in money hand over fist. They lose a lot of money when all of that stuff hits clearance. I think all retailers do it to a certain degree. But Penneys doesn't move their original price around. If it's $50 it's always $50. It might be 50% off or 20% off. But always $50. You just have to decide if they will have your size/color left when you are ready to buy it at 50% off.

This is why I don't shop at Khols. I went in there when kids character pj's were 50% off....the orig price was $26.99....no way!The clothes were way over priced too. Maybe I am missing something with Khols??

Oh, I know retailers aren't raking in money this year. Unless your Walmart that can order products from manufacturers when they are sold, retailing is a big gamble. I especially am aware of how JCP loose $$, because some of it winds up at the JCP outlet near my house. Actually, I'm sure JCP has a rather difficult time moving merchandise now a days with fewer consumers going to malls and all the competition online.

I wouldn't totally rule out Kohl's, you can get good deals there even though their sales are exaggerated, especially when using their coupons. Also, they have incredible end-of-season clearance sales.

Kohls often sends out additional money off coupons, we get from 15-30% off regularly here. Add that to $10 in Kohls cash for each $50 purchase on occasion, then it is clean up time.
