Gee, I go away for an evening and things are all heated up over here. :rotfl:

MKrop, add sunflower seeds to your list of no-nos. DD used to play softball and munch on those but they were apparently the cause of loose brackets 2 times. It's a pain to have to get in there on a weekend to have it fixed, too!:flower3:

Most of the stuff including sunflower seeds he doesnt eat. He was the most bummed about popcorn, Doritos, bagels and then the whole ice cream thing. I told him that I think if he brushes after eating the ice cream he should be good.:thumbsup2

Now the whole brushing routine that is involved, I am questioning if all that is necesssary bc it is a pain in the rear right now.

Also, if she actually did ask for a mod to close the thread, it would have been done by now.
I for one am glad she didn't request this. I can't stand it when someone starts a thread, realizes it's not going to end up all back patty, poor baby responses, then asks to have the thread closed.
So, while I still think your vent is petty Mkrop, I admire the way you haven't had a temper tantrum and stormed away.

I thought it had died when no one else seemed interested overnight. Ok on to the next topic no skin off my nose but YOU posted a question this morning and I answered it. I was taught that if someone asks you a question you answer it even if you are repeating yourself for the upteemth time.

So once again you can choose to go leave as well Bye Bye:wave2:

You might not have got much of a response overnight because that's typically when people go to sleep.

I don't want to leave. I'm not sure why people think that. I think this is fascinating. I also wasn't the one who said you shouldn't have answered my question. I asked it so that you would answer it. Someone else said that. I simply pointed out that you must want to continue the conversation since you keep responding. We agree. Now, can we get back to the actual conversation please.

I also don't like when people start a thread and then whine when other people disagree with them. Don't get me wrong - I wasn't suggesting that she should get the thread closed. I was just pointing out that she could if she really wanted to.

Anyway...on with the thread...

Uh thanks I think

My responses will be in red:

Duh, do you think someone needs that pointed out to them?

But you are the one that said something about this thread lasting two days, right? Don't point out that it's lasted two days when it shouldn't have, when you're the one that brought the thread back from the dead.

SHE never said she wanted the thread closed, or dead. She only pointed out that YOU are the one that brought it back to life, so whatcha complaining about?

Anyway...on with the thread...

Well, I'm glad we have your permission.

Why do you think Doritos are on there and not regular tortilla chips? Odd. Maybe it's the dye? Or maybe the coating? I have no idea; that's really weird.

I just googled and it said because they are a really hard food. But it also said no tortilla chips or corn chips. I'd think regular tortilla chips were fine (like tostitos) but that maybe the harder ones (like tostitos gold) would be a no-no. Heck, I ate it all, so who knows??

I just remember REALLY wanting corn on the cob and a caramel apple. Well I've told you the caramel apple is seriously bad - gooey nightmare - and I tried to cut it up first. Yeah that was bad. But the corn on the cob, no matter what... I just couldn't bite it off the cob. So I cut if off, since it tastes different when it's on the cob.... yeah so not the same.

With the sugary foods they're trying to keep it from getting stuck in the braces and furthering tooth decay. Every once in a while the ortho would let me go brush my teeth when they got all the wires off during those monthly changes - wayyyy easier to brush then! I think brushing is the most important thing to worry about, because you spend all that money to get the teeth straight in the first place, you don't really want him to have a ton of cavities or odd stains on his teeth because of the braces, KWIM?

Because taking gum away from a 10 year old who is probably sad because he won't be allowed to chew gum for the next 2 years and giving it to another sibling would be a smart idea?

Seriously. Do you have kids?

Bad idea. All around. I would just take the gum and throw it away if it came to that. Sorry, but giving a present (even if it is something as silly as a pack of gum) that was intended for one child and giving it to another family member is insane. AND cruel.

WOW - I have children, although they are adults now, anyway DD has a lot of health problems. She has to be careful about what she eats and limit her activities. If she received food that she could not have we gave it to her brother. On family vacations to Disney there were activities that she could not participate in but her brother could. These were great times to teach her that life isn't always fair and she had to make the best of her situation and live with her limitations. The world does not cater to individuals with illnesses or handicaps and I think that is a lesson that kids with limitations need to learn at a young age. It make life much easier in the future

I?

Like is aid I was shocked by Doritos and then the hygienest added only thin potatoe chips like Lays classic, no ridges and if he insisted on pretzels (he doesnt like them so no biggie) to go with pretzel sticks. But a soft preztel was ok if her tore it apart. And cheezits and goldfish ok if her bites them with the side of his mouth. This was all new to me.

I assumed maybe it was the kind of braces they use now. I had the bands that went all around my teeth which appear more durable then just the bracket that is stuck to his teeth. I dont know.

I have straight teeth on top, but a couple of crooked ones on the bottom. I never got braces, because I didn't want to spend all the $$ to straighten a couple of teeth that no one sees anyway.

But my DH had horrible teeth, so he got braces when he was a teenager.

The thing is, the braces were bad for him. He was raised on well water, so no flouride or anything.

The lack of flouride in his drinking water made the enamel on his teeth not as strong as most peoples. When his braces came off, parts of the enamel came off with it.

It was a bad, bad mess.

So, the point of this post is: if your kids have braces and drink well water, you should probably buy the bottled drinking water with flouride added.

Our water is tap. But they also make DS10 brush with a prescription fluroide gel stuff every night as well.

Even after reading all 11 pages of this thread I can't guarantee that I would remember the no gum/chewy candy rule when puting together a gift for someone.

I don't think your neighbor was being thoughtless it probably just didn't occure to her that there would be a problem.

Now if she had a child with braces going to the same Ortho at the same time as your son then maybe thoughtless would be the word.

Chalk it up to a like lesson for your son and a future funny story for him to tell when his kids get braces.
