Vent about Netflix

We tried Netflix (streaming only) for a couple of months after we bought a Blu-Ray player. I wasn't impressed at all, and we discontinued it. It just seemed like a bunch of TV shows and mostly oddball movies we'd never heard of.
We're watching the Angelina Jolie movie, "Salt" tonight. That's about as mainstream and blockbuster as you can get, eh?

We watched an episode of "21 Jump Street", but the video was not very clear.
It wasn't very clear when it was originally produced. Remember how long ago that was: 1987. As late as 1999 series were still being produced specifically for NTSC 480i. It's only been the last decade that production values have been aimed higher.

Also note that streaming services dynamically moderate your video quality based on the quality if your personal connection to the Internet. Even within my own home I'll get different video quality going through a wireless-G connection through two floors to the router versus going through a direct RJ-45 (wired) connection to the router.

Just a note about this, because someone may recall I've been generally disappointed with Netflix streaming because it hasn't been adequately accommodating to the disabled, specifically vis a vis my hearing impaired wife. Well, things are changing. Over 30% of Netflix's titles are now subtitled for streaming.

The other problem we faced is that the Netflix software that supports subtitles for streaming is only available for a few devices, and none of our Netflix-compatible devices are among them, including our Xbox 360, our TiVo, our HDTV, nor our Blu-ray disc player. They all support Netflix streaming, but Netflix hasn't updated the software on any of them to present the subtitles. However, I realized just the other day that we do have one device that would work: My laptop. So assuming it works tonight, this subtitle-dependent home is entering the world of Netflix streaming tonight.

The movie options stunk and it was a struggle to find anything we wanted to see. I did enjoy the movie Babies, and there was some Bruce Willis movie about people having robots living their lives for them that we kind of enjoyed. But we had to search long and hard for that. And the Bruce Willis one was kind of jumpy. We couldn't tell if it was the streaming or if it was supposed to look like that.

I guess Netflix must be way more enjoyable if you have movies delivered to your house, because we sure couldn't figure out why so many of our friends LOVE Netflix and have been customers for years.

We love it for the obscure stuff. TV series and anime. That is stuff you could never get in the video store ever. It is like heaven.:littleangel:

They even had some originals now and not the dubs! It is so cool.

I completely agree!! We would see a movie, click on it & it only be available in dvd/bluray. I was very disappointed!!
