Vent about limits on buying Sudafed

I feel your pain! I absolutely hate this stupid law. Have we seen any reduction in meth production since this law was enacted?

Last winter, Walmart had these boxes of Sudafed that were a multi-pack type of thing -- like two boxes glued together. The pharmacist told me that I might not be able to buy them like that because of the law and I about had a fit (not AT her, but TO her). She did some kind of override so I could buy it, but we both had a good vent about the whole thing.

Blame the methamphetamine addicts for that one. Yet another law that hurts the law abiding consumer and does nothing to stop meth heads, because they just steal the stuff rather than buy it.

No way, Jose. The drug people I have very little problem with. I don't bother them, they don't bother me.

I blame the morons who enacted the law - it is the government guys that are standing between me and my Mucinex...they are the ones pissing me off. Keeping track of how much Sudafed I buy and preventing me from buying some Mucinex is not going to win their stupid War on Drugs.

I think the Sudafed thing is crap. The PE pills do nothing for me. That, and, really, we're getting to limitiing the stupidest of things. So what if a few people will do bad with this, what about the rest of us? Last I checked, there was this thing called majority rule...guess that only applies in some cases. Anywho, it's a stupid rule, but, alas, what can we do about it?

You can't steal it easily. It is behind the pharmacy counter.

I'm laughing here! That just makes it easier for the workers! And easier on worker friends.

Here we are limited on how much we can buy per month. And since only an adult can buy it I have no idea what a family with more than 2 kids does if they all get sick. We pretty much just stockpile and buy our limit every month because we all have allergies and use quite a bit.

It is hard!!! We have 5 kids but, only 4 still at home. And two of those would take adult does!!!

DH says he is waiting for a knock on the door......:rotfl:

At Costco, they have generic Claritin, 300 pills for 11.00. Takes care of that whole annoying thing.

I have to have the type with D. Regular Claritin does nothing for me.....

I try to keep a stock on hand just to avoid this. Invariably, allergies will hit when it's hard to get the stuff so I'll buy extra even when we don't need it.

I havent bought some in awhile but you can go to one store buy some and then go down the road and buy some more:confused3 am I understanding this correctly, this is insane???????

Not in Ohio. They won't let you buy it without your driver's license and they swipe that. Each person is only allowed so much per month.

I had to get someone else buy me more mucinex when I had pneumonia. I don't know if that is legal or not and I don't care.

That is the way it is for me. I have yet to be asked for my drivers license. I can buy as much as I want as long as I go from store to store buying 1 at a time. :confused3

BLAME OKLAHOMA!

We were so tired of putting these stinking meth producers in jail, and picking up the pieces of the houses they blew up while producing it, we were one of the first states to enact this law, guess what all the meth producers left, and we don't have mobile homes blowing up every week.

Sorry, but it WAS needed, just plan on you purchases...

Oklahoma also tracks if you purchase ANYTHING outside the US to see if your buying this stuff internationally. So, we actually got rid of them, but that just means they just moved to your state.

I wouldnt care I would have someone make a run for me too. I hate stupid laws!

For those of you asking if the law is doing any good, the answer is YES. We have had a couple of major busts in our small rural town... and the pharmacy records helped put them away.

For those that drive from place to place.... be careful.... they will question you and possibly refuse to sell to you if your name shows up in too many places.

I understand it's a pain for consumers as well as those of us that run the place.... but if it helps put some drug manufacturers in jail then I am all for it.

Okay, then. Let's put a limit on cough syrups and matches, as they can be used, separately, for drugs. Really, if you look at it in the big picture, it's done nothing but make buying sudafed a nusience. Has it cut down the meth problem? I truly doubt it, based on what I'm seeing, locally. The meth problem has increased. And, if you look at it another way, if we really wanted to stop illegal drug use, we'd have to put a limit to far more than just Sudafed.

This law is a hamper upon families with children. Families with children need allergy medicines, like this, and if PE doesn't do anything, what's the point? Me, I can't use Claratin (and I wish they'd get that crap off the shelves...), and the original Sudafed is about the only thing that helps my allergies/sinuses fully, and I go through it, living in the south, quickly, so we stock up, and if they question us, we pretty much just say, "Allergies. Don't like it? Tough." If they don't believe us, go dig through records, if it's that important.

I thought medical companies gave meds to doctor's offices to distribute to patients to try, or maybe low income patients? I didn't realize they were for the doctor's family & personal use.

I rarely have been given a sample from a drs office. Now I know why..;) Just kidding.

While I know it is not fair to the law abiding citizens, as the wife of a F/T Firefighter/EMT and P/T Police Officer I am thankful for the new laws, as it has cut down tremendously in our area on the amount of meth labs (which are extremely explosive and dangerous to our first responders)

No, because actually if you really need it you can get a prescription from your doctor for a bottle of 100 generic Sudafed. Or at least you can in our state. I didn't come up with the law.... I just am required to enforce it. Lots of laws cause inconvenience for many - this more than likely will not end the drug problem, but I for one am glad they are doing something!!!

Seems to me that the meth crackdown is only seen in a few places, and not on a national whole. Wouldn't we be after it as a national whole, rather than a few? All over little?

It's inconvienient to some, but IMO it's not a big deal. I know my dad depends on Clairitin D for his allergies, so when he needs some, he goes to Costco with my mom and they both get a box! If they need more, one of them stops at CVS or someting. Done!

I've never seen or heard of anyone getting a prescription to Sudafed in our state, at least, nor would I see the point. Mostly because prescriptions are already costly, and why should I have to pay an extended amount for something that really doesn't need that price tag attached to it? Why should I have to pay a ridiculous amount for something like Sudafed b/c of a few idiots creating meth with it? That's like saying to a child she can't buy a jump rope without a parent because one or two faithful twits choked someone with it at some point in history. Not something I agree with. Sure, I follow it, but I don't agree with it.

You're required to enforce it? Are you a cop, or something? (Not sarcastic, question only.)
