I am considering a short trip over Labor Day to WDW. Is it worth buying the DDP if i am a strict vegetarian? I really don;t want to eat pasta and cheese for all my meals are there good options out there. I hope to stay att Animal Kingdom since I like animals :goodvibes Is the quick service plan a better choice rather than regular plan? I'll be on my own so table service might be weird for me. Any suggestions?

I think being vegetarian or not is sort of irrelevant here--assuming you're going to eat on property either way, at least. The main question is really do you want to do a lot of table service or not? If you don't want to average 1 TS per day, don't get the regular DDP.

Of course, vegetarian meals tend to be slightly less expensive especially at TS places, so it's somewhat less likely that you'd really save money by being on the dining plan, but you might if you're a big eater and like desserts a lot. I'd suggest looking at a website that shows prices like WDWInfo (The DIS' host site) and doing the math for how much you'd probably spend per meal, if by "worth it" you meant from a price perspective.

Nearly every Disney restaurant, TS or QS, has 1 or 2 vegetarian options, and they're relatively varied. I've had excellent vegetarian dishes at all 4 restaurants at Animal Kingdom Lodge (Mara QS, Boma buffet, Jiko signature, Sanaa at Kidani Village). The falafel at Mara is particularly awesome.

I'm a vegetarian (not vegan) and do the quick service plan. I am usually able to find something to eat at most places, but it does take some planning so I'm eating more than just vegie burgers.

At Animal Kingdom their food choices suck in my opinion and they have moousse for desert everywhere which has gelatin. So for dessert I could get the kids cookie or fruit choice. Plus Flame Tree only has a fruit platter for the entree choice, that's not a meal in my opinon and Yak & Yeti has nothing, so besides Pizzafari we ate back at POP where they have lots of veg options.

EPCOt is better, I got awesome food at Norway, France, and Mexico.

Magic Kingdom is good too, Main St. Bakery has a cheese/tomato sandwich. Golden Oak has a veggie flatbread that I thought was gross, but Pecos has veggie burgers. Columbia has the lighthosue which is good.

Studios isn't as bad as some people say, Starring rolls has veggie sushi and awesome desserts, backlot has a veggie sandwich.

I prefer quick serve so the quick serve plan is good for me. If you do the one with the table service included you can find something at most table services places and if they don't have something on the menu they can usually make something else for you.

I ate at Mara a year ago and got a falfala (sp) pita which was good.

thanks for the insight. I'm hoping to find some good salads as well since I don't want just starches for meals. I read somewhere that some places will allow fruit cup or water in place of desserts which sounds good to me. I'm glad you liked Mara. I thought their menu had potential. Plus I'm probably going to stay at AKL so it'll be close. What did you get with snack credits?

If you do the regular dining plan, 'Ohana has an awesome 5-course vegetarian meal! It was absolutely delicious & really filling!

For snacks I got juice bars or they also have lemonaid slushes. Smoothies are available too for snack credits at the place by Rockin and I think there's a place in tomorrowland with them. I got a mickey icecream once and the white chocolate elephant cupcake at kusafari in AK

I also got the cinnamon glazed almonds in the carts. At the end we had a handful of snack credits left ( I think 15) over we used on the Minnie bake shop cookies. They are good and ate a few the last few days and froze the rest for treats later in the year. We also got fudge and cashew/pecan clusters from main st. bakery. for breakfast we would use snack credits to on muffins or danishes. you can also get fruit, like grape bowls or in the parks they have pineapple.

At Port Orleans Riverside they have a make your own salad, that was really good. There are places that have salads in the parks like the Land. Flame tree has a salad you can get without chicken, problem for me is it doesn't have any protein in it, which I like so it sticks with me longer.

What did you get with snack credits?

Almost every CS restaurant has salad as an entree. Mostly they are chicken salads but they will all do a vegetarian version. I love salad and have no problem eating one for both meals but chicken once is enough for me so I just ask for a vegetarian salad. If you are paying OOP they apparently knock about $2 off the price for going veg, but with DDP it makes no difference. If you lose the meat on a salad at a place with a good fixins bar, you can always add some more crunch to it. :thumbsup2

I got loads of fruit cups, yogurts and yogurt parfaits for breakfast as snacks. Food courts at the resorts usually have a better selection than the places in the parks for this kind of thing.

WOW this post made me drool

Thanks I'm feeling better now. I was worried it would be all flatbreads and pizza for food. The Quick Srvice sounds like a good option for me.

Keep in mind...this doesn't happen for everyone. It really depends which chef is working. We have been there twice (Aug and Nov '09) - first time was Chef Steven and the second time was a female chef (Julie maybe?) Neither time did I receive a "5-course vegetarian meal". I got the standard vegetarian option they offer, which is tofu with vegetables and rice in a sweet and sour sauce. Chef TJ is the only one who really goes all out for vegetarians and vegans.

I have decided to get the quick service plan for my trip :goodvibes

are there any threads or links telling/showing veg options and reviews for counter service.

Thanks everyone!!
