Vegetarians?

You're assuming that vegetarians have a lack of protein...which isn't true.

Once again, that's a common misconception throughout the public. Vegetarians who do their lifestyle correctly do get adequate protein.

You have a bad habit of misreading my post.

I said there's an assumption they can't be atheltes. I never said I personally thought they can't be.

BTW, all this talk of veggie food made me crave some Boca burgers so I bought them at Wal-Mart today, lol.

No, not misreading posts - just taking things in a different light. I wasn't misreading here, I'm asking you why people assume they can't be athletes? I've never heard that before, it wouldn't even cross my mind that a veggie couldn't be an athlete.

Hm, I managed. I'm cutting off one meat at a time according to how much I like that item, so it's like...

Beef
Pork
Fish
Turkey
Chicken

So, I just got a big salad that had chicken in it, but I only ate one or two peices of the chicken. It also had black beans and cheese, so I think I got enough protein?

Has anyone tried the protein-plus special K? I love SK, and I saw this in the store (less calories too) but I was wondering if it would taste any good?

Try next time to word it better the next time then. This isn't the first time you've quoted me like that and it made it seem like you didn't read my post. And there's an assumption that because a lot of vegetarians do not do it correctly and have little protein consumption, then they'd be much physically weaker. I know people that think a vegetarian is just someone who eats salads at every meal.

You should be more worried about getting adequate protein throughout the day. If you don't get enough at one meal, then simply increase at the next.

And SK protein-plus taste just like the regular stuff to me.

Okay, thanks.

Awesome, well then I will buy that. I'm not much for eggs in the morning, so I need a good way to get protein in that early.

No I'm not.
That's how most people think.
I was a vegetarian for around four months this year, and was a vegetarian in spurts all throughout elementary school.

Dude, chill the heck out. Obviously it was worded fine because other posters understood what I meant.
And thank you.

i think everyone in this thread needs to put on their big boy and big girl pants and get over themselves. fighting on a thread about vegeterians? honestly?:confused3

fighting?

Jenny, I hope everything's going alright. The thing that scares me about totally cutting out meat, is that when you start eating it again it wreaks havoc on your digestive system. I do like your idea of "weaning" yourself off meat, a lot of people don't do that and it's probably why they don't stay vegetarians for long. I'm looking forward to seeing how that plays out. I won't go veggie so I'll live vicariously through you. ;)

I agree, I don't see any fighting and I have my big girl pants on thank you!

Anyways Jenny, weaning yourself off meat is a good idea if thats what works for you.
But I went cold tofu with meat and it's had staying power with me, so it can work both ways. Just depends on what is best for you!

My digestive system is working dandy.
My iron level is better than most non-vegetarians.
I made the decision to be a vegetarian when I was in 3rd grade.
I tried being vegan for a month. I was still quite healthy.

I believe vegetarianism is the way we're supposed to be. I don't think that animals are on this earth because we're supposed to eat them.

Jenny, if you're still looking for recommendations, there's this one brand of pasta that's really good and has a lot of nutrients in it, it's got a purple box and the name is something like "Smart____" or something, sorry I have to go check my pantry. Soy milk = my life. Many brands, especially Morning Star, have a ton of protein. Oh! and there are these really delicious lunch meat type deals, one time I sat down and ate a whole pack. It contained my day's worth of fiber and protein and there was very little fat/bad stuff in it.
PM me if you would like to know more brands, those are just the ones I could think of right now. (:

Thanks! I'm going to try to this, since it's also helping wean my parents into it.

It seems just saying 'I want to be a vegetarian' has no sticking power. OTOH, telling them 'I don't eat cow anymore' had more of an impact. Now my mom even helped me find items on the menu last night that didn't have beef. So, I'm hoping this approach will help.

Yeah, I've heard of the lunch meat stuff, do you know the brand name? It's really really hard to find a lot of the brands I'm looking for since we don't have a Whole Foods or Trader Joes around. It's just like Walmart and Target, lol.

It's just her opinion, John.

Ahh, I had a spicy black bean burger for lunch today. Wow, it was amazinggg! I think I'm buying some of those grillers, or maybe the vegan ones next. I hope they're as good! I also think I'm going to try some Boca, since John here is raving about them.

you can headdesk until you get a concussion, but she's partly right. partly.

its been proven that cows, for example, have only been domesticated for (in the grand scheme of things) a few years. they've not been domesticated long enough that their bodies have changed quite to the point that our bodies need them to. that is why such a large population (in the grand scheme of things) are allergic to milk. we're just not *ready* to use cows in that way yet.

There are many things our bodies haven't completely adapted to yet. I read that it takes over 2,000 years for a human population to completely adapt to a dramatic change in their diet. We haven't be growing greens, corn, ect. for that long. I know you already know this, but for those who don't, when humans were first on this Earth we had two things we primarily ate; animals and seasonal berries.

BTW, already have had two concussions in the past two years. Those things mess you up.

NOM NOM NOM

I ate a couple today, lol. Just be warned, they make you feel like you're eating some sliders from White Castle about 15 minutes after you eat them.

I just learned about this stuff this past semester at my college.
Anyways from what I understood we ate a lot of foraged plants, not just seasonal berries. We only began to DOMESTICATE these things recently. We did not just eat seasonal berries and meat, we ate a form of corn (not domesticated corn) and other familiar foods that we have since domesticated.
