Vegetarians?

Awesome! Thank you, you've been very helpful.

Do you have a favourite recipe?

I love talking to other vegs/possible vegs/ anyone interested
and I have a recipe book full of stuff!
I like these pancakes they have in there I think they're called healthy pancakes.
I love soy milk shakes :)
Roasted red potatoes are one of my favorites (with tons of seasoning)
Spaghetti with oil and garlic!
I also make my own pizza which is yummy
There's tons, if there's something specific you want to make let me know
This book has tons of stuff I haven't tried yet.
I'm not the biggest fan of beans and mushrooms...I must be the only veggie who doesn't love that stuff!

Morning Star is the best brand.
I definitely recommend their sausages.
They're delicious. I could eat them all day.
There's a red brand of burgers, I think Boca? I'm not sure.

If going all out is what you want, I greatly recommend Silk, soy milk. It's got chocolate, vanilla, mocha and plain soy milk.
We always have a thing of Very Vanilla Silk and Lite Chocolate Silk in our fridge. (:

I've never tried the sausages, so I might have to!
And I love soy milk, and Silk is the brand I get, it's really great!

Alright there's still one thing I'm missing about vegetarian.. Homosapiens are omnivores. Hunting and killing animals is part of nature. If we don't do it, at some point another animal is going to kill it. I'm sure the whole torture thing will come into a reply, but those animals are going to suffer through torture when they're being killed in the wild. Maybe it's me, but I just see no point to being a vegetarian. It's a false hope of trying to have an animal not killed, in my opinion. As always.. open to opinions.

I love the term inhumanely. Who ever decided how humans should kill other animals? And why would it be extremely difficult to hunt, kill, and cook our own meat? Before we developed enough to the point where we could rely on others to get our food, that's exactly what we did.

And now where you're wrong.. Our body's are not made at all to be herbivores. There are some things that are essential to a human's diet. Protein, fat, and vitamins and minerals. Do you see carbs in there? Not at all. We're made to live off of meat. Go back to the Paleolithic times. They only ate meat and some seasonal berries. It takes over 2000 years for humans to completely adapt to a major change. We've not yet adapted to having carbs and glucose as a main fuel source. That's why if you go on a low-carb diet you'll be completely healthy. But, just try to cut out either fat or protein out of your diet completely. Believe it or not, and I can post peer-reviewed studies, but our body would rather run on ketones than it would glucose.

Also, we live and we die. Those animals are going to die eventually and the vast majority of them will be consumed by other animals.

And I only buy natural meat. BTW, you realize the vast majority of food that's packaged by a company has preservatives in it?

I have to agree, but that's just me. IDC if you're veg or not, but it's not for me.

Good luck Jenny!

Okay, I got lots of stuff at the store today. I bought the black bean burgers and chik'n nuggets from MSF. And of course lots of veggies (which I already eat), fruits, beans, nuts, etc.

I'm going to start by cutting meat to only one meal a day, then a couple times a week, etc. Slowly. I don't want to go cold turkey (lol) as I'm not sure if that would work for me.

Your shopping list sounds great Jenny.
And yeah going 'cold tofu' doesn't work for anyone. But once my mind is up I can't imagine eating meat so I do it over night.
But gradually stopping is a good way to do it as well.
So good luck :)

Forgot to post this.. But, there are vegetarian athletes. Prince Fielder anyone?

Thought I'd post that since I've come to find there's an automatic assumption that vegetarians can't be athletes.

As I said...I was raised vegitarian, and for 17 years as far as I know I've been just spiffy health wise! :thumbsup2 Haha

Eating wise, I've enjoyed trying diffrent organic products that are out these days at places like Whole Foods, or I love the Morning Star products (which are at practically every grocery store)! It's really just about getting your nutrients and supliments in. My doctor had my sister taking one a days...those chocolate chewable vitamins, for when she ate meat for a period of time, and than vegitarian again. :teacher: So if you're concerned about that, I'd just as your doctor at your next checkup...no biggie!

As far as breaking habits/cravings I wish I could help, but I've never eaten meat :goodvibes so unfortunatly I cannot help you there. If you like I could give you some good meals or veg cook books I own& enjoy myself! Anything to help someone interested in becoming a vegitarian...it's great!!

Nope, I could never do it! I hate tofu, and I would miss meat. In fact a pork tenderloin has let fat than a boneless, skinless chicken breast.

I love Morningstar products. The veggie burgers taste almost like the real thing. And their hot dogs taste even better than real hot dogs! (to me anyway)

I could never be vegan because I love dairy products too much but going vegetarian has been good for me. There are times I smell meat and miss it but overall it's been good and worth it.

I'm not a full-fledged vegitarian, but it's a choice that I've been contemplating to make for the past 3ish years or so. Since then, I've cut red meat & most pork products out of my diet, as well as some types of sea food. There are still some type of meats I can't bear to let go of just yet. I think my biggest problem is that I'm a really picky eater, even when it comes to fruits, veggies, and nuts. It's a really slow transition.

Yeah, I'm taking it slow, too.

There are a few things I'm going to miss, definitely.

I'm going out to dinner tonight, what do you guys usually do when you're in this situation?

If I find something that has meat in it I ask if I can have it without the meat and they usually have no problem doing it. If for some reason they can't and I really really want it I will pick it out and give it to whoever wants it.

Dinners out can be a little difficult but there's always at least one veggie friendly item on the menu. Plus most places are really accommodating. Let's say there's a pasta dish with chicken, and you don't want the chicken, just tell the waiter and they'll just bring you a veg friendly version.
Plus you can always create your own dish using side orders and salads. They're usually really cool with that stuff, and want you to have a good meal so they don't give you a hard time.
But I usually don't have any trouble finding a veg item, or just asking for no meat on the dish.
And a random tip. If you get to pick where you're going, pick somewhere Asian. They have tons of veg stuff, and lots of tofu and all that.

Why wouldn't they be able to be athletes?

You have a bad habit of misreading my post.

I said there's an assumption they can't be atheltes. I never said I personally thought they can't be.

BTW, all this talk of veggie food made me crave some Boca burgers so I bought them at Wal-Mart today, lol.
