Sorry if you all think this would have been better posted on the restaurant board but I thought it would be better on here as I would get opinions from POFQ guests!
Basically my question is-do they not have vegetarians in Louisiana? :o I have been looking at the latest menus on the PortOrleans.org website and there seems to be very little choice for vegetarians-no veggie burgers, no Build your own salad anymore (and that was something I loved on previous visits) all the main meals seem to revolve around meat and theres very little on the breakfast menu that doesn't include bacon, sausage or ham!
Don't get me wrong I do eat some meat and have no problem with others eating meat but its nice to be able to go meatless a couple of times on vacation and there doesn't seem to be a lot of choice anymore. I think the menu actually seems to have been stripped right down since the refurb-have any regulars noticed the same?
And they have stopped doing the bean salad as a side:sad2:-I loved that so much my DH would order one with his meal just to give it to me (now that is love!)

Not specific to POFQ, but I'm used to not having meatless breakfast options available, especially at quick service places. It's easy to adjust meals where it just comes with a side of bacon or sausage -- I just ask for potatoes instead and I'm all set.

Lunch/dinner is often more difficult for me, and you're right that POFQ looks especially tricky. I've only eaten there once (when we stopped to check it out before heading to Disney Springs, so I had beignets before we ate at DS). We weren't there for a meal, but I do remember thinking if we stay there, I should try not to be too hungry at the resort.

As I said I do eat some meat (and I love your bacon and sausages, which are different to British equivalents) but there does come a point on my holiday when I would be quite happy with a cheese salad sandwich! I did wonder if I could make a breakfast up from 3 sides, but I'm not sure "Breakfast potatoes, potato casserole and tater tots" is a particularly balanced meal...Although it probably would be delicious! :teeth:
Thanks for your input though, its nice to see what other people think of the menus and not be judged for being "faddy" :rolleyes1

I'm mainly vegan at home. I rarely eat meat. However when we stayed their I found I ended up eating more meat, eggs than I would have preferred. There were not a lot of options for non meat eaters. For breakfast they do have oatmeal and you could request the shrimp and grits sans shrimp and ham. Their are also fruit and danishes.

I basically eat oatmeal, fruit and some potato for breakfast in QS at WDW. I add cinnamon and raisins to the oatmeal and top with vanilla soy milk. Yum!

Not a lot of vegan options at POFQ, for sure.

We did walk over to eat at POR for dinner one night at Boatwright's and the CM's were very helpful in putting together a nice vegan meal for me. It was delicious, but not on the menu. They changed some things up for me, and were very generous with serving size!
When staying at POFQ, we mostly eat elsewhere like in the theme parks or DS.

I'm currently at the Boardwalk for two more nights, but I started my trip with two nights at POFQ. It was my first time staying there and I loved everything about the resort - except for the lack of vegetarian options. I was exhausted by the end of my first day (woke up for my flight at 4am and hit both DS and Epcot after I arrived) and I was ready to call it a night by 6pm. I've always stayed at Pop and never had an issue finding vegetarian options at their food court, so I didn't even think to look at the FQ menu ahead of time. I was disappointed to see the actual menu, so I headed back to my room to order the underwhelming room service pizza. And then it took two hours to arrive! The delivery guy was apologetic and gave me two free Mickey Rice Krispy treats, so that was nice. But I would have eaten hours earlier if the QS menu wasn't so limited. The next night, I had an ADR at Boatwight's, but I canceled it when I double checked the menu and saw that the Vegetarian Jambalaya was no longer listed. Sigh. I ended up eating at DS instead.

Not with all the great meat we can get there. Seafood, gator, fowl, beef and then put it all together into sausage or jambalaya or etouffee. Or top it with a poached egg. Even the vegetables are sauteed in animal fat or butter.

Stooooop - you are making me so hungry!

I eat horrible at Disney. Junk junk junk...they know I am on vacation. But you can get what you want if POFQ doesn't have anything just take the boat to DS. A billion places to eat there.

Which is the same as saying "no, they don't have much." The question was do they have options at POFQ, not anywhere on property.

There are a (very) few items you can have altered to fit a vegetarian diet at POFQ, and almost none to fit a vegan diet. We don't stay there if my vegan daughter is with us because we don't always want to go elsewhere to eat and there's nothing she can eat there.

POFQ doesn't have a TS restaurant. So you are stuck with QS. The deluxe resorts all have a good variety of restaurants where you can discuss your dietary needs better maybe try another resort.

But Boatwrights is right next door at Riverside. When you look at all the menus of the dining facilities at POR and POFQ, everything is non-vegetarian. And it looks like it would be hard to make any of them vegetarian. CS would be difficult, TS at Boatwrights (only open for dinner) might be possible.

Is there a reason you didn't just order the pizza at Sassagoula? Or one of the salads but without meat?

Is the menu on the disney site not up-to-date?

Because I see quite a few meatless options: You could get a beans and rice bowl without the meat, the sassagoula power salad (w/o meat), the pizza, the create your own pasta.

I get eating vegan would be way tougher, but just having a few meatless meals shouldn't be that difficult.

From what I recall even with the old menu at POFQ, you generally had to wait in line and talk to the people as you order. They had things in the back they could make that weren't on the menu. Not sure if it's still the same, but that's how it was last time I was there.
