Hello,
I know that at most places there will be on option on the menu, but I was under the impression that at family style places (specifically Ohana and the Hoop de doo) you needed to let them know. I called the dining line and was told just to let them know when I get there. Can anyone verify that this is how it works now?

Thanks !

Yes, that's true. The chefs at these restaurants are very accommodating. Just tell them when you check in for your reservation. At Ohana they are known for a really good vegetarian option.

Hi! We are DVC members and travel there often. I am vegetarian but my DH is not. I never call ahead or note it on the reservation. It is really not needed.

At O'Hana's any chef can make the vegetarian option just tell them at the podium and your server that you'd like to request that. HOWEVER, if Chef TJ is working you will have an adventure. He was the Chef at Boma's at one time. He provides vegetarian meals WAY above and beyond the "usual" vegetarian option. He typically works Monday-Saturday. However, he was off on our last trip during these days. (He gave us this schedule on one of our recent trips.) So, I'd ask at check-in if he is working. Even if you get the "usual" it is good! I like the salad they offer as an appitizer as well as the Hawaiian bread. If you book your meal an hour and a half or so before fireworks you can go out on the beach and watch the fireworks and the water parade.

Le Cellier allowed me to out together a meal using just sides on our last trip and it was one of my best meals on that trip. (They do offer a vegetarian option but I have had it many times and wanted something new.)

Nine Dragons had a wonderful meal I enjoyed recently.

Sanaa is wonderful and if possible come for a noon reservation to watch the opening ceremony and you might can score a savanna view table.

The Wave at the Contemporary is awesome! A must try!

Kouzzina is at the Boardwalk and is a new twist with Greek dishes.

Outside Disney I DO NOT eat at a buffet. However, two in WDW are GREAT for vegetarians. I highly recommend Boma (Animal Kingdom Lodge) and Crystal Palace (Magic Kingdom).

For Counter Service you will want to try Sunshine Seasons in the Land at EPCOT, Wolf Gang Puck Express in DTD, and Earl of Sandwich in DTD. I also love the Tangierine Cafe' in EPCOT.

For places like Hoop de Doo, I usually call the restaurant directly - they have always given me options over the phone as to what I'd like. I imagine you wouldn't have trouble waiting until you checked in, but I like knowing that it's taken care of in advance.

It's true that they can accommodate you if you tell them when you get there, and I too used the disney dietary hot line - some places worked out better than others. Some restaurants we were a bit disappointed in, and others did a really good job.
If you want to have a better experience, try giving them a call ahead. It isn't guaranteed that they'll give you something different, but they'll at least have advanced notice.

What I have done in the past if I wasn't all that thrilled about the vegetarian menu option was to call the restaurant itself 72 hours prior to my ADR and ask to speak to a chef. I would explain the situation to them and most of the time they are really helpful and accommodating to your needs/wants.

'Ohana has always been a great restaurant for me to dine at. I generally do not even call ahead, but I do note on ALL our ADR's that we have 1 vegetarian in our party. Normally, your server will ask who it is and if you have any allergies when you are seated. Also I have had a chef come out and speak to me numerous times. And at buffets the chef can point out to you what you can or cannot eat.

One of the best experiences I have had was this past trip in February at Biergarten. A chef (I wish I could remember his name!) came to our table, walked me through the buffet and then made me two items especially for me. One was a mushroom cream sauce for the spatzel and another was similar to stewed tomatoes - both were awesome!

Hope you have a great trip!

do youmind me asking were you on the Dining Plan? wondering esp for when you were at LeCellier as my DM will be traveling with us and is a vegetarian but my DH is not and LOVES LeCellier...thanks (sorry for hijacking this thread)

Yes, we were. My DH and DS18 are NOT vegetarian. My DD14 and I are. We typically use the DDP and have had no issues. I keep reciepts and see what we'd spend without it and we always come out a few hundred ahead but that is another thread.
