Vegan/Vegetarian Restaurant/Dining Help Thread

I'd also like to suggest Kouzzina - we had an excellent vegan meal there on an earlier trip. We just told the chef we were vegan and liked lots of veggies and he surprised us. It was a selection of small dishes and everything was delicious.

TP

FYI Kouzzina's is closing this fall :-(

OldSchoolReasons, thank you for sharing that list!! That is great that WDW provided that to you. One of the reasons I am not a vegan is because I find it hard for restaurants to be accommodating for vegans. But WDW is quite accommodating, it looks like.

Btw, for anyone who is interested, Emily from BabyCakes NYC posted a review (it's a few years old) when she ate at the Chef's Table at V&A's. She was able to get a completely vegan meal, and it sounds awesome. Now how do I save up that money, that's the question.....:)

Does anyone know if these veggie burgers & buns are also vegan?

PECO'S BILL
Vegetable Burger - with choice of corn on the cob, apple slices, sweet potato fries or French fries $7.99

COSMIC RAY'S
Vegetable Burger - served with apple slices or french fries or cucumber salad
$8.59

Here are my comments about these two restaurants from a few pages back:

Pecos Bill: We tried to eat here. Well, my kids ate here. The woman at the register was a supervisor, and after I spoke with a chef she apologized for not really being allergy-vegan-gluten-free friendly. She said we should try Columbia House. I can't really blame them, I mean, the woman I spoke with was really nice and apologized for what happened. Not her fault that the chef couldn't accommodate me. We actually ended up at Cosmic Ray's, which was an awesome choice. It wasn't busy (which makes a big difference) so the cashier walked me through the whole binder and pointed out everything I could eat. I know she was only able to do that because there was literally no one else waiting in that line (the few people who came in just went to other open registers). I was able to eat fries made in their allergy fryer, a veggie sandwich with balsamic on a GF bun. They have 2 GF buns, one has egg in it and one doesn't. They really can accommodate special needs there. My food was served on a green tray, marking it as an allergy, so there would be no confusion (Hello Epcot, can you not do this too??).

I don't know about the veggie burger, because those usually have gluten and I can't eat them.

Anyone know if Chef TJ is still working breakfast at 1900 PF (& if so, what days?)? We made an ADR for early May in the hopes of having him cook for us, but if his schedule has since changed I would cancel.

Hi, sorry if this has been asked before but is the potato and leek soup at BOG made with veggie broth?

Also, I am planning to note being veg on an ADR for Ohana breakfast. Do I just ask them if they can make the tofu veggie scramble when I arrive or do they need to know this in advance?

Many thanks.

Also, does anyone know if any of the desserts at Hollywood Brown Derby are veggie and egg free?

Has anyone had any luck getting a vegetarian dinner at pofq sassagoula float works?
Also are the cupcakes at bog gelatin free? Their desserts seems to be all cupcakes.

Counting down to 14th May!

Hi all, one more question if anyone has the answer - am trying to firm up counter service at MK.
Does anyone know if the veggie burrito at Tortuga Tavern or the veggie burgers at Peco Bill or Cosmic Ray are egg free please?
Many thanks.

The potato leek soup and french onion soups at Be Our Guest are totally vegetarian.

The FO isn't dairy free because of the cheese and I bet the PL isn't, either, but I don't know about eggs. Can't quite imagine how they would incorporate eggs into those soups, though. (mentioning eggs b/c of your other questions)

Did you see the link above the recent questions, from this post?

Here's a list of all of the various menus from Disney - these are great! :)

Of course the info is from last year, so ALWAYS make sure when you're at a restaurant, but it's a place to start.

The menus there scroll (as do all QS menus, it seems) so it's easy to not see all the options. I've gotten a veggie burger (no knowledge about eggs...we eat eggs and dairy and I don't quiz people on cheese if I'm dining out) there and I would bet they have a cheese pizza as well as the pepperoni allears.net shows. But I'd rather walk over to POR's food court and get their pasta.

I trust no cupcake unless I can read the ingredients. And having eaten two cupcakes at WDW before checking ingredients and realizing the gelatin problem, I can tell you they are NOT worth it. Huge, sweet, and that's about it.

Not sure about gelatin the cupcakes at BOG but dairy may be the bigger issue. A number have cream cheese based icings. The gray stuff type icing tasted distinctly like off brand cool whip to me and I couldn't eat it---bleh (I'm not vegan) and even my kids who took nibbles thought it was slimy tasting. I believe this product was also used in the mousse fillings.

I've seen numerous posts where other guests say they've called ahead and spoken with someone at the restaurant or the chef to let them know about their dietary restrictions/allergies, and because of this, the chefs were better prepared with options like Gardein, Tofutti, Daiya, etc.

Has anyone done this? And if so, how do you get in touch with a restaurant directly?

Is this necessary at 'Ohana, do you think? I'm vegetarian, not vegan, and I'm not too worried about just winging it at most places. But 'Ohana is so meat focused, I'm wondering if I should call ahead. The only reason I haven't is that I've heard so many stories of the great meals they have pulled off for vegetarians. But maybe those people called ahead?

I was told the only places that require 24 hours notice for special diets were these: Disney's Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show, Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue, or Mickey’s Backyard BBQ and that was for vegan diets. I'm sure you'll be fine! I'd call ahead just to reassure yourself though if you're feeling concerned.

Thanks! I think I will just wing it... I'm not too worried. :)

Two visits at 'Ohana, I mentioned it at the check-in podium and was directed to "simply let your server know". . .so you should be fine!

I read in a thread oh' so long ago that they used to put some sort of floral marker on the table to indicate a vegetarian or vegan diner. Something like that would be nice to reinstate. . .simply cause the "meat skewer people" continually came up to me and offered their wares. . .at least until my hummus appetizer and entree showed up and they realized why I kept saying, "no thank you." Actually one of the servers later realized and came over all apologetic. . .but I assured him it was not that big of a deal. . .

yeah, with Ohana you dont note anything in advance anymore for vegetarian or vegan. If you do and the chef comes out she get mad and a little rude (I had chef Julie for this experience). They have a standard veg meal now and will bring out hummas and pita for apps. Vegans will get some fruit and toffuti dessert.

Have the chefs been able to accommodate vegans at Biergarten or Chefs de France?

Quick update for folks who might be interested: Chef TJ is moving from breakfast at 1900 PF to dinners. Had the pleasure of meeting him last week and he mentioned that this would be effective as of Sunday (yesterday).
