OK, let me explain that title. DS is allergic to milk and has a rare metabolic disorder that causes him to go into ketoacidosis when he consumes too much protein. Basically all animal proteins cause this result (surprisingly, he does OK with eggs). So, he eats a largely vegan diet.

We are planning to go to DL in July and DS will be 23 months. I am seeing plenty of fruit that he will be able to eat. We can share our steamed veggies if we eat TS. Is soy milk readily available or should we bring our own? When we eat out at home, we either go places with beans or we let him eat bread or pasta and veggies at the restaurant and supplement at home. However, I am not seeing many beans on the DL menu and I can't imagine how I could bring beans or eggs to the park. All of the toddler meals seem to involve cheese. :sad2: Does anyone have any ideas for good locations to find him food?

Well...I might be wrong but I'd be very surprised if a restaurant wouldn't have an egg on hand that they could scramble for you. Particularly any sit down place that serves breakfast.

You should definitely bring your own soy milk. It's not even available at all of the locations that serve lattes, and you won't find it at any counter service locations.

I know the beans at Rancho del Zocalo were vegan a few years ago, that may have changed. But you may want to look into whether or not the baby care center will store food if you bring it in the parks with you.

As far as I know from last year, I am pretty sure the beans at rancho del zocalo could be vegan because I did eat them and I am allergic to dairy and eggs....and I remember they were an option with the vegetarian platters there so I highly doubt there is any meat products in them.

But obviously, things change a lot with ingredients so I would definitely check with that. As for eggs, breakfast should be pretty easy. I'd imagine that there are a lot of places, even CS, where you can get plain eggs....but that one I am really not sure about because I haven't eaten eggs in about 7 years.

As for the soy milk, that will probably be hit or miss. I do know it is available at some places because I am allergic to soy as well and the only options for a dairy allergy that were ever available was soy milk. However, that's a pretty easy one to bring into the park since they do have shelf stable soy milk boxes.

Disneyland is pretty good with allergies. I will say that they are not as good as WDW in my opinion because of less space and less restaurants but I've been there 5 times since my list of allergies grew to the current list of 16 and I've always been able to find something safe to eat so hopefully you will have the same luck I've had.

If you haven't already done so, check out the Disneyland special diets page:

We've eaten MANY vegan and nut/peanut-free meals at DL. Both Mexican places have plenty of options, beans (vegan), and vegetables. Every single table service restaurant was able to make a variety of vegan dishes, either a (sometimes) modified menu item or whatever we fancied that day: pasta marinara, roasted vegetables, beans on toast, soup, etc.

Fresh fruits and vegetables are widely available in the parks from kiosks. All of the quick service places and kiosks have ingredient lists you can check. We were even able to get special cookies from the bakery that were safe (and prepackaged).

If you have any questions, be sure to call the Special Diets team and they will be able to answer any of your questions.

Have a magical holiday!

the eggs can be hit or miss, as a lot are from a premix that includes milk

I have a dairy allergy. I have had no problems getting eggs at TS and food courts. Just explain and they do them separate. Soy milk is hit or miss so bring some to take to the parks. Food courts at hotels seem to have it but you may have to ask.

There are no food courts at the DLR hotels. The issue I think OP will run into is that very few locations in the parks offer breakfast, and when they do the selection is limited. If you make a reservation for a character meal or table service and note the restriction it should be fine, but walking up to a counter service location at DLR and asking for a vegan toddler meal is probably going to be tricky.

Thanks for the help! I would not have thought about the eggs coming from a pre-mix containing dairy. We are still really new to the allergy world. ;)

I will make sure to bring my own soy milk and check out the special diets website!

We will have a car, so I will make a grocery run before arriving at our hotel. We are planning a total of 4 days in DLR.

My only suggestion would be to put his meals in a Tupperware, beans, veggies, etc. You can keep them in a lunchbox in your stroller and warm them in the child care center. Looks like you have lots of options though!
