VDH Questions for Purchasing

Also I did not look at price sheets again but did you say VDH is $3000 cheaper? If so thats $20 per point! Thats a big number. Even though VDH is said to loose more value due to restrictions when sold, right away you are $20 per point ahead of the game.
Yes! And I wouldnt be surprised to see it sell for around the same as Poly. Its the Disneyland Hotel after all. But ofc i will keep this contract forever 🥰

This doesn’t totally answer your question, but here’s my take: we stayed at VDH last summer and loved it. The vibe, the water slide, the CMs…it just felt special. We left that trip knowing we’d buy a west coast contract.

Then checkout happened… and paying for the ToT hurt a lot. 🤣 So when a guide found us a small direct VGC contract, I said yes.

Don’t get me wrong…we really enjoy VGC. But in hindsight, I didn’t buy where we actually want to stay the most, and I do regret that a bit. I wouldn’t be shocked if a small VDH contract shows up in our future for split stays.

All this is to say If I were you, I’d check 7-month availability at POLY for when you usually travel. If you can generally snag something there, I’d go VDH.
This is actually really helpful. I see us going to Poly maybe 1x every 2-3 years because of all the choices in FL.

I see us going to VDH multiples times a year. I asked the kids in our party what hotel they preferred out of vgc and vdh and they all said vdh. I would love staying at Poly too, but theres a lot of hotels I like in FL as well that id love staying in!

So, I own Polynesian, VDH and VGC. VDH is the only one that I wish I had more points at. I obviously love those three resorts . Originally, I thought I would always wait-list VGC when I had VDH booked, but I don't feel that way anymore.

If you're local and plan to visit Disneyland often, I 100% would recommend VDH. If you truly are concerned about future resale value, I think Poly is better because the points aren't restricted. I'm at an age where I need to focus on what's best for me and not what's best for someone else to sell it later. The TOT always sucks! But, taxes and ridiculously high parking rates are standard for any good resort or hotel in the state. We get free parking and we OWN a vacation home at Disneyland. I think that's worth more than the dumb Anaheim tax.

I agreed until this point.

A few reasons I felt more comfortable with VDH over PIT (and there is even another reason I am not going to mention as it will invoke trolls):

-VDH has more usable seasons. Winter may get more expensive at PIT, but I don’t want to go at any other season. I can go to California in the summer and enjoy though.

-If only buying 150 points, the actual total difference in dues isn’t some huge annual number. Yes, it’s higher, but not outrageous. I would say if buying 300+, look more closely at this.

-Climate change risks are real in both places but I suspect they are riskier in Florida.

-There are way more options to stay in Florida with your DVC points than in California. I will probably be able to find a spot in Florida when I want to go. The reverse isn’t always true with Florida points in California.
All very good points and well taken! Maybe your points could get someone to the point of, well, maybe if you're going to use your VDH points at VDH at least some of the time and we're just talking about 150 points or so, there is still a pretty good argument they can be used as a good SAP+ option. I think that is very fair and reasonable.

And, of course, California weather is SOOOO much better than Florida. But, alas, I'm only about a 2.5 hour flight to FL, and 6 hours to CA (assuming no connection). Sigh . . .

All very valid points!

I need to stop focusing on the resale value because its pointless. And like @Sprinkles&Sprints said I could regret not buying something I like and especially not for issues that dont exist yet and may never exist!

Imagine owning at Walts original park. For a Disney fan, that is truly special. Tax the sh*t out of me, California. Im used to it! 🤣🤣

Every time I hesitate to post something (theyre probably going to think im insane, I just signed poly and now im asking about vdh 🤣🤣) I get so many different viewpoints and they all help me.

I thought i would get taken to the cleaners for this and it seems like everyone agrees it makes sense and now I see it more than ever!

So as of now dues on 150 points is $332 more per year. Thats 9 years of dues to cover the 3,000 savings. (assumption of dues being the same) You could also factor in the closing costs savings, Id have to double check but im guessing its around 2 years worth of extra dues at VDH.

Hopefully I didnt lose you
So 11 years before pit is a better deal and I sell 🤔 Kidding, kidding! I should book that treasure cruise and get $500 more off! Disney math 😅

On the dues and SAP+ points, I will just note that VDH's dues increases have been on the higher side compared to PVB. The 2025 to 2026 increase was 7.2%, and the compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) since VDH opened is 5.2%. OTOH, PVB had a 5.14% increase this past year and has had a CAGR of 3.1%.

Of course, no one knows whether those trends will continue but, if they do, the gap between the dues at both resorts will increase. That's why I'd personally pick PVB over VDH for SAP+, but the more you plan to actually use your points at VDH, the more VDH will win out.
