VDH Opening

I understand why it is a good value for renting points out at VDH and it’s nice to have the renters pay for tax and parking. But, if a lot of owners are renting points out at the same time, there are lots of rooms to fill at VDH. Is there such a demand from renters? Especially with many good neighbor hotels being cheaper and closers, are there that many people that want to stay in the Disney bubble? Does anyone know how full is the Disneyland hotel on average?

The Disneyland Hotel usually sells out or very close to it. The Grand Californian costs even more and it sells out or close to it as well.

Flights from Hawaii to SNA direct is very hard to find and very expensive. I hate the LAX to Anaheim schlep but it always end up being cheaper and better arrival/departure times. Getting into LAX though, NOT flying into TBIT makes it 1000% more convenient
We'll be going LGB-HNL this year after our DL stay. Not staying onsite. Staying at the Element Anaheim with free breakfast. 15 minute walk to the front gates...

I really do miss those free breakfasts from the off site hotels. Don’t get me wrong. We love our VGC but those breakfasts at Craftsman’s adds up fast! And yeah, we like the LGB arrival option via Hawaiian Airlines but we really like the 6pm departure out of LAX

What's Clear? I've never heard of this.
Clear essentially skips the ID check line. You are ID’d by biometrics instead. For some reason my irises never work though.

At my home airport it is relatively worthless. It’s a lot more important at some others. In addition to LAX I’ve been happy to have it at SEA, MCO, and especially SFO where everyone seems to be elite/precheck.

My wife and I get it comped by virtue of the AmEx Plat plus the Delta status discount. If I had to pay market for it I probably wouldn’t given my current travel habits.

How close to check in do they typically sell out? I think if you willing to be on the dvc timeline or even a few months prior you should be ok unless you picky about room type. I’ve only ran into one time where DLH and GC (and PP) was completely sold out on a trip planned about a week out. It was very sad and I had to stay at a hotel across the street and saved both time and money 😜.

Within the context of the PP question, it gets close enough to selling out (or raising the price to where it is outrageously expensive) that I doubt VDH owners are going to have an issue ever renting out a confirmed reservation.

Legalese question re: VDH (and Riviera) resale restrictions. If DVC finds out that their direct sales are lagging, can they "change their mind" and remove these restrictions in the future? I'm not asking "will they?". I just wasn't sure if there was some contract that would prevent them, or if they could change that policy at their whim.

We don't fly much at all but we're considering applying for the pre-check before we make a trip out to MCO. For our home airport (Omaha) and SNA, the lines have never been too bad. But I think it might be worth it even if we only fly once a year.
MCO is the reason we got pre-check. The airport is organized much better than before but can still have long lines. The lines used to just be a maze of ropes with absolutely no rhyme or reason. Every time I don’t have to walk barefoot through an airport, pre-check is worth it.

Yes, the language says they can remove the restrictions in the future.

For those buying in and no precheck/Global entry -- United Chase credit card has good promo and TSApre reimbursement too. Well worth it since dropping $$ on Disney

Some more maybe-noob questions. We have VGC resale points (and at the moment I agree they seem to be a better value than VDH direct).
- Would I be able to apply VDH points to a VGC reservation? And would it be at 7 months?
- Would I be able to apply resale VGC points to a VDH reservation?

1) If they are direct VDH, you can use them to book any resort in the system if there is availability at 7-months.
2) I believe only if they were purchased before Jan 2019.

To extend off (1) for what I think @noisycricket was getting to: you wouldn't be able to modify a VGC reservation made with VGC points during the 11 - 7 month window and swap them out for VDH points at 7 months (thus freeing the VGC points).

You would have to cancel and rebook with your VDH points. This would be very risky as rooms don't always go back into inventory when you cancel.

I think we're going to eat breakfast in our room most days next time because you're right...Craftsman definitely added up fast! And honestly, it just takes a fair amount of time for us too. That's actually what we used to do off-site a well because we stayed at places with no free breakfast (or very little options) - Park Vue and Desert Inn.
