VDH Opening

I’m not sure why they need princess and the frog in multiple room categories. A ride, a restaurant, a retail store, and now multiple DVC room categories….

It was a cute movie, but I wouldn’t put it in the pantheon of Disney classics…

I would have rather seen more Sleeping Beauty.
I disagree and think that Princess and the frog is just as classic a story as sleeping beauty, it fits in perfectly in New Orleans square at Disneyland. It’s a newer Disney movie but the story is also an old fairytale. It’s one of my favorites and came out when my daughters were little. I still sing “Dig a little deeper”, but the way my 3 year old did who didn’t know the words would sing it and it will be forever “Bill-a-bill-a beep-a” in our house 🤣

I thought the theme of the whole hotel was going to be more like a retro Tomorrowland feel... but I guess the classic films & characters are the "retro" part of it, not the land.

I think by now Princess and the Frog is pretty well established in the fandom to stand alongside the older movies. I really love the movie, but having said that, I would probably request the sleeping beauty studio (was s favorite of mine growing up) and the Fantasia 1BR when staying at VDH. However, it's nice that there's variety!

As classic as a picture that Walt Disney himself worked on… really…. We have different ideas about classic Disney.

That's not the only definition one can have of a classic! The Renaissance movies I would think are classics by now. There's also the "classic story" angle

It’s just not what I personally am looking for from the original Disneyland Hotel. If I’m going to be forced to have IP everywhere, I want classic Walt Disney touched projects and would have preferred the Sleeping Beauty theming be extended to the 1 and 2 bedroom options.

I hope they let me request the Fantasia 1 and 2 bedrooms, as it was Walt’s favorite picture.

I’m glad that there seem to be many others that will be happy with the Princess and Frog rooms because there are sure going to be a lot of them.

I couldn't agree more. The frog prince is a classic story... The princess and the frog is not in the pantheon of sleeping beauty and fantasia. Neither are moana or frozen for that matter. All 3 have more than enough representation in the parks worldwide as it stands.

If they have to inject so much IP, i wish they could've themed it around the classic rides or lands over non-classic movies in the vein of the hotel itself.

Is that "timeshare math" because of Duo studios or what makes it different.? (im new)
The timeshare math is the marketing, like the SAVE 40% you see on the buses. The math doesn't work unless you're comparing something like a $1,000 Riviera rack rate. It will never work against $300 at Art of Animation.

These cash rates are going to be shocking.

Oh right.. yea, I'm always trying to figure out some sort of way to compare apples to apples, but they make it tough to do vs a regular hotel (realistic pricing) or other options outside of DVC.

This thing still doesn't have a name? It's just Villas at DL Hotel? Lame.

Not a fan of the themed rooms... May be time to pivot to another VGC contract. Couldn't we have just stuck to mild sleeping beauty with a focus on the castle? Or at worst stop at fantasia? Why did they feel the need to include Tiana at every level and for every tower studio to be jungle book? And the grand villa with 3 (or more??) IPs?

My excitement for this project died in a hurry and I think they've lost my family as buyers on it.

Are you just not a fan of those movies specifically or did you just not want any movie-based themes besides the 2 mentioned?

Not what I was expecting either. I bought VGC last year, but love DLH's aesthetic and was curious to try VDH at some point when it opened with some leftover points I have. If they're not going to let us use our points, I would hope they'd publish cash rates online prior to 3/15. With a one day exclusive booking window, it would feel very throwback to the 80's to call for a hotel reservation without knowing the damage upfront. I'm also assuming parking (currently $35/nt) would be extra given it's cash?

I'll likely wait until DVC decides to give point spenders the green light to access whatever leftovers cash buyers leave behind...

Will you be able to use points from other DVC contracts to book VDH? I mean, I know not the resale ones. But ones purchased direct, can they be used at VDH?

Any direct points will be able to stay at VDH if there is availability at the 7-month mark.

When they started sales for PVB, they encountered many legal problems with various states. They had different dates for when they could legally talk about PVB sales to people who were in different states. Florida and some others were allowing sales. Pretty sure California was one of the last ones they could discuss and sell PVB contracts in. Some (not many) posted they flew to Florida to be able to buy. From what I remember, it was almost 2 months after initial PVB sales started in Florida before California allowed sales.

Since VDH is located in California,I would hope they seems plausible they don’t start sales before California approves sales associates in CA to discuss and sell to anyone in California.

Found an old DVCNews story that briefly mentioned California delay in approving sales 3 months or so after sales started for PVB.

PVB sales started in early/mid January. Took DVC 3.5 months to get their application for sales approved back in 2015.

I suspect Disney was in turmoil with Chapek being fired and has a delay in sales approval for VDH in California.

Are you insinuating that Disney doesn't prioritize DVC members and AP holders? 🤣 What happened to all the cons about VDH.
My general feelings toward VDH haven't changed. That's not to say I'm not open to persuasion, and these pics are very persuasive!.
