Hi Kiki!
I remember talking to you on other threads. My son Adam was born with hydronephrosus (forgive the spelling)
He had the UTI exactly a year ago at the age of 10 weeks. He was in the hospital for 10 days on some strong antibiotic.
When he got out, we took him to a pediatric urologist. He sent us to Children's Hospital here in Detroit for his VCUG. He was about 12-13 weeks at the time. For that test, they strapped him to a board in almost a "spit" fashion. He was not a happy camper, but he eventually just fell asleep during the test.
He had another problem probably 3 months later and they followed up that problem with more strong antibiotics and another test. (I can't remember what type of test it was but it was to check for any kidney damage from the UTI's)
He is now on a maintanence dose of bactrim that he takes on a daily basis. Knock on wood, things have been going good! He goes back to the urologist on the 15th of April and it will probably be followed up by a repeat VCUG since it has been a year. He is now almost 14 months old. His chance for surgery is still 50% right now, but as long as he doesn't have any problems, they would not consider surgery until he is probably 3 or 4. We keep hoping and praying he will outgrow this condition!
Good luck to you...I'll keep your family in my prayers! And, I do hope they put your daughter on maintance antibiotics to prevent future UTIs too... It is kind of scary, but, Adam has actually been really healthy this past year. I kind of attribute it to those antibiotics in some small way. I know when he gets older he probably won't be able to take penicillian. But at this point, we are just trying to buy time, hoping things get better all on their own, without surgery!!!
