From VB, has anyone ever taken 95 north to 192? I'm wondering if it is any slower or faster than 95 to 528. I want a route from VB to WDW that doesn't go past the airport (we're surprising the kids with a few days in WDW after our VB trip, and I don't want them to notice that we're passing the airport and not going home), and 95-192 looks like a good route, but if it's slower than 95-528, I'd like to account for that in planning the drive.

We've never done it, but it likes like as good as a route as any...

If you really want to get the kids sense of direction switched up, you could go south into Vero Beach, then take 60 across to the FL Turnpike and follow that up... (I've talked to a few people that have taken that drive and then stated it was a little bit longer than the 95->528 route, but not much more.. )

The 60-FL Tpk route is what Google maps suggests if you get directions from Vero Beach to Lake Buena Vista. But if you use the exact address for VB/DVC it send you up 95 to 528. It may be six of one/half dozen of another.

we just to 192 from VB to WDW last week. there is currenltly construction as they are expanding it from a two lane to a divided four lane. we made very good time, except that section for WDW through Kissemee to St. Cloud is LOTS of street lights, stop and go driving. PM me if you would like more info

We also did this trip on 192 last year. Most of 192 was a nice drive, except the portion in St.Cloud/Kissimee. That portion was really really slow. Maybe there is a way around this area but we are not familiar enough with the area.

We drove from OKW to VB last August.

Sadly I don't remember how we went (The van's computer was driving, okay, it gave the turn by turn directions.)

I don't remember any traffic lights once out of Disney, nor any construction (but that might be us, 2 adults and 3 kids busy singing as we drove)

It was about a 2 hour tour. The weather started getting rough, the tiny van was tossed, if not for the singing by the fearless crew........

I do remember a 2 lane divided highway with lots of signs warning, "Smoke Area"

Never saw any smoke either!

Definitely on auto-pilot.

As long as it's a nice day, I agree with the idea of SR-60 to Florida's Turnpike. SR-60, once you get past the shopping area of Vero is a two-lane highway with ranches on either side and lots of trucks coming and going -- wouldn't really want to be on there in a thunderstorm. Once you get on the turnpike there's an exit that will take you right into WDW. I think that would be the best bang for your buck for surprising the kids.

Is it really going out of the way to get down to 60 from VB/DVC? I can't get past the idea of having to drive south first when I need to go north/northwest. But I'm beginning to think that it would actually be the best timewise.

It is about 10/15 minutes to 60 from the resort... not a bad drive at all.

I agree that it's not a big deal to drive to SR-60. While I agree you are driving "south" you are also getting right to the middle of FL and driving straight into the heart of WDW. I've only done the trip once, but thought it was a good way to go.
