VB at 7 Months for Mid July?

Hi! I'm brand new to DVC, and I'm wondering if any of you can tell me if I'm out of my mind? I'm wanting to get two 2 bedroom villas for VB for mid-July of 2012 so I can take my sisters and their families with us. Will this even be possible? Is that peak season for VB? BLT is my home resort, but I think we're just wanting to relax on the beach for this vacation. Any idea if this is going to be next to impossible or if I should just book for BLT in case we can't get VB? Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA!

We are wanting to take all of my sisters and their families with us, and there are 16 total. I figured the best way to accomodate that many with the number of points we have would be two 2 bedroom villas. I just worry that we won't be able to get two of them. We aren't wanting to stay for a full week either--maybe just 4 or 5 nights. We could try for HH as well since we're just wanting a beach vacation, but I just wondered what the likelihood would be that we might be able to get VB because I've always wanted to stay there.

Also, because I'm new at this, I didn't know if it would be good to go ahead and reserve at my home resort (BLT) so I know we for sure have a place to vacation or how all of that would work. If you book something but really want to try for something else, is it easy to switch if the one you really would like opens up? Not that it would be bad at all to stay at BLT, but we just don't really want the hustle and bustle of the parks this time around and are thinking the beach sounds so much more relaxing. Any thoughts?

For 3 to 5 night stays, I only have experience with the ocean/ garden view inn rooms, but I have been able to get as many as three of them right at the seven month mark in the past. For a weekend stay in June (10 th ) this year, I was able to get a dedicated 2 bedroom at just 4 months out.

Do you mind me asking what it means if a room is dedicated? As I was going through all of the sticky's for DVC, I noticed that each resort has a different number of dedicated rooms. Just wondered what that meant? Glad to hear that VB has always worked out for you and hoping it works out for us. Thanks!

Dedicated means there are two queen beds in the second bedroom instead of one queen and one sofabed.

No, dedicated means that it cannot be split into a one bedroom and a studio and those units rented separately.

All OKW two bedroom villas (dedicated or lockoffs) have two queen beds the second bedroom. Some BCV dedicated two bedroom villas have a queen bed and double sleeper sofa in the second bedroom because there wasn't enough room for two queen beds.

OP, I think it is going to be hard getting two twobedroom villas at 7 months out for July at VB. Good luck.

I was able to get 2 nights in a 1 BR at Vero Beach at 6 months for mid July this year, but the night before we arrive and the night after we leave were both sold out at that time, so I could not have gotten 3 nights consecutively.

I believe the peak period for Vero Beach is Spring Break, while the peak period for Hilton Head is summer.

I would think as long as you have flexibility on your dates you'd have a reasonable shot when calling right at 7 months, although I am no Vero Beach expert.

At VB a dedicated 2 bedroom has only 1 queen and 1 sofa bed in that second bedroom. I was surprised, because I expected 2 queens. A dedicated only means that it can't be split into a 1 bedroom and a studio.

I think summer is harder to book at 7 months than spring break time. I run into plenty of DVC'ers at spring break who book at the 7 month window.

Always read threads about people not being able to get VB in the summer months.

I'm going to go ahead and book at my home resort to make sure we have a place to vacation with the extended family, but hopefully I'll be able to switch it at 7 months. Is that what all of you experts would do? This will be the first time I have ever made a reservation with DVC, so I just want to make sure I'm doing things correctly. Also, some of the points will be banked points, so is there anything different about booking with banked points? We received this year's points for buying and our UY is December, so I will use our banked points and borrow from the points we will get in December. I can do that, right? I am far from an expert, but if I was switching to another WDW resort that is what I would do. If I really wanted the beach, I am not sure. If you are only going to be 10% disappointed if you end up at the parks than ok, but if you will be heart broken, I think I would bank my points or rent them and get a place on the beach. But if you can make WDW work by doing the pool and water parks and not even doing the big four parks than why not?

And there is really nothing special about making a reservation with the banked points, I often request they use those first, which is what they are suppose to generally do. On the borrowing points, if I remember your dates correctly (July 2012), you technically won't be borrowing since your reservation will be in the UY of the points you are utilizing (December 2011-November 2012). However, you can borrow from the next UY group of points (December 2013) in order to make sure you have enough to make your reservation.....

Thanks for your response. We won't be disappointed if we end up at BLT. In fact, I think we'd be quite excited since we've never stayed there and it is now our home resort. However, to keep the expenses down for the rest of my family, I was thinking the beach would be a simple, relaxing trip for all that wouldn't cost a whole lot since my mom loves to cook for all of us. My own kids would be thrilled if we ended up at WDW, so I think it will be fine either way. I've just always dreamed of staying at VB, and now that we're DVC, I thought it would be fun to take the entire family. No matter what, though, since it's Disney we'll be happy!

You are correct, I won't have to borrow any points. At least, I shouldn't have to. I received points for joining, and I'll receive my new points on Dec. 1st, so we should have enough to cover the trip if the rooms are available. Keeping my fingers crossed.
