VB Adoration & Information Thread (Plus 2007 Chair Swap)

Hi Rob! Love all your info on Vero. Just sent closing papers in, so hope to ressie for next year, probably in August. Have you ever heard of anyone packing beach chairs/umbrella and checking them in as baggage on the plane? :wizard:

Hi, I'm not Rob, but (pre-chair swap) DH and I have checked our beach chairs as baggage. Never tried it with an umbrella. On one occasion, they just wrapped the tags for the destination airport right on each chair. On another one, I think they actually boxed our chairs up and then tagged them. The only thing is that they will tell you they are not responsible for damage to the chairs, and each one will count towards your luggage allowance. So when we did check chairs, we were limited to one bag apiece.

One thing that was handy is that the beach chairs we have are backpack style with the pouch in the back, so whatever didn't fit in our luggage (and wouldn't have been ruinous if lost or stolen) we just stuffed into the pouch of the chairs.

That said, the chair swap is WAY more convenient. You don't have to drag your chairs to/from the airport, worry about them being lost or damaged by the airline, etc. One less hassle, basically.

VB is a million times better than OC as far as I'm concerned! I don't like OC at all - way too commercial and crowded. The beach is not wall to wall people, no shops, no boardwalk - just sand and water! Here are a few pictures:

This was taken from the main building (the porch off the Green Cabin Room) at around 3 pm on a Saturday

This is the beach at around 11:30 am (this was back in late June, on a Sunday)

I thought VB was one of the nicest beaches we've been to - quiet, clean - we hope to go back in June 2008 for a week, this last trip was only for a weekend.

I sent Starbox a PM a couple weeks ago, and she hasn't responded. I'm hoping someone can help me here! I'm part of the Beach Chair swap, but I have NO idea of how it works. When I get there, how do I get the chairs and umbrella? Who do I ask, what specifically do I ask for? At the end of my trip, what do I do with them?

TIA!

Anne
Can't help with swap info but just looked at the swap list and it appears we'll be there at the same time. :)

Thanks all! These pics are great! Oh, it looks so wonderful. Yes, nothing like OC......I won't know how to act on a beach where I can actually see the water from my chair! Excellent info, thanks again!:goodvibes

Yeah, the chair swap is definitely the way to go. I hope they have another one next summer. Could you possibly take those backpack style beach chairs on the plane as carry on? Just trying to think of alternatives in case there's no more swap! Thanks for your info!:goodvibes

I guess if you are willing to dedicate a larger suitcase to the beach items you could pack the chairs and a folding table, but I don't think a beach umbrella is going to fit. You could also box them up and send them via ups or something to the hotel.

I certainly can understand why a swap at VB & HHI are popular. :)

 I can't wait. Hoping for great weather! PM me if you want to meet up.

As one who has frequented OC and Rehoboth (all my young life) I can say that the waves can be equally formiddable, but the color of the water is sooo... specially blue... on the Florida east coast... not to mention the very excellent waves that are or seem to be regularly big...

We'll be taking our first trip to Vero Beach November 10th - 16th, 2007! I'm hoping the weather will still be warm enough for some good time on the beach. Is it possible to take part in the chair swap for those dates? I'll be 27 weeks pregnant and don't thing beach towels will do it for this trip!

I can't wait to go....yes, I bought site unseen (well I have seen from the web), I closed last Friday, so I am waiting to get in the system, and will make my first ressie. Vero Beach is a great alternative to the WDW. I think they will compliment each other very well, this is why I chose to add this one on. Just wish I had enough $$$ for that Beach Cottage! :goodvibes

I will be visiting Vero Beach October 13 to 20 and would like to take part in the chair swap. Please let me know how I can get involved in this?
Thanks. :goodvibes

Hi, Can you please give me the info on this chair swap? Sounds like a great idea! We will be down just for a few days in November. 8th to the 12th.

Thank you!

Starbox is the chair swap organizer, but I haven't seen her on the boards for maybe a month. You might try sending her a PM. She probably gets email notices of PMs in her mailbox.

I tried sending a PM to Starbox but it wouldn't go thru :confused3 Hopefully she will see my post. Looking forward to Vero.

Thanks

If starbox is not available, perhaps the people on the swap list can chime in and help add the people asking to be included? I was at the beginning of the swap, so my info is no longer up-to-date.

The original cost was $13.50 per family (20 total families on the original 2 lists), no matter how long the time of their stay. The original equipment included two chairs and an umbrella, but some participants have added items such as the boogie boards (at their own expense).

I believe the agreement was that any latecomers would pay the same amount, and it would go to a charitable cause (saving the turtles, if I recall). If there is cash in the box(es) and/or we have more late additions, may I suggest that the last person provide a fruit arrangement or cookie platter or something similar for the CMs that have made this so successful? Of course, an additional tip is always nice, but I believe only certain CMs are permitted to accept them.

I'm not part of the chair swap this year but think that is such an excellent idea! :thumbsup2

I think this is because you don't have enough posts yet to send PMs. There are certain things you can't do until you reach a certain number of posts.

I had the same problem. Hopefully Starbox will see this thread soon! Any idea how many posts you need before you can PM?

I organized another chair swap that is ongoing if you want to get in on it. It is just two chairs, because we did not have as many people. Let me know if you are interested...I don't want to horn in on starbox's business, but I don't want someone left out! :thumbsup2
