VB Adoration & Information Thread (Plus 2007 Chair Swap)

Wasn't that an AWESOME pic?!!! Can't wait to be sitting on that beach (in my comfortable DISSwap chairs!! )

Here's another great resource for turtle walks (also listed in the new Vaca Magic): for Monday night walks (looks like the lottery VB walks are only on Weds & Thurs nights this year) a group called Caribbean Conservation comes to VB and gives a presentation on the sea turtles and then transports you in a Disney van about 20 min north for the turtle walk. DNeph and I contributed to the "adopt a turtle" program and received all of our paper work yesterday! Looks like a terrific, well-organized group! Contact # is 1-800-678-7853. Doing a turtle walk will be the highlight of our trip, so I am happy to be able to reserve a spot and not have to 'hope' for a lottery spot (plus we check out on Wed AM, so we would have missed it altogether!).

Our family is going to be at VB for 3days/2 nights in September. If the dates are still available we'd love to get in on the swap.
We're arriving Sept. 27 and checking out on the 29th.

Well. it's our last full day in VB, and my first chance to get online (who says there is nothing to do at Vero??). It is beautiful here, but very, VERY windy, and the water is rough. We couldn't use the umbrella at all (luv2travel tried once, but had to put it away), but the chairs are wonderful based on the hour we spent in them! Temps have been in the low 80s, but with the wind it's too cool for me to spend time in the water (pool OR ocean) - hasn't stopped the 4 YOs, though (thank goodness!).

Thanka again for all your hard work, starbox! I only hope the swap keeps going until we get a chance to return here agian, because we'll certainly be back!

edited to add: BTW, I was (pleasantly) surprised to find out the lobby wireless access is free. I guess I expected it would be like most things Disney - ie, an added cost. Just wanted to add this for those of you that would make the same mistake as I did!

I know this has been mentioned somewhere. But is internet access only found in the lobby, or is it available in the rooms as well?

I'm sure it has, but I either missed it or forgot it. As of right now it is only available in the lobby.

Hi, can anyone tell me what the inside of the Handicapped Accessible (HA) Inn rooms look like (and does anyone have links to them). I'm wondering if they are garden or ocean view for HA Inn.

ALso, I'd like to be the first to request a 2008 chair swap:

Not sure what you mean by "HA" Inn rooms. The OVIR (Ocean View Inn Rooms) have a view of the ocean, but you need to be careful because some of the Inn rooms are facing north or south and you can see the ocean off to the side, but it's not the same as facing the ocean.

Yes... Starbox will be organizing a 2008 chair swap in the near future...



Ok... I'm playing around with her. I just hope she will do this again next year. I've never seen a chair swap come together so well.. Like clockwork!

bjakmom, We are heading out to VB in 20 days and my DS (7) has done nothing but talk about the turtle walk for 11 months now. He would be devastated if we didn't get to do this. Your information on the adopt-a-turtle could not have come at a better time. A couple of wquestions though: Do you need to call ahead (meaning before you arrive in VB) of time? Is there a specific amount they are looking for in the donation? Is this the same program where you get to see the turtles coming ashore to lay their eggs? Any additional information would be highly appreciated. Thanks again.

2) What is a waverunner!? And is it a fun excursion?
3) What happens at an un-birthday party and would it be fun for a 6 yr old boy?
4) Has anyone done any of the other trips offered from the resort?

I can answer this one. DD did it last year when she was 7. I just asked her about it and she said, "it was pretty fun" and she'd do it again. It's a supervised activity and parents are not allowed.

DD says they played musical chairs with live kid music but "nobody lost" because if you got "out" you joined the band, then there was a pinata with candy and then you decorated your own birthday cupcake.

goofyguy - Yes, definitely call ahead! I think we were the last 2 people he squeezed in on our night. They had to put me through to Dan's answering machine, but he called back by the next day. My donation was for $30. and he said we could name turtles and receive certificates the night of the walk- just check with him - he is very nice and seems extremely dedicated. You meet them at VB at 8:30 where you watch a film presentation and then drive to a more northern beach for the actual 'watching'. From what I've read of other's experiences, you spend the evening waiting and watching the 'watchers' wait and watch for turtles. If a turtle comes ashore (no guarantees, of course), then they take you there to watch yourself. I believe they use special red lights that don't disturb the turtles so that you can see. My letter states that they hope to head back to VB around midnight, but that it's not unusual for the field trip to go later. We'll take a good nap that day!! We go 6/4 - I'll have my laptop with me and will post our experience. My DNeph is soooo excited about being part of the research, seeing a turtle nest will just be icing on the cake!!

Didn't you drop off the list and then ask to be added back on? My guess is that is where the confusion comes in, but you are definitely on the updated list (swap list 2) - I know I put your screen name on the list I left in the box (I didn't have your real name to add). As starbox is on the same list, I'm sure she'll update the list to add "real" names for those added after she emailed me the original list.

Yup, the most updated list is a few pages back and I am going to mail new lists to VB today!!!
