Hello everyone,
We have a dilemma and hope you VB experts out there can help.

We are scheduled to stay at VB the last week of January, which is now a little more than a month away. We made the reservations at the 11-month window for a 1-bedroom and requested a direct ocean view. We thought by making these ressies so far in advance that our chances were very good that we would get what we wanted, recognizing that ocean views in a 1-bedroom are limited and exist only on upper floors of the buildings. We have previously stayed in the Inn in an ocean view room.

Now, something has come up, and we're thinking of moving the trip back a week to February. The ocean view is important.

What's the best strategy should we decide to change the reservation to that February (assuming that is possible and rooms are available)?

1. change the reservation to an ocean view Inn room, and see if a 1-bedroom with an ocean view is available when we check in and, if so, upgrade to it. My question is, can we do that without penalty?

2. change to an ocean view Inn room.

3. change to a 1-bedroom and request the direct ocean view, hoping the request can be honored at this late date.

The final possibility is ignore the thing that has come up and keep the reservation we have so we have the best chance of getting the 1 bedroom AND the ocean view, which is what we really want.

What do you think? What would you do?

Thanks in advance for your help!

:)

I think you need to decide which is most important to you -- the extra space of the 1-bedroom or the oceanview. If it's the oceanview, I'd go with the guaranteed Inn room. If you want to try the 1-bedroom, I'd go ahead and take my chances on the view. I don't think it will matter all that much whether you go in January or February in terms of getting the request. The only thing that might be a factor is that January could be less busy (February starts the "season") and there could be vacant rooms to pick from. If you stick with the 1-bedroom, I'd be sure that the view was your #1 or #2 request (smoking or non-smoking being the other top one) and try to limit other requests.

There isn't much for direct ocean view 1 BR units at VB and you have only a modest chance of getting that request even though you made the reservations at the 11 month window, IMO. I'd do what's best otherwise and hope for the best. If you want a guaranteed ocean view, take the Inn room or a Beach Cottage.

KMarie,
I would keep your current reservation. I would think you would have an excellent chance to get an ocean view if you booked at 11 months out.We booked(also 1BR) at 7 months out last year for the 4th of July week(booked solid) and got 2nd floor with a direct ocean view.
So I think you would have a better chance of getting your request honored than we did at 7 months.
You will love the space in the 1BR.Whichever you decide, I think you will be satisfied.:D
