vanishing perks

Bought OKW & SSR in 2004, there was not talk from sales staff about perks that come along with DVC points other then free parking at DVC resorts. We have lost that right as I understand it, but I am selfemployed and had to lay off 3 of my men. I guss you could say they lost more then perks and I needed to do that so my business could stay alive.

So when did any DVC resort lose free parking????? There is still free parking at ALL DVC resorts. It's just not free for those who don't care to park it themselves.

They still get your money - you've already paid DVC and you're still staying there, whether you visit the Disney parks or not. If you sell because you don't like the perks, then you'll have an impact. If you keep staying at Disney, no impace. If Disney wants to encourage us to visit their parks or a particular restaurant, then they'll offer some sort of discount.

And even if you sell your DVC ownership, it will most likely be purchased by someone who does intend to visit the parks, restaurants, etc.. So Disney likely will not care if this happens and may welcome a new owner who spends their dollars onsite...

That being said, if one does not desire to spend their money at Disney, selling is a good option. There are many other timeshares out there, cheaper in fact, which can be used for visiting those other Orlando attractions mentioned above...

The perks definitely affect my plans and how I spend my money at WDW.
If I see in my perks booklet that I get a discount at certain restaurants or stores, I look for those places as my first options. If they take away dining discounts, I will be buying more groceries off site and eating more meals in my room. That takes away money from Disney.

If I ever loose the AP discount, then I will adjust my plans and go to the parks less often. That also takes money away from Disney.
The perks help us and helps Disney. They are not something we, as members, should be blowing off as no big deal whether or not we have them.

Your first paragraph is exactly how I feel, but your second paragraph is one where we differ a little. I agree that if the AP discount went away, I would certainly adjust my park plans accordingly, but that doesn't effect me nearly as much as it does Disney. For that reason, I feel there will always be some sort of "perks" as we call them. They do change, because DVC/DVD has to re-negotiate them with the other vendors within Disney. That's why our perks and point values for exchanges into the Disney collection don't remain static. They must be re-negotiated, so some might become more cost effective for DVC/DVD than others.

Why do you suppose we have those full kitchens in our units anyway? Could it be that most timeshares are vacation "homes", and that is what the industry expects? Most timeshare folks I know outside of DVC expect to grocery shop and cook in their units. Most timeshares aren't fortunate to be as close to as many dining options as we have at WDW. Frankly, if I want to save money on food, the psaltry 10 and 20% discounts I get as "perks" isn't going to be the best way for me to save. Instead, I'd buy my own groceries and make my own meals.

I wonder what "perks" those other "Orlando Parks" are offering to you as a DVC member? My guess would be that there are a lot more "DVC Member" perks at Disney than at Universal or Sea World, aren't there? At least I sure haven't seen any specific DVC Member perks at those other parks. ;)

Also, a $100/$125 DVC discount per person on an AP seems to be a means to encourage repeat business to the parks, doesn't it?

:lmao: i think disney now owns 2 of the three "orlando parks" and seems to be working on the third! :lmao: i love it!!!
