Vanilla in Cozemel and Costa Maya

Inspired by the other vanilla thread. Is is easy to get vanilla near the dock on the east coast of Mexico?

Just go anywhere they sell booze!!! I usually buy mine there.

This thread reminded me that I am getting low--I may try making my own using a whole vanilla bean and a pint of vodka since there's no Mexico trips on MY horizon

The first lg souvenier shop to the left after you cross the pedestrian bridge at the mall in Cozumel across from TGIF Fridays upper level.
The brand I bought is Los Cinco Soles 1000ML Bottle for $12-$16 back afew years.
VERY Vannilla potent as a little goes a long way--probably half you would put in a recipe compared to the week stuff here in the states.
Good quality and it is still potent after I bought it 5-6 yrs ago.

You still have some after 5-6 years? Guess I use way more vanilla than you do. And I don't reduce the amount - I like the vanilla flavor.

Bought two big bottles in Cozumel at one of the stores in the dock-area shopping plaza.

You will not have a hard time finding Vanilla in Mexico, that's for sure. Now, deciding what size bottle you'll need, that's the hard part!

When buying vanilla in Mexico make sure the label states it doesn't contain couramin.
I love the taste of pure Mexican vanilla. It's so much better than the artificial flavoring you can buy cheaply in the grocery store.

We love getting our vanilla from mexico!! It is the best. usually buy 2 of the largest we can find. Just remember to pack in check bag, cant carry on airplane. have seen tsa take from people who try to carry it on. would hate to loose it!

I used to always buy vanilla in Cozumel and then worry about it in my suitcase on the plane ride home. I use it weekly in my baking and ran out before my next trip. I decided to try buying it on line and it was so easy. I bought Danncy Vanilla from EBay. It also costs less (including shipping) than it did in Mexico. I don't use plastic so once I received it, I transferred it to a glass bottle. I won't be lugging it back in my suitcase ever again and I have been using Mexican vanilla for over 30 years.

I researched many brands and this is one I prefer...also coumarin free..there are several old negative posts on the internet so I can't prove 100% that it is.
