I despise Twilight but I LOVE the Vampire Diaries.

Well, I don't hate Twilight. The books are okay but the films are awful. But yes to the Vampire Diaries > Twilight thing.
I was reading it in school the other day and the amount of times I had to say "it was written before Twilight ok" when people looked at what I was reading..

Well I love the Southern Vampire Mysteries/True Blood because they are a mix of the romance and the violence. I don't like Twilight and trolling against it is fun.

I've never read the Vampire Diaries, but I've seen the show and really didn't care for it.
