Hi all,

DH and I are currently awaiting ROFR for our first DVC purchase so we don't have access to a lot of information so I hope this is not a dumb question. I have read on a lot of different threads people talking about value rooms and that the points for them are much lower. Can someone please tell me what the difference is between a value room and a standard room? :confused3 TIA!

Hi all,

Some of the DVC resorts have different booking categories, and some of those categories have different point "prices" to book.

For example, at the AKV, you can book a savannah view, standard view (no view of the animals), value room, or concierge room. The value rooms are the cheapest because they are smaller. They may or may not have a view of the animals. You won't know until you check-in. The concierge rooms give you access to the concierge lounge, and give you a few extra perks. They are the most expensive. Standard View rooms are cheaper than Savannah View rooms.

At the BWV, you can book Preferred View, or Standard View. Standard View will likely get you a view of the parking lot, but is fewer points per night. Preferred View covers either a view of the Boardwalk (which is it's own booking category, but costs the same # of points as other Preferred Views), or another nicer view than Standard.

Other resorts have different booking categories as well. Unless you own at the resort you are trying to book, it is likely the cheaper room categories will be booked before the 7 month window during most times of the year.

Just note that the only resort that has a "value" category is AKV and then only at the Jambo building and not Kidani. There are not many value rooms there and they can be completely reserved most times of year during the 11 month window for owners at AKV and before the 7 month window for owners at other resorts begins. Those values are smaller than any other DVC rooms and about 40% have savanna view, 40% pool, and 20% parking lot. "Standard" rooms are same size and decor as other usual DVC rooms at a resort and standard at BWV and AKV describes the view (parking lot or tennis court at BWV; at AKV the pool at Jambo or pool or road at Kidani), and at BLT it simply means lowest floor (and you can actually get a MK view although that one also looks directly at parking lot). At OKW, BCV, VWL and SSR there are no standard or value room categories.
