HI

We have caught the disney bug LOL and I would really like to take my kids back to WDW again very soon!!! ( we were there dec 04')
We stayed at CR and just loved it......i would like to get together a trip back before DD 13 is too busy with highschool life in 1 1/2 years ( fall of 07')
since we save up everything cash - it will take us a while to save up ( new years resolution I made, different story) but I am looking for opinions from the Diser's for resort choice :goodvibes
DH & I decided that if we went back anytime soon, we would concentrate on our familys favorite park, MK and would be going to 2 nts/ 3 days.
in light of that CR would be our choice again for the closenes and the ease of the hotel( dining , etc) BUT a value would be much easier to save for ----
Is it silly to stay at a value to go to MK 2 days? - where would you suggest would be the best place for us? DD's 13 & 5 , mom and dad :rotfl: LOVED the monorail rides....i think we we would miss that!
BUT if we stayed value we could shave off almost $1k off the bill
( we have decided on the new package with the dining feature) Are there still codes out there for rooms? We would be looking at january 2006

any thoughts, suggestions ,etc would be great!

If staying at a value means savings and going sooner than I would definitely book a value!

Besides, you can ride the monorail when you go for dinner at chef Mickey's with all the $$$ you saved from staying at a value!

If going to WDW more often means staying at a value.....we stay at a value. The disney magic is still there and the bus rides are not that bad. Plus being there for such a short time I gather you will mostly spend yor days in the parks and be at the rresort to sleep and swim.

Wow! Tough call! Normally I'd always recomend a deluxe (I love them so) but in your case you could go either way. CR would be the most convienant for what you're looking to do, but for $1000 I'm not sure if it's worth it. You can buy a lot of neat stuff and/or eat a neat places with a $1000 over two days!

To me, you've got three options. 1) Stay at CR for the higher price 2) Stay at a Value and take that $1000 to blow on other stuff, this means you spend the same amount of $$$ as if you were going to stay at the CR or 3) stay at the Value and not have to save up as much, you would therefore spend less on your trip.

Personally, if my goal was to spend as much time in MK as possible, and meals and shopping were not going to factor in to my trip, I'd spend the extra money on CR. If you also want to be able to eat at some nice sit downs or character meals, or you've always dreamed of blowing a wad of $$$ at a pin cart, then I'd stay at a value and have tons of spending cash.

I'd only stay at a Value with no/little spending money as a last resort if I couldn't save enough for the first two options.

Actually, I'd never stay at a Value at all, I'd pay to stay at a moderate, but that's just me.

Another suggestion, why not look at the prices for WL? I hear they are often the cheapest of the MK Deluxes, and you'd still be close to MK (not as close as CR, but a heck of a lot closer than the Values!).

I would stay at the Value we just got back from POP and it was great seeing as you will spend your trip at the park why spend all that money on the hotel I thought POP was great it was clean very friendly cm's mouskeepers were great food was so so very pricey for what you got in my opinion we ate there one dinner and one full breakfast and never ate there again we did buy the refill mugs was well worth it for the 11 bucks I say stay cheaper and use the money on other things like meals and shopping!!

why not try finding an answer somewhere in the middle? you can try a moderate resort out. i hear such great things about POR, and although you wouldn't be on the monorail, you may find you like the boat ride to DTD. also, you can still ride the monorail from MK to CR for Chef Mickey, GF for 1900 Park Fare, or Poly for Ohana.

maybe you could look into WL. still not on the monorail, but cheaper then CR, and still just a boat ride away from MK. and of course there are the Ft. Wilderness Cabins. i know my DD's are dying to stay there! from there you are also just a boat ride away from MK.

i think you have many options, not just deluxe or value. have fun deciding!

If you're only staying 2 nights how could staying at a value save you $1000? I don't think the rack rates for the rooms are that different are they? Not sure what room you had at the CR but what about a wing room? I think they're about $250/night depending on the season - wouldn't that be a difference of about $250-$400 total at most in your budget for 2 nights?

Not that it wouldn't save you money to do a value but I don't know where you're coming up with $1000! :confused3

We stayed at the CR earlier this month for about $194 a night including tax and that was with an AP discount of $100 a night off the room rate. If you plan to go back to WDW within the next year you might consider having one of the adults buy an AP just to get a discount on the room. You couldn't get the MYW meal package with it but you can get the DDE card which saves you 20% on most dining.

I agree with another poster and check out WL. Although they aren't right on the monorail, they have a boat ride to MK and a boat to CR where you can do Chef Mickey's or hop on the monorail to Epcot, or any other resort.

I personally would not stay in a value as the moderates aren't that much more but are so much nicer as far as theming, restaurants etc... I only stay on the monorail for a short trip or if we plan on doing more relaxing than just going to parks all day and obviously if we can afford it.

Are you only going to WDW for 2 nights or just MK?? - I was sorta confused by this. Since you are planning on going in January keep in mind that most of the parks are closed by 6 or 7pm on weekdays and I think the latest MK stays open is maybe 8pm on Sat night. I think World Showcase at Epcot stays open until 9pm everyday though. That means you probably wouldn't be at the resort all day but may want to do some things at night. I personally would want to stay at WL since it is cheaper than the monorail resorts and have the camp fires/movies at Ft Wilderness, or maybe Port Orleans since they have the boat ride to DTD for night time.

For that time of the year, I personally would avoid AKL since it is far away from MK and dark early so no animal sight seeing when you get back from the parks. I also would probably avoid Carribean Beach or Coronado since they are both so spread out that not only will you be waiting for buses but doing lots of resort walking as well.

Oh one more thing, if you go soon after New Years, I think some of the WL christmas decorations are still up too.
