Good morning. My parents are planning a Disney trip. They haven't been in...15 years? :) Things have changed a lot. They are 71 and 77. I was looking into the Value Resorts with them. We have 3 kids so we've always been at POR or CBR and we have not been to any of the Values.

My quest is to find them a Value Resort that will yield the least amount of walking. They will be doing plenty of walking at MK and EPCOT. Is there a Value Resort that is a good bit smaller than the others? or has a bus system for transportation inside the resort? They would be walking to the food court and the bus stops. Any other thoughts on this would be most welcome.

TIA!

Honestly, I'd do everything I could to talk them into a Moderate. I can see you have many POR's under your belt and you know how nice that is. The noise and activity level is raised up considerably when you hit the values. I just think they'd enjoy a moderate much more.

I agree with Richmo above. But if you have to pick a value, I'd do a Pop preferred room.

AoA has the newest rooms, but the regular (non-suite) rooms are the furthest from the bus stop at that resort.

We had a 50's lake view room at Pop, and it was super quiet. And the walk wasn't terrible to the bus stops or the food court.

Another for POP. Ive also stayed in POR perferred. We are in 60s standard at POP and the walk is definitely shorter to pool, lobby, and buses than POR. Im having a better experience with buses at POP also fwiw.

The All Stars are the smaller value resorts, from back to front none of the rooms are very far away and you don't have to pay for a preferred. There are buildings in all the resorts that are close to the buses and food courts that aren't preferred, just look at the resort thread for the resorts. I would also suggest if they can swing it to go for a moderate, the values are loud and a little bit of sensory over load. POFQ isn't very large but again all of them have buildings with bus transportation right behind them and the walks aren't bad to the food courts and you don't have to pay for preferred.

I would agree that you may not need a preferred room at Sports or Movies, but the layout at Music makes many of the standards super far away from the main building/buses.

I would price out the preferred Pop and POFQ. You may find them both similarly priced and POFQ is very small and very easy walking to everything.

I'd go with Pop Century just because of your parents' ages. They can slowly walk around each century and take a quiet walk along the canal and read the signs about a special thing that happened each year between 1950 and 1999. My husband and I are in our mid 50s and love to do that and laugh at where we were and what we were doing that that thing happened. It's just a nice thing to do with someone you will be with for the rest of your life.

If value is your only option I would book a Preferred room, probably at POP.

Second choice would be ASSports, it is a very tight resort.

My parents are 69 and 73 and they absolutely love POP.
They would definitely choose it over the couple of other Disney resorts they have stayed in which includes AOA and CSR.
My mom loves the 50's section and "her" bowling pin pool lol.
I'd suggest a preferred room but NOT preferred pool view.
Honestly I personally wouldn't recommend a moderate for those not looking for a hike.
We find there's much more walking involved with moderates.

I have stayed preferred at Pop and ASMovies. Both were very close to food court and bus stop, but in terms of walking distance I'd give the edge to ASMovies. The resort was all around smaller and everything closer together. If you get a preferred at ASMovies(Toy Story or 101 Dalmatians section) you're pretty much guaranteed to not have to hike. I wouldn't risk not getting preferred at any of the resorts though. Even at ASMovies, if they ended up on the far end of the Herbie section, that might still be a longer walk than they want to do.

Pop Century. Ask for a King Room, while not a bookable category, they provide a nice sized bed and more floor space. Our grands get a wheelchair room so they get a walk in shower with stool. They worry about falling when stepping over the tub in the standard rooms. They also like the tall commode and multiple grab bars.

The King room provides enough room to wheel in the scooter and charge it at night so they don't have to leave it outdoors.

We also like Pop, lake view rooms and love walking around reading the signs. Give them a few tips for minimizing the walking at both the resort and the parks. At the resort if they are doing breakfast in the food court, get up and ready and pack for the day, go over to the food court and then get on the bus, minimizing the walking back and forth to the room. At the parks have a touring plan that visits attractions close to each other, especially at Epcot they don't want to be walking back and forth across the park. Visit the attractions in both parks that let you sit down on a regular basis, for me it isn't just the walking but the time on your feet that can be a killer!

Totally agree with this! The standard rooms at music is quite far.

Yes, i agree with POFQ. Its the smallest moderate resort. Sorry but there's no way i'd recommend POR for your folks. Its way too spread out, even with a preferred room. POFQ is their best bet for moderates. Its a small resort with only one bus stop. Very little walking.

If value is your only option I would book a Preferred room, probably at POP.

I agree with this. Because of their age, they'd probably enjoy the theme at Pop...definitely get them a preferred room. I too love pop but I also love the all star sports resort. Theyre both fantastic value resorts. Sports has such a great theme, and its a tad smaller than pop. But again, i think they'd enjoy pop more.

One more vote for Pop. Preferred room and ask to be close to Transportation. The food court had nice choices. Plus I'm sure they'd love all the memorabilia.
Plus you can see fireworks from the Hippy Dippy pool at night

The problem with the value resorts for your parents is that the bus stops at the parks are the ones the farthest away form the park gates. I like the Pop a lot, but the bus stop is almost always the one farthest away from the park itself. And that can add up to a lot of extra walking when your parents are tired and trying to head back to their resort. Another negative of the values is that they lack seating at the bus stops. You have to line up in a queue without shade or seating.

If you can, convince them to upgrade to Port Orleans French Quarter. It is a small resort, so no matter where they end up they won't have too much walking. They will have a covered bus stop at the resort with seating, so more time to be off of their feet.
