Does anyone know of a way to find out how much some older Hallmark Ornaments might be worth? I have looked at completed listings on e-bay, but they don't include some of the ornaments.
Hallmark published a book a few years ago giving the suggested market value of their past ornaments. According to that book, I have several worth almost $500 each. Of course, this assumes the ornaments are in mint condition in their original boxes.
The only real way to tell is to look at places where people are selling them. Take a look at Ebay and you'll get an idea of what they may go for. The best place to sell them is at auction or some type of show featuring collectibles.
I bought a Hallmark guide off ebay a few years ago..like the previous poster said, it's all about condition and being like new in the boxes. I have the entire original set of Wizard of Oz, in the boxes, in mint condition..according to the book I could get a fortune for it, IF I could only find the right buyer!
I have been buying Hallmark ornaments for about 35 years. If I could sell them all, I might be a millionaire, lol!!
I've been in the process of selling many of my Hallmark Ornaments.
I've been selling on ebay and only one so far has sold for anywhere near what that book said. Add in the fact that the book is a few years old and you'll find ornaments are a dime a dozen now. Even the once really expensive originally Starship Enterprise isn't worth much now.
It's all about what people are willing to pay - and they aren't willing to pay that much.

I have to agree with this. I was one that was caught up in the Barbie craze. Bought all this supposedly "collector" Barbies that were going to be worth money. I ended up selling a majority of them for less than what I bought them for. I still have quite a few, but would not get anywhere near what I paid for them. Harley Davidson Barbie #1 was going for a high price for awhile, now it is half the original price.
It is all a matter of what someone will pay. If they want it bad enough, you might be able to get a good price.

Most of those books were written before the economy crashed. Now the value of most things is what someone is willing to pay for them.
Watch some of these auction shows and pawn store shows and you will hear the professionals say that very thing - it's only worth as much as a buyer with the money is willing to pay for it.
I'm glad I have only collected things I like to look at, because I don't mind being stuck with them for a while, and if I do sell them at a loss I still feel that the value is in my enjoyment if them, not the resale price.
I don't know if this is true, but I was told (several years ago) that ebay has kind of ruined the collector's market for many things, including Hallmark ornaments. There are so many things available now, that the value has not stayed high.
