Val's Journal (comments welcome)

:wave2: Hi, everybody! Thanks so much for stopping by :D .

I think all the pixie dust worked because I weighed in this morning at 156 :Pinkbounc . That's nine pounds total in a little under 6 weeks (will be six weeks on Monday). I know it's not much to some, but for me I am finally seeing that dial move in the right direction and it gives me such hope for the future.

I also lost 3" total from my waist . Didn't lose inches anywhere else. In fact, I actually gained 1/4" in my thighs  . I'm thinking maybe muscle. Either way I am a happy camper since I need to loose around the middle the most.

Goals for this week were right on schedule:
1.)vitamins 3/3
2.)water 2/3
3.)limit fast food 2/3
4.)limit desserts 3/3
5.)exercise 2/3

I used my fast food cheat today and I planned on it since I knew what today's schedule was going to look like. I had a chicken twister from kfc and their kind of french fries (called something else but I'm clueless right now  ). That was around two and it's the only thing I've had today besides a granola bar for breakfast and it's just sitting in the pit of my stomach :crazy2: . I told dh I think I finally lost my taste for greasy food. I'm hoping to make next week a fast food free week.

I just wanted to add that I do always drink some water everyday just not 60 oz. I usually get around 20-40 on weekends so that's why I don't set my goal for all the days.

Took a scheduled break from exercise today since so many of you advocate taking days off in order to rest your body. I plan to be back at it tomorrow. I may try doing two Pilates work-out per morning this week but that will be the limit. No more 4 per day and pulled muscles for me ;) . I actually like doing less since I really throw all I have into it and when I'm done I'm looking forward to what I get to do the next day. I'm still doing two miles a night on the treadmill on exercise days too.

Here's next week's goals:

goals for 4/4 - 4/10

1.)vitamins 7/7
2.)water 5/7
3.)limit fast food 7/7
4.)limit dessert 7/7
5.)exercise 5/7

That's all for now. I'm off to read up on journals.

Great job with your goals Val!!:hyper: I like how you've recognized you need to break it down to weekly goals. Good for you!
And I definitley know what you mean about losing your taste for greasy food. It definitely is becoming less appealing to me too!::yes:: If you HAVE to go fast food, try the salads at McDs or BK. They are pretty good and very much on plan if you leave off the dressing or ask for their lowfat dressing. Just another option for you!
Well, lets cross our fingers and hope they were wrong about the snow for today/tonight. We DON'T want anymore of that! We want :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: !!
Have a great day Val!

:wave2: Hi everyone,
The weekend went all right even though I didn't get any exercise in yesterday. That time change just kicked me in the butt and the day got away from me. I WILL exercise tonight and I can still meet my goal for the week.

We took ds to see the Easter bunny at dh's work yesterday. It was just too cute to see him. He kept saying to me. "Mommy, I don't think the Easter bunny is just wearing a costume. He's real, right?" I told him I didn't think he was wearing a costume either. I can't beleive my little baby is growing up so fast :( .

I may have a problem with my no fast food goal tomorrow. We have to take ds to an ear specialist about an hour away and his appt. is a 4:00. This means we'll probably stop somewhere for dinner on the way home. DH told me he really wants to go to Friendly's. We'll see how that goes.

Good morning Val!

Congratulations on the weigh loss and on shrinking 3 inches! :jumping1: :jumping1:

Your goals are looking great! You are doing a wonderful job!

Isn't it funny how our taste buds change? We had pizza a few nights ago, and it tasted okay, but my body sure didn't like it much. :scared:

***:wizard: to your DS for his appointment tomorrow and to you with the fast food goal. Maybe DH will come up with another place to eat. If not, I'm sure you'll make great choices anyway! ::yes::

Have a great Monday!

val, congrats on the lost poundage and the lost inches!!! :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

i think it's really good that you realize that it's more realistic for you to make weekly goals instead of monthly. i think breaking it down into smaller steps makes it seem much more attainable ::yes::

if you go to friendly's, i know they have chicken soup. i'm pretty sure they have salads too. or you could get something like a grilled chicken sandwich. there are healthier options available, obviously not as healthy as home cooked, but you get hte idea. either way, good luck!

hope you have a great day today :sunny:

Congratulations on the pounds and inches!

Way to Go! I know that you can stay on program even with a trip to Friendly's. You can find a healthy alternative at almost any restaurant these days.

Good Luck tomorrow.

:wave2: Thanks for stopping by everyone!

Yesterday went well concerning goals. They were all met. Today is going to be a challenge. I'm really nervous about this appt. for ds. They are thinking that he is deaf in one ear :( . I just hope I'm able to stay op despite being stressed. I'm going to do my Pilates in a few minutes and hopefully work out some stress. I'll log back on later today with the results of the dr. appt.

Well, we got the :sunny: , but does it have to be so darn COLD!!! Spring has to come, right?!
Good Luck with your DS and his ears. Where do you have to go to the doctor? I'm just curious because your here in CT. We used Dr Coffey in Monroe and we LOVE Dr Coffey. I mean like, seriously LOVE him!! In fact, this reminds me to make an appt for DS with him.
Okay, so I hope you have a good day today. If you do go fast food, make smart choices!!! :smooth:

Oh my, I was posting at the same time as you. So sorry to hear that about DS. I'll keep him in my prayers. A big  and :wizard: for both of you. I hope all goes well today!

Good morning Val!

I'll be thinking of you and your son as you head to the doctor's appointment. ***:wizard: that everything goes well today.

The Pilates will definitely help with your stress level. I just love the videos I have now, even though I'm still sore all over. It's a great workout!

Take care of yourself today, and as Sharon said, make good choices. :)

:wave2: Hi Sharon,
We are taking him to the Pequot Health Center in Groton. We actually live way up in the north east corner of the state very close to the MA and RI borders. Groton is about an hour away from us. The place we are taking him today is an audialogy (sp.) testing center.

Val,
here]s some :wizard: for your son. I hope everything goes well, and that you will have some answers. Please let us know how he is.

Val~
Lots of  and :wizard: and prayers for you and your son. I hope that everything goes well. Please keep us updated.

Thanks for the good wishes, Sharon, Angela, Beth and Tracy :grouphug: . I really appreciate them. Sorry I didn't get back here yesterday. It's been a hectic two days in more ways than one.

The appointment went very well yesterday. I really liked the center we brought him to and they were very good with children. We found out that ds has a mild to moderate hearing loss in his right ear. It's not nerve damage and it's not fluid but somewhere along the line there is a problem. I think the term they used was conductive (or constructive) hearing loss. They said ds hears a normal speaking voice like a whisper in that ear. Luckily, his left ear works perfect. We have to go back in three months and also follow up with his regular ear dr. to see what will be done. He may need a hearing aide or he may need a special speaker system where the teacher wears a microphone in a school setting.

Once we got home I got a call from the mom of the little boy I watch telling me that the eye infection he has is possibly staph infection. He was here on Monday since at the time we thought it wasn't contagious. She was planning on still sending him today but I really felt uncomfortable with it. It kept me up all night since I don't want any of us to get sick plus I watch two older kids after school and I didn't want them to be exposed. I finally called my dr. this morning and he said as long as the little boy was on antibiotics for 24 hours to just use precautions such as hand washing, don't share food, etc. it would be okay. Well, I had called the mom first thing to let her know I felt uncomfortable and she meanwhile made other arrangements while waiting for the call back from the dr. so he isn't coming today. I feel much better not taking a chance. Between this and ds's ear, my stress level is through the roof right now :scared1: ! Time for some Pilates stress relief ::yes:: .

Oh yes, and I was a bad girl last night at Friendly's. Had half a burger, small bit of fries, and ice cream. At least I had the low-fat frozen yogurt as my ice cream  . Didn't get to the treadmill yesterday but I did Pilates so I'm counting it as exercise. Both will get done today.

I really enjoyed AI last night! George is the MAN :teeth: ! I also liked Jennifer and didn't think JPL was all that bad. I don't think he will be in the final three or anything but he is better than some of those left and I hope he makes it awhile longer.

Well, there's my novel for the day. I'm going to try and get to some journals now and finish up with the rest this evening. Have a great day :sunny: !

 Val,

I'm glad your appointment went well. Hearing aides are so small now, noone would notice. You did the right thing asking the mom to keep her child home. You have a resposibility to your family and all the other kids you watch. Good for you.

I also really like George and Jennifer on AI. I think the fonal 3 will be George, Latoya, and Fantasia. I would be happy with George or Latoa. Fantasia's voice annoys m.

Have a good sfternoon.
Beth

Val, It sounds like the appointment for your DS went pretty well. It's always good just to really understand what's happening with our kids, isn't it?

Good luck with the sick child from day care. A staph infection in the eye really doesn't sound good. I hope they can help her out.

Have a great rest of the week, and congrats on the scale reading this weekend!

Val - sounds like yesterday went pretty well with the doctor. I think it is good to find out something like that early so you can work with it. I always felt terrible when I'd be yelling at DS and then come to find out he had an ear infection with tons of fluid and couldn't hear me very well to begin with. :( Plus speech patterns develope now....... Yes, a very good thing to know!! ::yes::
I hope everything starts to settle down now for you. The stress certainly makes staying OP difficult. I hope you were able to get your pilates done. And give yourself credit for Friendly's 1/2 burger, fries and frozen yogurt? I think you did very well!::yes:: Before you started this WOL, I'm sure you would have eaten something else, right??!!!;)
AI - ya gotta love George! His personality just shines right thru! Plus he has a good voice. My top three are George, LaToya and Fantasia. Jennifer has a great voice too, but her mannerisms when she sings bug me. If John Stevens or Camille doesn't go this week, I'm gonna throw the towel in with that show! :bounce:
Enjoy this lovely weather we are having for a change. :sunny: Unfortunately, I don't think its gonna last. :(

Hi Val!

I'm glad to read that your son's appointment with the doctor went so well. It's so much better when possible problems are detected at an early age. ::yes::

I'll second Sharon's opinion that you did a good job with eating at Friendly's. There's no way I'd have settled for frozen yogurt...it might even have gotten ugly.

Hope the Pilates was a good stress reliever for you! Keep up the good work!
