Hi all!

Well we've just over a week to go to our 2nd DLP trip!!:cool1: so just doing some final planning.

We're taking my mum with us this time and staying overnight close by the night before so we get our full 5 days. We'll then be staying at the Cheyenne for 4 nights.

I was just wondering if anyone had any tips with regards to Val d'Europe. Such as, is it worth visiting? How easy is it to get to from DLP? (will also have DS, 6 and DD, 3 if that makes a difference!) also is it open for late night shopping?

I don't know if we'll need a break or not but just wondered if it would make a good back up plan if we needed to escape for a while! :)

Thanks so much

All I can remember is that there's a huge Auchan supermarket there. Think you can get a shuttle bus from DLP.

You have 2 parts to the shopping centre

Centre Commercial Val d'Europe - Auchan which has the hypermarket on 2 levels (food on lower level) and tons of highstreet shops (some that you'll know like H&M, Etam, Gap, Zara and then others like Promod, Sephora that I don't think are in the UK yet)and restaurants.

There is also Sea Life

http://www.valdeurope.fr/boutique

Auchan is open from 8.30 - 22.00 Mon-Sat

The shops from 10.00 - 21.00 Mon- Sat

http://www.valdeurope.fr/restaurants

Restaurants from 10.00 - 00.00 Mon-Sun

Vallée Village which is a sort of outlet center but the prices aren't that great to us at least maybe better for foreigners

http://www.lavalleevillage.com/

They are open from 10.00-20.00 Mon -Sat and 10.00-19.00 Sun

From the bus station at Disney you've got the following buses that go there

06-34-43-50

or you can get the RER one stop to Val d'Europe which is the quickest way to do it

:goodvibes

Ah thanks both for your replies! :thumbsup2

Carrie, that's absolutely fab, thanks so much for all the details. Think it'll definitely go on the list for a trip out one evening! Think me and mum will be ready for a shopping break but just don't fancy the idea of trekking all the way into Paris while the kids are so little. Hopefully will be a happy medium :happytv:

Thanks again,

Gill x

We went in March and got a taxi return for i think €10. Just go to the Cheyenne info desk and they will call you a cab. It drops you off at the entrance to the shopping centre and you say a time for pickup at the same point.

Ooooooh, fab that's great to know! Makes it even easier :) I wouldn't have even considered a taxi, presuming it'd be too much so thanks so much for the info!! :thumbsup2

We went and it was pretty easy to get to using the metro from disneyland. I think it was the RER line A, it was only 1 or 2 stops and really cheap for a return fare. I can't remember exactly how much- it was 3 years ago but it was cheap and we are going back in 3 weeks and planning on going back.

In terms of the shopping centre itself, its not great. It's ok but we mainly went for the supermarket to get some things for the hotel room, some fruit etc and it was brilliant for that! I'm sure if we found our way there, then you can! lol.

The only RER up there is the A, it's 1 stop, they run every 15 mins, takes less than 5 mins and costs 1,75€ each way ;)

Ahh, yeah i thought it was 1 stop. Very cheap too! Cheaper than bus fare here! Thanks for that, just helped me out too for when I'm back. :)

I know this is probably a stupid question but in case we decide on the train option.... Do we get the RER you're referring to at the train station by the shuttle bus drop off at Disney?

Thanks x

Yes :goodvibes

I VERY much appreciate the links but I was wondering if any of these stores are a department store that would carry fashion winter wool coats....good quality but not too expensive...

It's always hard to tell exactly what kind of store a place is really like from the name. Certainly when you're not familiar with European stores...although I'm getting more acquainted with UK ones these days. Something like a Debenhams or John Lewis I guess in UK terms...??
But also any of the high street stores. Good but not designer?

Thanks :) :wave2:

You ve not got a dept store in there unfortunately. There are some branches of Galeries Lafayette out in the suburbs but it would be ask quick going into Paris

Maybe you should be looking in the Vallée Village shops for that sort of quality :confused3

1 2 3 do nice items depending on the collections and are better qualité than some - you can have a look through the sites and get an idea..there's prices also on there

Caroll has a good reputation

http://www.caroll.com/fr_fr/

Younger looking is Etam but they size up small - don't know what size you are after

http://en.etam.com/

Mango is nice for certain things - they are Spanish like Zara but better made imo

J.Riu has a good selection of stuff, not badly priced and not badly made

Mine last wool coat came from J.Riu and I've had it 2 years. I'm happy with it and it's wearing well.

hth a bit and happy hunting :goodvibes

When buying RER tickets, take a look at the "Carnet 10 tickets": there is a nice discount if you buy a carnet, it should be a 30% discout compared to buying 10 tickets.
So if you are a group of 4 (roundtrip: 8 tickets) it should be slightly convenient, if you are a group of 5 it's a good deal.

Thank you Carrie!!

I'll have a happy little hunt now! Just having a few names and looks in mind really helps :woohoo:

I'll have a car but I don't want to venture too far for shopping. Just trying to get my head around what is on offer here :goodvibes

I could loose 5-10 kg but it won't adjust my coat size much as I have broad shoulders meaning I'm a size 18 pretty much...
So I don't want people who size up small :lmao: ;)
[That's in TM-Lewin and UK/Australia sizing. Not sure what that will be in European sizing.]

It's actually 20% discount, wish it was 30% :goodvibes

If you are after them you want a Carnet origin destination Marne la Vallée-Chessy / Val d'Europe and will cost 14€

That puts you in a EU 46 or a FR 48.

123 go up to a FR 46 but it depends on the cut as they can fit bigger

Etam will be too small unless the over sized look continues

J.Riu will fit as their 5 is a good 48 see even 50 depending on cut and material

Caroll is like 123 iirc

Mango like Zara is ok for 46/48 for a good selection

It's trial and error though and it's worth looking anyway even in shops that size small and trying things on.

Coats are fun as the French are narrower in the shoulders and arms than North Europeans so you often feel tight in them even if the rest of your body is fine :confused3

Have a look at the VV site though as you can get some good discounts especially if the exchange rate is good and you've got some good qualité brands over there

Thank you for the advice.

As I don't live in a cold climate our choices are limited and the prices are just ridiculous for what they do bring in and it does SO MUCH depend on the cut.
Lewin I'm an 18. But I do from the past have some 16 (46) that fit?

So I'm not desperate. But the exchange rate is good and I do want to take advantage of the access to good brands and range :)

I never knew that about the French though :lmao:
I'm from Anglo-saxon and European blood lines so tall with the broad shoulders but I do so love a European cut (of any sort) vs so much of the other stuff you see...

Hunt I will

If you have Disney shares you can get cvouchers for 10% off shops in the outlet centre - they give you a book of 6 - but you can't use them on special offers, only the "normal" discounted prices. Esprit is a good shop - they used to have one in Bluewater but it moved - also Aigle and Ralph Lauren Polo.
