I need help buying a new vacuum! I am thinking about spending the $$$ on a Dyson, but I am wondering if it is worth it. Anyone have a great vacuum cleaner and want to tell me about it? I need to buy something sooner rather than later, but I want to make a good purchase. :thumbsup2

We bought an Oreck a few months ago and LOVE it.
It's light weight and I prefer bags over bagless.
The bagless one we had was horrible. I would go right to our
garage to empty it into our garbage bin and the dust would fly.
I can't imagine emptying it in our house. The bagless would restrict
flow as the dust seemed to clog the filters quickly. I had to empty
the canister of the bagless before I was done vacuuming.
And the bags are a lot cheaper then all of the filters, etc we had
to buy for the bagless.

When we bought our Oreck we also got a small canister vacuum
And a "thankyou" gift. I was able to go online to pick out our gift.
I got a docking station for my i-pod. Which I wanted anyway.
So for just under $300.00 we got two vacumms and a docking station.

I have the Dyson "Animal" and it is wonderful! I still can't believe the amount of pet hair it picks up. It's light weight and does a great job. The cannister pops out easily and it has a button on the handle. When you go to empty it you just hold it over the garbage can and hit the button. The bottom opens and the hair/dirt drops out. FYI - It is messy doing that though - can't see doing that while in the house...

Another vote for the animal if you have pets. I have a golden and a black long-haired dog and you would not believe what gets picked up by that thing.

three words.."Buy a Kirby"
I have only had one issue with mine in the 10 years Ive owned it. I took it in to the Kirby shop, and they fixed it, free of charge, on the spot, with no receipt and no questions asked. They will continue to do so until Im dead..

The Dyson Animal is AMAZING. It's a miracle. Truly. Just about the best thing I've ever purchased. Ever. Really. I'm nuts about it. Or maybe just nuts. ;)

Seriously I've had golden retrievers for 10+ years now and this is the best vacuum I've ever had at picking up the hair.

I've had my Dyson for 4 years, and it is the best!!!!!!!!

I have an Oreck and I love it. I have three big dogs and have never had a problem. I think the Oreck is cheaper than the Dyson.

I had a Kirby rep do a demo last winter on the Sentria. I loved it and was sold on it just couldn't afford it at that time. A lot of people recomend the Dyson Animal. Has any one that has the Dyson Animal ever had a Kirby demo? How do they compare?? I am very interested in knowing this for when I buy my next vacuum.

Another one that is totally in love with my Dyson Animal.:lovestruc Our dog is shedding like crazy right now and I am amazed at what this vacuum picks up when I use it, which is 2x per day right now. I also love that it has a 5 yr warranty.

I have an Oreck and really love it! I researched the heck out of vacuums before making the purchase. I have two large dogs and you would never know it!:thumbsup2

I totally forgot about the Kirby brand! I have to check them out since I have heard good things about them in the past. I got a few fliers in the paper this morning with Dysons advertised, so we are going to take a look at them tomorrow evening as well.

It's tough going through life without a vacuum with 3 kids!

I've owned my Dyson Animal for going on 3 years now and I totally love it still. Vacuuming shouldn't be a pleasure, but it is. I have a labrador & a wonder mutt. You wouldn't believe how much hair & dust this thing picks up!!
I've seen a Kirby demonstration more than once and just don't think it did as good a job as my Dyson. The first time, I was at my Aunt's house when the Kirby guy came by. He actually damaged her carpet with it. It pulled bits loose, making it look all fuzzy. They guy had to call his supervisor to come over to the house and look at it. They ended up replacing the carpet in her living room.

Wow! What a way to get new carpet in your house! I spent the night researching Dysons and I think that's what we are buying soon!

We have a Dyson as well..I dont think its as great as everybody stated:confused3
We have a lot of dog hair in this house, I have 2 dogs, 2 foster dogs, and doggie customers;) , so we have a lot of hair.

For example, we vacummed last night, I mean we vacuumed well, emptied the canister thing many, many times just to do the living room, and I can still see doghair on the floor :confused3 . Sure it got a majority of it, but not all of it. Maybe I am just expecting too much from a vacuum?

I have an Orek... I love it - I beleive it is about 8 yrs old now and works as good as it did day 1.. I have replaced 2 belts the entire life so far...
Picks up well, including bird seed from the parrott.

what I can tell you is. DO NOT BUY AN ELECTROLUX. I hate mine but for the cost I can't just toss it. It is too heavy, the first one I had the wheel fell off in 10 mos but the one good thing is they did replace the whole vacuum due to the wheel falling off. HTH.

If you have the $$$ you can't go wrong with a Rainbow. I've had mine for over 10 yrs and I'm stll amazed at how well it picks up. It is a pain sometimes because you have to fill it with water, but when you see what it picks up its worth it.

I recently wanted a "regular" vacuum for when I don't feel like dragging out the Rainbow. Consumer Reports rated the Eureka Boss higher than the Dyson and it's only about $150. I bought mine at Lowes and love it. It comes with a pet hair attachment for upholstery and works pretty well also.
