Vaccine not approved for kids yet... would you still travel?

I wouldn't say judgey. Everyone is just posting what they would do. It's up to each individual household to decide what's right for them.

i think I’m more referring to all the general judging going on regarding covid. If your kids go to school , if they don’t go to school, if they play sports, if you don’t let them play sports, those kids going to sports that still carpool , those that don’t. if you grocery shop vs the “ I only do grocery pickup “ .. those who will still eat at restaurants those who won’t..
It’s all just too much ..
And if you haven’t felt any of the pressure , or judgement , you are very lucky ..

When you and your adult family members are fully vaccinated... would you still consider traveling if the kids cannot get it yet? I think it would be challenging for any parent to make that decision. Since I have kids, I don't think I will be able to return to WDW with them until they can get the vaccines too. So it is almost for sure that 2021 is a no for us.

Since we know that after a year of Covid data that our kids are at a greater risk of dying in a car crash on the way to the airport than dying of covid- absolutely I would go without them being vaccinated. Comparably, I would like to see at least a year of Covid vaccine data in children before I make a decision if we are ever going to vaccinate them for Covid. As another poster stated above, we are also not anti-vaxxers, our kids are up to date on all of their shots, but this one is just too new right now. Not judging anyone else's choice or level of comfort, this is just our own family's personal preference.

lol the 2 week quarantine keeps us from wanting to go anywhere, and now we don't even have the Atlantic bubble anymore. Last summer forced us to try new things at home, and that was not a bad thing.

So true! Luckily we are campers (Someday, Fort Wilderness, someday), and we explored SO much of our province last year - from Shelburne right to Mira. This year our plans include Yarmouth and the Highlands. We are so fortunate to live in an spot with rural natural beauty that is so accessible. But I still miss WDW. :D

Yes. I'm letting my children sit in a classroom six hours a day now (and no distancing going on, let me tell you). And they aren't vaccinated now so for me personally, I'd feel like a hypocrite if I send them to school but say travel is more dangerous. Just my opinion for our personal situation.

I think the difference between school and WDW is that it's a consistent risk at school - My child is exposed to the same 20 kids every day, not a different 20 kids every day. It's the amount of new exposures I think that would cause the increase in risk, and that's what makes me hesitate on WDW. Really, it's airplanes that worry me the most. I know *they* say that it's low risk, but almost every exposure notification for our province includes air travel, so coming from an area of low transmission I think it's higher risk for me than my daily life. If that makes sense.

I absolutely see where you are coming from for sure. And my response is not meant to be antagonistic, but my kids see way more than 20 of the 'same kids' each day. I have two kids, each in a classroom of 27&28 kids. They are both in cohorts so add another 26& 28 kids to that. Then on the playground they do NOT split them up except between primary and intermediate so again, they are now mixing with upwards of 400 kids on the playground (big elementary school, we have 807 K-7 kids). Masks are NOT mandatory in K-7 here in BC so as much as I tell my kids to wear them, I am realistic in the fact that they don't wear them all day. My husband is a UPS driver who is in a warehouse twice a day with 150+ other people, plus anyone he sees when he's delivering. And we live in a Covid hotspot of BC right now. So that's why I said I would be a hyprocrite if I said no to a vacation when I expose them to all that 5 days a week.

We have been to Disney twice since it reopened. I felt perfectly safe. We can drive there so no flight.

The problem is you can’t see viruses , so you can feel safe and .. I wish the virus had neon lights surrounding it so we knew when to feel unsafe .

This is true. However, logically we also can't foresee ANY risk that may or may not await us on any given day. Will I be the one in a million today who falls down my steps and breaks my neck? Or the one who goes through a red light and dies in a head-on collision? Or the one who drops dead of a heart attack while out for my morning run? Will I be the one who is killed in a natural disaster, or a terrorist attack, or cancer? I guess my point is that there is risk to everything we do and Covid is no different. The difference is that we aren't getting a steady stream of data from the media on those numbers, the way that we are about Covid (for over a year now). Not trying to stir the pot here, just offering a different perspective 💕

Given that perspective I can see why you feel differently than me! Our school system, while not perfect, is quite a bit different. For example, my kids are each in a class of ~23-24 kids at a school of ~700. They are only permitted to socialize with their class, and at recess/lunch each class has its own "zone" to play in which rotates every day so they all get a turn at some point at the coveted playground zone. They have split lunch into two time periods with 10 zones around the school to accommodate this. They do mix at after-school program with a slightly different group of kids, but it's definitely not a free for all as they also have 4 separated groups.

Re, masks: the mandate here is that primary-grade 3 are exempt from wearing in their classroom, but need to wear in common areas like hallway/bathroom. My kid's in a 3/4 split so she has to wear a mask all day. I work from home, and DH's contact at work is limited to the immediate people in his shop (~15-20 on a consistent basis). We also live in NS where "hot spot" activity that leads to lockdowns is somewhere in the neighbourhood of 30-40 cases for the entire province. Definitely a different point of view.

We do plan to travel within Canada if possible. Right now we have to isolate for two weeks upon arriving home, but hoping that will change sometime next month. I get my first dose today, my wife next Thursday. We have two daughters, one who is borderline asthma so we do want to be careful. We were debating going to the 2022 Dopey Challenge if possible, but I'm not sure that will be happening. We've been looking at going to Hawaii for a few years now so we might do that in December to check out the Honolulu Marathon with some friends. Although we appreciate that precautions and restrictions help keep us safer, we don't want to travel if they will severely restrict what activities we can do. We would rather wait a little longer and fully enjoy our next vacation.
