Vacations listed in signatures

I did it for myself. 4 months is a long way out, and its fun to see it count down. I don't really give a flying fig about anyone else looking at it.

Personally, if I see someone else is really close to their vacation, I get a little excited for them. No matter where it is, its still a vacation!

I've never listed my trips. I don't really know why either. :)

2 totally different things. The OP is talking about people listing all their past trips along with where they stayed, concierge and/or views, etc. You're talking about a trip countdown ticker.

4 months will fly by!!! :yay:

In some cases, the sigs can actually be helpful. For example, if I'm planning a Disney HHI trip, and I come across someone that has a trip to HHI in their sig, I may ask them a question about it, or ask for some helpful info.

The same goes for the trip reports. Someone may see my trip report, and may be planning a similar trip, and I would have no problems helping someone out if they wanted some info.

Hi Molly. I just clicked on your trip report link to take a look and saw that your son's name is Eamon. Just wanted to tell you that that is one of my absolute favorite boy names. :thumbsup2

Yay. :goodvibes If you keep reading, be warned, there's a whole lotta off topic goin' on in 'em. :)

Check them out for example a board devoted to camping. You will find lists of trips and lists of campers owned.

Check out a board devoted to cars. You will find the cars and the years owned in signatures.

Good point!

Also, I am on two other disney(land) boards, and I do NOT have a signature on them. Why? Because I don't do my trip reports there, so there's no point. Of course, it means that anything I contribute about DLR doesn't have the "expertise" that my sig might brand it with, so people might not know that I actually might know what I"m talking about, as much as they would if I put my trips in there.

I'm mainly talking about why anybody needs to post about things like their MK view, being concierge/ club level, etc. IMHO..that's usually somebody trying to 'show off' their ability to afford that kind of trip. Nobody needs to know that.

But...to each his own. :hippie:

It might be bragging. Or it might be that they are happy to have had that trip in a different way than for another trip. For awhile I had "concierge" in my DLH pre-trip report link, because that's the sort of trip we were planning. It's a different sort of plan, than when you're going to have to pay for all your waters (at DLR concierge/club level allows you to take bottled water out of the room) and snacks etc. It's a different sort of report than our HoJo trip reports. Let's people know in advance if they want to read it. But with others, sure, it might be bragging. Guess you'd have to ask each person! : )

Not my cup of tea, but at least it is better than when people list their children's disabilities in their signature!

I find that if I'm planning a trip, and I'm reading a thread about a certain resort, I will look at the trip list to see if the posters commenting have stayed at that resort before or not. If there are posts with conflicting information, I'll give more weight to the comment from a poster who has stayed at that resort recently than a poster who has not stayed at the resort or if the stay was a long time ago.

Also, I just like looking at where people have stayed before and when they've gone. I find it interesting.

I've wondered why do people list all their vacations in their signatures?

I understand countdowns, we're excited and looking forward to and planning our vacation. But why list vacations that you took so long ago and not even to Disney.

I like seeing them, so I never thought about it. I think I started doing it because I saw everyone else doing it....and have just been adding to it... lol

I listed all my Disney trips (I've never seen anyone list all their non-Disney trips?) specifically so that people would realize that not everyone on here goes to Disney every year.

I think showing trips makes sense since that's what this board is often discussing. You're giving your Disney history. It makes even more sense on the trip planning forums, but the signature is set up so it shows up on the community board as well.

Exactly...

I'm not bragging but it's a way I keep up with my dates/trips....and I hope it just continues to grow!

:thumbsup2

ooo...jealous much? that's not a very magical attitude.

I'm just doing it to be annoying...:rolleyes1
Besides, it helps me keep up with the number of stays question Disney asks in the phone menu whenever I call for anything ;)

I write alot about my past experiences in hoping to help a fellow traveler with a need in the future.

My trips listed below help me to actually remember them! :upsidedow

But yes, I wanted all of you to be jealous of my stay at the Grosvenor.

I think it is fun and interesting to see when everyone has made a trip or trips. I also like being able to have a mini stroll down memory lane when I see my own.

I agree that it's not out of place here on the Dis. Listing where and when (Poly, June, 2006, for example) I'm sure would suffice. I'm mainly talking about why anybody needs to post about things like their MK view, being concierge/ club level, etc. IMHO..that's usually somebody trying to 'show off' their ability to afford that kind of trip. Too much time on their hands perhaps? Not everyone has a garage to clean you know.;)

But I do agree with you, the addition of upgraded stays does seem a little pretentious.

I think it just makes it easier to answer questions vs. "I went back in 2005" gets tiring writing it out all the time (or it did way back when) & then saying where you stayed, etc....

It seemed to me it was just easier to say when/where you stayed & I just linked the trip report. I never gave it much thought & on the planning boards it just made my life easier back then so left it. Also, much easier than trying to search back for my trip report.

This is my thought as well. When posting on the resorts board if someone says "SoAndSo Resort is the best Mod" and you look at their signature and it is the only place they have stayed at, I will take it with a grain of salt. If someone has all of the mods listed, I'd give their opinion a little more weight.

And it also helps me remember where I stayed and when. :)

there is someone here who has vacationed elsewhere?

My list links to my photo galleries for each trip.

MIkeeee

Mine reason is pretty simple.........I list mine as sort of a journal. It really helps me remember who was there, what we did, etc.

In some cases it might be a family that have saved forever for that view, someone who just survived cancer, adopted a child or just wants the world to celebrate something great with them!
Be happy for them:)

When people drive a nice car or have a lovely engagement ring is that also showing off?:confused3

I just thought it was a way to "get to know" fellow dissers and this being a Disney discussion board I thought it was proper. Kinda like personalizing our space. To me it is like picking out a avatar, putting cute sayings in, etc. I never really thought of it as bragging but just sharing info with fellow dissers.
