Just wondering,

How much money do you usually spend on a vacation in total? & how many people are in your family?

My parents & I are currently having a debate on how much people usually spend. And this is also a personal reference for me.

If you can't/dont want to post it here, can you pm me?

Husband and I (so 2 adults) $1000-$1500 for a full week. This includes everything.

I think you're going to see numbers all over the map here. I know that's true for my family. A lot depends on whether your drive or fly, have a place to stay with family or friends or have to rent a place, etc.

We just took a family vacation (5 of us) to the beach for a week. The house belongs to friends of ours who generously offered us the use of it for the week. We drove and ate all of our meals in. Cost for the week was the $70 in gas we spent and another $250 in a case of wine we gave the homeowners.

One year DH and I went on vacation to a pretty exclusive resort in the British West Indies. We spent about $7,000 for the week for the two of us.

We are a family of 4. 2 adults, DS will be 15, and DD will be 17 months when we go in May 2011. We will be staying at CSR with the deluxe dining plan that is $3000, tickets are $780, and I will try to have at least $1500 for tips and souvenirs. I will give DS some money. He has been earning some watching his sister while I ChaCha and doing random chores around the house but we usually give him around $200 for his spending.

Wow, didn't realize it was that much. Around $5500 for 8 days, Saturday to Sunday. I was supposed to keep it under $5000. :rotfl:

Epends on many factors that I don't have an average.

In 2004 for a family of four including airfare and first class Eurorail RT from London to Paris--we spent about $5-6k for 2 weeks and that was with us economizing and renting apartments in London and Paris and staying with a friend on a jaunt to Wales.

We are going to Williamsburg next month. We are a family of 6 (but 1 is an infant and has zero travel costs). We have a $99 hotel rate for Marriot for 4 nights and will have a deal on passes for Williamsburg so that will cost no more than $150 for full access for 5 days. Then allthat is left is food. There will be one splurge meal at a Tavern, doing in room breakfasts and then filling in as best as we can economize without eating crappy. It costs $30-$50 to feed our family in a restaurant. We have to figure out how to save pennies on that. So we are looking at about $1500 for 5 days for a family of 5.5.

Disney in 2012 will be DVC and for the first time...regular ticket prices. Hoping to get that trip to no more than $2000 or so. But I have no idea if that is outlandish or not. Plan to go for a week and make great use of the kitchen.

Prices will vary family to family and even trip to trip within he same family.

Our two nights in July to Disney for dd's 10th birthday was outrageous. $350 at bbb and then whatever we paid for 3 adults and 2 children to eat at the castle. Then my son's $80 ticket as he was 3. The rest if us had the voluntear tickets from give a day get a day. However both my 10 yo and my 7yo sacrificed all else for their birthdays for the experience. But $1000 for 1 day is usually not how we roll. (okay---not THAT much...but if you include Boma for 5 from the day before---that hurt!)

We do a big vacation every other year, the other year will be a visit to the grandparents, maybe a night here or there to a hotel for a night and sighsee around there, but all very inexpensive. Our big trip runs us about $3000-3500 for our family of 5. Our package to Disney this year is 10 nights, 6 days base tickets and free dining for 4 of us (on DD is on her grandparent's room) and the package is $2252.97, we drive so there is gas and then extras.

Our two week trip to Florida next year will probably run about 10,000.:scared1:Thats if we get a 40% discount:rotfl:. Planning on renting a 1bdr villa for 11 nights plus dlx dining and 3 nights at US. We did not take a vacation for 6 years while I stayed home with kids. Now I have a great job so were making up for it. Our other vactions are to see family or maybe a night or two in a hotel. Now that I'm working we plan on taking one really great vacation a year.:woohoo:

We haven't been on a real vacation for 2 years. It's only me and the 2 kids going and it's costing us 7370.00 But I am splurging a little.

Depends....we've done the beach thing(stayed with friends) for under $100 for the week (brought our own food)

We've done WDW for 5-7 nights for anywhere from $1800 (drove, stayed value, free dining) to $5000 (flew, stayed moderate, lots of OOP for sit down meals)

We have 4 in our family.

We also did a week long WDW for just DH and I...that was $3400 (airfare, and platinum dining~14 years ago)

Family of 4 - 2 adults, 2 children

3 trips per year to WDW, with a year off after 3rd. (So we only buy annuals, every other year.)

Annual Passes - @ $1150
Airfare - @ $750 per trip (x3) = $2250
Room - FREE through DVC :-)
Food - @ $600/trip = $1800

So that's $1150 + $2250 + $1800 = $5200
Divided by 3 trips = $1733/trip.

DVC rocks!

Not to be too technical, but DVC isn't free, and any calculation of annual vacation costs would have to include at least the yearly maintenance fees. We used to own 500 points, and that ran us about $2,000 a year. And that's not even factoring in the initial cost, opportunity cost....that kind of thing. The only way DVC is free is if someone bought it for you and pays the yearly maintenance.

Depends on where we go. Small vacation to a swim meet - about $300 for over night for 3 of us in a suite with food and gas. To $2400 for 6 days at Disney in moderate with dining and small discount. We also do small trips like 2 days to a destination places within driving distance and I fly to swim meets and they can cost me around $500 alone.

We usually spend about $3000 for the 4 of us but last year we lost our home to a fire so now that our new house is finally done, we desperately NEED a vacation. We are staying at the Poly for 11 nights with park hoppers and free dining. That was $5700. We are flying so that is another $700 and I am planning on bringing about $2000 for tips and souvenirs!! We leave on Wednesday!!!:cool1:

Wow it really depends on what type of vacation -

We have 4 in my family

for a beach type/amuesment park type vacation for about a week, we might spend about 2000.00

But for Disney we do 8-10 days and spend about 5000.00

next year we're doing a 9 night cruise thinkin it might run about 7500.00 -Real Expensive - hope we Love it..

I think my budget for this year is $4100, my spreadsheet in on my CPU at home, but that includes everything I could think of.

We are staying 6 nights at BLT renting points, Deluxe Dining, tips, Photopass CD, DH's golf, SeaWorld tixs, spending $$, gas (we drive), hotel on way back, meals at SeaWorld. We have APs and those aren't included in this total as they aren't due for renewal until February.

I try to over budget, that way there aren't any surprises.

That is what I was thinking too!

There is no way I could afford that "free" DVC mentioned....ok, well, I could, but it isn't what we spend our money on.

But, I can't even afford "free" dining! :rotfl2:

Here is our vacation to Disney....other vacations vary:

$200-$250- SkyAuction Condo for 7 nights
$750- Disney YES hoppers (occasionally we get APs too)
$200- food for the week (plus about $150 from our normal grocery budget)
$250- gas to get there and back and around Orlando
$100- dog sitting to the neighbor

$1500- total for a family of 5

If we have any Disney rewards dollars from Disney Visa we use that to off-set the price as well, making it even less.

The way we do Disney is NOT the way most like to do Disney, but for us, this works. We are not huge fans of Disney food, although we have eaten at most Disney places as we do eat at least two meals in the parks each visit. We also don't like staying in hotel rooms anymore, and with 3 kids, the Values aren't even an option anymore. A condo on-site is about the same price for ONE NIGHT that we spend for an entire week off-site, so we just can't justify staying on-site.

Now, we do travel off-season and that helps save $$. We also carry one of these into the parks and eat most of our own food:

I got it at Target for $27, but it has saved us hundreds! Between Disney trips and day trips to the zoo or museums or parks......I love this backpack! It can easily carry a full meal, lots of waters, and heavy snacks for a family of 5 for the day.

budgeting $ 8000++ (that includes a lot of shopping) :rolleyes1 for a solo trip to FL. Have not been to Fl in 4 years, coming from overseas.

I work hard and play harder!

Holy crap! :scared1: How many people are included in your trip? Have fun and enjoy yourself. :D

We did two weeks in Florida this year--family of 5. We drove and stayed a week at Disney with QSD in POR. Then we drove to the Port of Miami and did a 3 night cruise to the Bahamas. Took our time driving back and stopped at several different beaches along the way home so our drive there and back included about 4 different hotel stays that I got at discount prices.

We spent $5K for the entire trip. We don't go on a big vacation like that every year. So far, that has been the most we have ever spent on vacations so that's extravegant for us. We do like to plan and it will probably be a couple of years before we take a big trip like that again.

We've gone to DisneyWorld/Land four our family of 5 and spent $2K or less. Did Yellowtone/GTNP, Hawaii, Alaska from $5K-3K.
