I posted on another link, but maybe I'll get better responses here??

Anyway some close friends of our are trying to plan a long weekend AWAY from the kids sometime next year... Our only request is that we don't have to rent a car! We want to be able to walk or easy transportation to shopping, resturants etc.... also a great pool area is a must!
At the moment we don't have updated passports and not sure we will be our trip, so I guess we have to focus on the states...
We are budget minded and middle class, so cost has to be considered.
Any and all ideas welcomed TIA.....

We love the Ritz at lake Oconee -less than an hour from you with a great spa and pools (but pricey)

Yes, Savannah is an idea but we wanted to fly somewhere(Hubby's work for Airlines)so airfare is not an issue, we just don't want to bother with the renting of a car....
Would possibly like a beach, but nice affordably to us (hilton , marriott type etc)like hotel/resort... The Ritz is not in our budget or our type....Keep the ideas coming!:)

Downtown Chicago. You can fly in, take the Blue Line downtown. I stayed at the Sheraton on Water for a convention - great location. You have Lake Michigan, more shopping and food than you could ever do in a single trip.

I would recommend Santa Fe...I'm not bias since I live in NM. You can stay and shop and eat in Old Town. Not too expensive, depending on where you stay. There are all types of museums and historical sites to visit in Old Town. Look into it...you'll love it!

You can still go to WDW - DH and I do not have children (yet) and we are at disney all the time... It is still fun for adults!

Key West, Hilton Head, New Orleans, Vegas... I will keep thinking...

I'm suggesting San Antonio Texas. There are tons of hotels on the Riverwalk-there is tons of shopping and restaurants there too. It's got a nightlife too. And of course, history with the Alamo and King William Historic district. It's one of my favorite weekend getaways. Actually I just got back from there after a week's stay. Not sure which I liked better, a visit in the summer with all the flowers of this time of year with all the Christmas lights and cooler tempratures and smaller crowds. I walked everywhere I went except the outlet malls 45 minutes north of the city,

Check out the Sandals Resorts. They are adults only and all inclusive. My wife and I went to the one in the Bahamas and loved it. They have 7 or 8 restaurants, swim-up pool bar, and plenty of other bars and lounges. No transportation is needed since everything you need is right at the resort. If you feel like getting out, Paradise Island is close by and easy to get to. And best of all, no kids....

I would definately choose Vegas or New Orleans. Both of those are best done as adults IMO. New Orleans is my personal favorite adult trip. We stayed at a B & B right on the edge of the Quarter this past April when we went and the location was terrific. We could walk to all the restaurants, bars, casino and shops. There is plenty shopping to be done there if you have the inclination(the LUSH store was my downfall!!!). And, remember that right now New Orleans does need your money.

I'd go to Vegas!!! My DH and I love to go to Vegas...we don't gamble much, but we get nice hotel rooms, sleep in....order room service....it's GREAT!!!

for warm weather....
definately the caribbean.....an all inclusive...sandals...club med...
or
NYC is awesome...let me know if ya need info :thumbsup2
Chicago is also awesome...
happy planning

Like I said before Vegas...but if you get a passport, I'd go to Jamaica. Couples.com has some NICE resorts...we went to Couples swept away for our honeymoon, and a friend of mine went to Couples Negril and we both loved them!! Been to Jamaica twice and the beaches are awesome!!! :thumbsup2
