We have 20 5th graders that we want to have a Vday party for in class. We are doing the typical stuff...decorating shoeboxes for the valentines, decorating heart shaped cupcakes, etc.

I also want to do a fun "game" and the winner will get a prize (you know, a small trinket, my point is, I want just one winner) and I was wondering if anyone here has any suggestions? I always get such good input here on this board, so I really appreciate some help on this topic.

Thanks!

Trivia? Like facts about your town, school, etc...

Deal or No Deal?

We did that for a game one year, it was fun. You can do it in groups and then whoever got the most points wins. We did about 12 "suitcases", I think. It has been awhile.;)

Who is Smarter Than a 5th grader? Maybe you can modify it to be who is smarter than a 4th grader?

Who wants to be a Millionaire is fun. Whoever has the most points wins.

This year in DD's 5th grade class they are having every student bring in a baby picture. They will all be displayed and the students have to identify who is who. The student who identifies the most will win a prize. I thought this was neat and different.

I think this is a great idea! We did somehthing like this with my DD's Girl Scout troop and had a lot of fun with it.

Something that my DD's middle school class is doing, just for fun, no prizes, is... the kids are each bringing one boxed food item. They are playing Jenga with them and then donating the food to the local food pantry.

Thanks for the responses!

Hi MM!

Ok, when you say Deal or No Deal, do you mean you buy the board game, at say, Target or something? And then, can the entire class participate? I have only seen one person at a time play Deal or No Deal. Same with Who Wants To Be a Millionaire. Maybe there are games where a group of 20 can play, and if so, let me know. I have only seen the TV versions of the two games.

Minnie and Aristo-I love that game, thanks for the reminder...maybe we will do that at the end of the year. At this point, I don't want to have to contact all the parents to send in a picture so last minute. I remember playing that game when I was a kid! I am very all american looking (blond hair, green eyes, etc) but I was born with jet black hair. I always won that game! :) No one could figure out it was ME!

No, you play the TV version.

I did not set it up however not sure how it would work with only 1 prize. We did it just for fun and the kids had a blast.

Oh, ok, well, I don't own that game. I was thinking of something more old fashioned. hmmm...

You don't own it, you just modify the TV version of the game for a classroom.;)

It is fun. The kids can participate as "the models" holding suitcases.

Now we did have someone in the wings who would switch the papers around so the kids had no idea what was in the suitcase.

It is easy. You have about 10 suitcases with amounts and then 1 contestant picks just like on the game show.

I think we left out the negotiation part, so the game would move pretty fast.

Stacking conversation hearts with chopsticks! Who can do the most in the shortest amount of time. I use the big hearts for the 3rd graders, but to make it more difficult you could use the smaller ones. You can also do some sort of bingo. Look up Vday bingo and you'll find all sorts of printables.
