How do you decide when you want your UY to be? Is it a month or two before you usually vacation? Also, is it best to have all of your points from different resorts that same UY or do you stagger them?

If you purchase resale you have no choice unless you specifically avoid contracts with certain UYs. If you are buying directly from Disney, they may only have certain UYs available.

But if you have a choice, you would want to be able to make a reservation in you UY that if you had to cancel, you would still be able to use the points. Like you said, a month or two before you usually vacation.

You would want the same UY for each contract . . . it simplifies booking windows for each. DVC will not sell you different UYs with add-ons, unless inventory is not available for your UY.

If you wanted a particular UY, then the easiest way of doing that would be through resale. Choose a contract that has the UY you want. My 1st contract was at OKW with an April UY - which is the best for me. All my add-ons are also April (as I bought direct from DVC for add-ons).

Good luck!

Keeping a single UY makes life a lot easier, not only for you but for MS. We have 2 different UYs right now and at 7 months you can use points from both UYs. Member Services has messed me up twice, using points from the wrong contracts/UYs. They are currently auditing our contracts to try and figure out what went wrong. :sad2:

I have been finding that they are doing the same with my two contracts.

If you are worried about cancellation and the banking window then try to pick a UY, which is a month that you would no typically travel in the 3 preceding months.
