I'm not sure I understand...
Since I intend to travel in June, I'm better off having a UY of September or October, since that will give me time to reschedule a trip during my UY in case something comes up?
Thank you all for all of your help...the Dis ROCKS!!!
No, you want a UY that happens just before you typically travel so you are traveling at the beginning of the UY.
If you are a June traveler, than June works out well (unless you could go in May and then I would go with April).
Let's assume an April UY. You want to travel in June 2011. This would happen in your April 2011 UY, which runs from April 1st, 2011 through March 31st, 2012. If you had to cancel that trip, you would still be within your banking window for current UY points (the first 8 months), or still have 9 months left in your UY to reschedule the trip or use up any borrowed/banked points since those would all expire March 31st, 2012.
Now, if you had a Sept UY, your June 2011 travel would be happening in your Sept 2010 UY (Sept 1st, 2010 - August 31st, 2011). If you had to cancel a June trip in this situation after April 30th (but before 31 days prior), you would be beyond your banking window for current UY points so they would have to be used by August 31st, only two months later. Same thing for any banked/borrowed points--you would have only two months to use them before they expire.
Remember, your UY has no affect on when you can call and book a trip. You only have to have the points at the time of travel and not when you call. For June trips, your 11 month window will always be in July. When you call, MS will look at your account, determine which UY you are traveling and then use banked points from the prior UY first, current UY points of time of travel, and borrow any points from the next UY if you need them.
