There are lots of UY questions and I apologize for yet another one. However, I understand them and simply want to make sure I chose the best one for our situation.

We travel in the Feb/March now because our daughter is not yet in school, in the future we will travel in March/April due to Spring break Or but not as likely in the summer (already live in NC and have little intention of going anywhere else that is hotter than where I already live:rotfl:). With that said, I can see us doing some travel in the fall as we get older and oh by the way, we do want to go down there every few years during the holidays for a few days....Now because our primary timeframe over the next 10 years or so will be in the Spring sometime, with an occassional holiday time period thrown in does it still make sense to stick with February? Next year we are going down the first week of Feb but in the future will probably be in March. I can still change our UY, haven't signed the docs yet so wanted to ask the experts before officially becoming a DVC Member!!!

As always, Thanks everyone!!:thumbsup2

The only problem with the use year is if you have to cancel a trip after your banking window you will need to use the points up before they expire.

Since you are going to have this for 50 years- the time you go will always be changing so if a FEB use year works now, it may not work when the kids are older and only can come down during the holidays.(or during January winter break) If one would cancel at Christmas after your banking window closed, would you be able to use the points before they expire?

We have a June use year and always go in Feb. I guess I really never thought about it. But we probably won't be going in Feb forever. We actually went in April this year and we would have lost our points if we had to cancel since it was way past our booking window.

I'd pick the one that works for you best now, but keep in mind what your future travel will be like for the next 10-20 years. If you will travel during the holidays Feb may not work best for you. Dec would be better imo!

We are in a similar situation. I refuse to go to FL in the summer. Because of this, we chose an Oct. UY. With Oct., we have until the end of May to bank.

Actually, if you don't forsee wanting to go to WDW in the summer, then you may want to consider a Fall UY.

A Dec UY would cover the holidays (you mention seeing that happening) and all your spring trips. It would even cover the summer if you ever had to go then due to school schedules. You would have until July 31st to bank any points so you would always be within that window if you had to cancel some of those spring trips.

Now, a Dec UY doesn't work very well for Oct/Nov trips, but no UY is going to cover every season.

The other option would be Oct. That would cover trips in the Fall (including Thanksgiving), the holidays, and in the spring. Summer trips would not be covered, but you have said those are the least likely time for travel. You would have until May 31st each year to bank points.

But given that your primary trips will be Spring and the Holidays, I would consider chosing Oct or Dec instead!

Good luck!

Feb is fine. Then again, just about any use year is fine for you. If you travel in different months - and most of us will over the next 50 years - what's a good use year for one trip is a bad use year for another. It'll mostly even out over time. Don't worry about it.

The only folks who should put a ton of thought into use year are those who really expect to travel the same time of year for the next 50 years. And even then, it's probably not as big a deal as some think.

My view is that Feb is fine. You are basically saying for now you will be doing Feb to April time trips for quite some time. Stick with it in that case.

One main reason to do so is that you will get 2009 points from Disney that were effective Feb 1, 2009 (which you can use this use year or bank into next). If you go back and ask for a Dec or Oct use year, you are likely going to be told that is fine but you won't be getting any points until Oct or Dec 2009 (that is certain for BLT; if buying AKV you might still sneak in for some Dec 2008 points but questionable). Thus, stay with the Feb use year if you want points effective immediately.
