We are coming end of July and plan to hit the parks early morning, back to room by noon then head back over around 5 pm. Just curious if the UV index is something you have to worry about at that time of day?

My son and I are both very fair and burn extremely easy, so wanting to be prepared on what to expect so I can plan accordingly.

We are the same. In the summer we usually do one last application at 5:00. I mean if you did one at 4:00 and you haven’t been swimming you’re **probably** ok, but anything before 4:00 and I think you need one more.

I always apply one last coat of sunscreen when we head back around 4-5. I also bring makeup wipes and wipe the sunscreen off once the sun goes down just to feel a little fresher and it typically cools me off. I've had basal cell carcinomas removed twice and have an increased chance of skin cancer so if the sun is out, the sunscreen is on.

Thank so much everyone! I appreciate all the replies.

We have never been in the summer, so I’m a little concerned how we will do.

I have bought us hats, sunscreen,UV umbrella (umbrella is mainly for me due to medication I take/sun exposure, my son said he was fine with hats).

Looking at the hourly forecast today on The Weather Channel where the UV Index is "Extreme" during the day, it shows a UV index of "9" at 3pm, "4" at 4pm, "3" at 5pm, and "1" at 6pm.

I have a red headed daughter and is she's pretty fair. She usually wears a hat and she reapplies sunblock several times though out the day since you will sweat it off, and/or get rained off and yes, you need to be worried about sun exposure at 5pm. Really with sunset well after 8 in July, I'd say by 6ish you would no longer need to apply any additional sunblock. Also, since you said you've never been in the summer, you may need a heads up, noon is not really the hottest time of day, it will feel hotter from 3pm-5pm than it will at noon.

This is a great idea, I will start checking dark sky weather app periodically,😀 thank you!

Oh wow, I would’ve never thought about the uv index being strong after 5ish, so that’s good to know..we may wait a little bit later to head over.

Hoping they start extending the park hours a bit so we will have more time to enjoy the parks/rides.

I guess showering before heading back to the parks isn’t worth it until your in for the night.

Thank you ☺️

I am also very fair (thanks Swedish ancestors). We apply sunscreen (mineral even though it’s kind of a pain) by 830-9, again at 12ish, and last round around 4. I think you can still burn in the Florida sun at 4-5. My husband is Italian, but I make him do the same sunscreen schedule. DD and I have the sun hats, DH will wear a ball cap, and everyone has sunglasses. Don’t forget Lip balm with sunscreen too!

Thank you so much!

I just ordered some hats through Eddie Bauer for us both.

Great idea on the lip balm, wouldn’t have thought of that.

We probably won’t head back over to the parks until 5pm, I’ll make sure to check the weather app on the UV index before heading over. I’ll also carry my sunscreen with us

I'm glad you have the UV blocking umbrella! I burn easily and the umbrella helps me way more than sunscreen does, although I use both. Also helps slightly with overheating.

I'm very fair skinned and if the sun is out (even if it's overcast or later in the day), I need sunscreen. I'd be prepared to use it all the time until it gets dark.

I have several of the long sleeve shirts that are UV protection. I have shirts from Coolibar and the Columbia sun protection shirts. I just got back from a week at Disney and it was hot, but the shirts were nice as I didn't have to worry about sunscreen on my arms and pretty much covers your neck as well. Moisture wicking material and not too hot for me.

This is a great idea! I did this on our trip out west but there wasn’t any humidity. Do you hot in log sleeves with the humidity? I also hate sunscreen (I think I have some sensory issues with the stickiness etc).

Set to broil in the afternoon vs fry in the late morning. I am German/Irish and begin to burn when I see the sun shining outside.
