Anyone planning to head to DLR for Spring Break 2011? We went last year. We were in the parks Sat-Wed. As the week went on, it was busier and busier. You could sure tell that Alpine School District and probably others were out of school.

Just wondering if anyone is making plans yet!
TIA!

The dates for Alpine's spring break 2011: April 11-15

We've never been over spring break but we've braved the October crowds several times...including this year.

We've never been there for the fall break....thought about it. How are the crowds? Lots of people from Utah?

No, we're going to wait and go right after school gets out. My kids spring break doesn't line up with dh's, so we'll just wait and go the first week of June. I'm hoping that we'll miss some of the major crowds then, as the California schools won't be out yet.

I hadn't thought about that. That would be a great time to beat the crowds and not have my oldest miss out on any of his junior high classes!

No way!!!!!!! I don't have any problem taking my kids out of school for vacation. I know.....it's taboo.....but seriously, they learn as much while we are gone as they can learn in school. It's getting harder now that I have a high schooler but really, his teachers have been AMAZING already in knowing that he'll be gone for 2 days. They are super willing to work around our schedule and make sure he has what he needs! :)

Utah DISer checking in. :thumbsup2

We'll probably go down sometime in the summer. My in-laws live in Corona, so we stay with them and spend the evenings at the park. We've found we can have a lot more fun that way.

We are going down for the fall break this year for the Halloween party. I am so looking forward to it.

We went spring break of 2010 and will be going again the week after UEA weekend. We went during UEA last year. It was crowded last year but nothing unbearable. Spring break was insane though but that's to be expected. No problem taking my soon to be 9 year old out of school (she turns 9 3 days before we leave) it's like a birthday vacation for her. Can't wait to be in the land again:banana:

I honestly love taking my kids out of school for vacation, but my 13 year old had a bad experience one time and now hates to miss the work and have to make it up. (Weird, I know!) Its been awhile since we've done that, so I'm thinking its time to do it again!

I really want to go sometime that the Christmas decor is up, but NOT when it is super busy. Maybe next year.....I HATE waiting!!!

We are going over Christmas this year. We'll be there Dec 8-12. We've always gone in late April/early May and we're excited for a change. However, I keep seeing all these photos of Halloween time and I think we may shoot for October next year.

As a teacher, I understand that vacation isn't always convenient at the times we have "scheduled time off". However, I think that going on vacation is as much a learning experience as being in class is. When I know ahead of time, I always assign my students a writing project that involves their vacation, in lieu of making up any work we did in class. Even tests. Of course, I teach elementary and that's a little different than secondary but still.....there is so much we can learn from traveling.......

There is definitely MUCH to be learned from traveling. Thanks for the reminder!

You will love a Halloween time trip! We went the end of Sept one year and absolutely loved all of the decorations and treats!

We just got back today from vacation...we took our kids out for 6 days. Before we left, we requested the school work that they would miss so they could do it while we were gone. I was surprised at the amount of work they received but am glad we requested it. With the parks closing early, it gave them plenty of time to get their work done at night.

I also agree that there is MUCH to be learned from a vacation...even Disneyland. I will probably pull them for another trip in December (for two days).

We'll be there this October for fall break. DS's break doesn't actually line up with dh's this year, but he's in kindergarten and I don't have any problem with him missing a few days. We'll be there for his 6th birthday and I am SO excited. He doesn't even know we're going yet!

How fun, Daniele. Enjoy! I figure, they're only little once. You'll never get it back. Admittedly, as a teacher, we have SO MUCH to cover over a year that it's hard when they're gone. However, I know that more often than not, they are learning and growing while on vacation. They aren't learning what I have to teach them, per se.....but they are learning about being people, with real lives, and real responsibilities. Even though they don't really know it, they are learning these things. That's important to me as a teacher.

Anyhow - I hope you enjoy your vacation and don't feel one second of guilt for taking him out of school!!!!! He's little. Love him while you can. :)

That will be so much fun! I love surprising the kids with a trip!! We did it last year for Spring Break. The Easter Bunny arrived early with a special surprise for them. We all loved it!!

To answer the original question - we have determined as a family that we hate traveling to DLR over Spring Break. We were there this last Alpine School Break and it was waaaayyyy too crowded for us and way tooooo busy.

We had AP's so opted to spend a beach day instead of DL since we were so done with the crowds and didn't feel like we were "wasting" our park tickets.

We have a University student and a 9th grader and it is hard to go with them during school times, but we have no problem taking our younger kids to DLR and taking them out of elementary school. Our DS14 is not as into DLR as he used to be and our DS 22 has never been a big DLR fan. We didn't take him when he was younger. :scared1:

We've been during Fall Break and Spring Break and during Candlelight Processional weekend and CM Christmas Parties and MUCH prefer quieter times. We love the first week of November and end of Jan. first of Feb. or end of Feb. first of March before the spring craziness hits.

Utahns here and no we don't visit DLR over Spring Break or UEA *SB is always Easter weekend ~ I'd rather be at home* *we did visit WDW over UEA break last year and we had a great time ~ however it was super hot/humid* DD and I visited DLR over the 4th of July weekend this past July *her B-day is 7/3* we had a fantastic time and plan to go again next year for her 8th B-day. We'll visit DLR over Thanksgiving weekend this year ~ my kids will miss no school.

My thoughts exactly! The only thing that saved us this past spring break was that we left home on Friday and were in the parks Saturday through Wednesday. The crowds built the entire time we were there. By Wednesday we had enough. We only went to the park to hit a last few rides, but didn't even do that. I think we went on one and decided that was it.
