Thanks for reminding me. I hope I see it on the news today. My dd just went with her day camp this past summer. I have passed by it hundreds of times but have never been there yet. You know how it is with NYorkers, we know we have all of these tourist attractions but never visit. LOL!

Guess I have to wait two years now.

NEW YORK - After 24 years at the same Hudson River pier, the legendary aircraft carrier USS Intrepid was inched out of its berth by powerful tugboats on Monday — but the trip got underway because it got stuck in the mud as the tide went down.



The mission was scrubbed for the day at around 10:30 a.m., according to Dan Bender, a Coast Guard spokesman.

The Intrepid's giant propellers got stuck in the mud as the tugboats strained to move the behemoth. It eventually began inching backward out of its berth, but moved only a few feet.

"We knew it was not going to come out like a cruise ship," said Matt Woods, the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum's vice president for operations.

The legendary aircraft carrier was being moved to New Jersey for a $60 million overhaul.

Why the heck are they trying to move it anyway? Just leave her there & refurbish her where she sits. It will probably cost an arm & a leg to move her & then move her back. She BELONGS where she is.

It would be horrible if she got stuck in Jersey after the refurb & they really can't get her out.

They probably need to put the ship in dry dock to work on the hull. It only moved a few feet today because the propellers hung up in the mud.

I'm hoping they dredge the dock area once they get it out.

They probably have to try again during high tide. I did read that it was going to be difficult due to the tons of silt that has accumulated around it over all of these years.

Everytime I drive by the Intrepid, I say I've got to get DH to see this. Well, maybe since they can't move it, they'll re-open it.
