Using WDW tix at DL - any reason NOT to??

Hi,

I have 10 day non-expiring park hopper DisneyWorld tickets. I have 8 days left. They averaged to about $50 per day. I do realize it is more cost-effective to USE these tickets at WDW, but if we're going to DL in a few weeks, is there any reason I should spend anywhere from $70-90 per day on new Disneyland PH tickets instead of using these WDW tix?

Perhaps the answer will depend on whether we plan to use the 8 days at WDW? We definitely plan to use them in the years to come, but not anytime soon. I was thinking I could always buy new 10 day non-expiring tix when we run out. I think we'd only use 2 so would have 6 left.

We live in IL, but have family in FL, so got the tix to use on future visits.

Thanks!

There was just a thread about this last week. The problem that poster encountered was that the folks at DL messed up somehow and took both days off of (2 of their 3) 2-day tickets. It worked fine for their first day, but the second day, they were only given one ticket and told that the other two passes had been all used up.

Because you can't easily check to see how many days they actually took off and it would be a huge hassle if they took off more days than they were supposed to (and you may not know it until your next trip to WDW), I would be very hesitant to to this.

I would keep them for WDW if you don't go there using packages.

Also if you won't likely go for 8 days or a combination like 4 and 4. It may be worth using a day or two. Of course that may only put the perday value at $20 or $30 depending on the length of visit at DLR.

Honestly, I would save the WDW tickets for WDW. I'm a WDW vet, and at the price you paid for those, and the rate they've been increasing over the last few years, if you don't plan to use them for a few years, they will be a great value tomorrow for yesterday's pricing if you know what I mean.

I know you'd prefer not to spend more money when you have a usable ticket in hand, but the value of it can be increased in the future. If you only travel for say 5 night trips every 3-4 years, non expiring tickets are worthwhile, but if you go more often, they are not a good value. Check out the site mousesavers.com in the future to get good prices from Undercover Tourist on tickets.

I'm sure if you hunt around, you can find some discount DL tickets. That's what I would do, but they are your tickets, so you could save the money now by using them, and pay in the future, or save in the future by paying now.

My rule of thumb (as long as you can afford it) is to pay now, rather than tomorrow. Tomorrow always costs more than today.

What about upgrading the WDW tickets to a Disney premier pass? How much credit would they give for the 8 days unused?

How did you end up with a 10 day non-expiring pass but only use 2 days? Thats a lot of money to have spent!!

A lot of people do this. Since the no expire option is available at WDW, not DLR, they are betting it will be cheaper.

The cost per day is low because of the decreasing cost per day of longer tickets. Look at it this way, if the ticket was $500 that is $50 per day. if they bough 5, 2 day tickets that may be $160x5 equals $800, $80 per day.

I have used WDW passes several times at DL. No issues.

I often buy the WDW 10 day no expires, and use them over 2 trips. Sometimes for DL, I just need one more day for some reason, and it is cheaper per day, to take a day off the 10 day WDW pass, then to buy a one day pass at DL.

Generally speaking, I buy DL passes for DL because they cost less, of course.

Tempting to use WDW passes with days left over at DL, if they belong to a family member who is no longer interested in visiting Disney parks too. I have passes with a few days left belonging to adult "kids" of mine, for example. (they don't scan fingers at DL). But I have not done this.

WOW! I didn't know this. At WDW, once a ticket has been used, it can only be used by that person. I need to call around and see if anyone I know has leftover days on their passes for WDW! I don't see us every going back to DL after our June trip, as this is an add on to a work trip, but it's good to know that you can someone else's WDW ticket at DL.

just a side note, not sure how true it is, but I was told by someone heavily involved in law enforcement (on the national level) that Disney uses those fingerprint scanners for more than just the tickets. They also use them to track anyone with a criminal record inside the park. Again, not sure how true it is, but I do trust the person who told me about this.

I was always told that it is not a fingerprint scan, but a biometric scan that measures the bones in your finger or something like that. Fingerprint scans can be very finicky when taking actual finger prints, and with all the people putting their fingers on those scanners, I can't imagine they'd get a viable finger print from every person. Or anyone, for that matter. (That's even if someone was 'in the system'. Really, how would they even flag that?)

Any upgrades to passes have to be done within 14 days of first use.

This is true; we use the same system at work, and the device scans bone density and location of veins inside your hand/finger, not the print itself. Disney historically separates itself from law enforcement whenever possible (14mph speed limit at DLR, for example) so my gut instinct is that your source has been mis-informed.
