Using the Walmart Grocery app to get your groceries, anyone use it?

Wonder if at some point they will start charging a fee, like Disney. It once was free, but......

Well you do have a minimum order..at least we do. I believe it's $30 but it's been that way from the beginning if I remember correctly.

With all this technology I just wonder how long it will be before the job of cashier will be completely phased out? But maybe a new job category will be taking its place in the future.

Not everything a company does means a loss of jobs.

For quite a long time the Walmarts around here don't have ton of cashiers anyways. They'll have the two ends with some cashiers but not the middle lanes. The middle lanes are more used during Black Friday or as Christmas gets closer.

It's just as likely either they hire people specifically for grocery pick up or they pull people to do shifts on grocery pick up. It doesn't necessarily mean they removed cashiers to put them for grocery pick up and def. not the case in the plentiful Walmarts in my area since they haven't been utilizing a lot of cashiers for quite a long time now.

Only cons are some people don’t like others picking out their fruits and veggies. Once they gave me the wrong thing and I wasn’t really sure what to do about it.

I've been thinking about using this service for our next trip, and I definitely do like to choose my own fruits and veggies.

My idea: It doesn't have to be all-or-nothing.
When we arrive at the store, I'll go in and pick my own fruits and veggies. I'll be really quick because I'll be shopping in one department only -- and that department is at the front of the store. Meanwhile, my husband can take possession of the pre-ordered groceries (which will be the majority of the food) and get the bags into the car. I think it'll be fast and efficient if we tag-team it in this way, and I think we'll get the best of both worlds.

At least at our stores you go to a separate place for grocery pick up and they put it in your car for you.

So at least at the ones near me if you want to separate he would drop you off, you'd go in get what you wanted and you'd either meet him at the assigned area for grocery pick up or he comes and picks you up once the groceries are put in the car.

At our Walmart, the pick-up place is right around the corner from a main entrance. It would be easy to get dropped off or walk in, get your produce, check out, then go around the corner (with your cart, even) to meet up with your partner in crime.

When I go, it's usually just me--I run in to get whatever specific things I didn't order, then pull around to the pick-up area. Pro tip: don't check-in online until you're in the pick-up area, otherwise, it says you're "1 minute out" when you maybe haven't even started the car yet.

I know when we had the hurricane, they suspended grocery pick-up for a few weeks, until they could be sure of their distribution chain. I saw some of the pick-up workers doing other jobs within the store, so they were still gainfully employed, getting hours, etc., even though they weren't doing grocery delivery. I told them I missed them!

Yes, that's what we have too, and it makes sense: they want the pick-up area to be very near the door so their employees can deliver /return quickly.

It'd be very easy for our spouse to stay in the car to collect the delivery, while the other walks only 20 feet or so to the main entrance to choose the fresh items. While I haven't used this plan yet, I suspect it'd take about the same amount of time.

I’ve been really happy with Walmart pick up. I checked prices a couple times, and they were exactly the same as in store.

I haven’t had any problems with produce.

There are frequent substitutes, but it always feels like a little win for me. I usually end up getting a bigger package or better brand for same price.

Only downside is meat orders. The size ranges are pretty big. Like steak 1.5 to 2.5lbs. if I was in store, I’d grab a small one.

I also like that DW and I can both add items to the list throughout the week, and it syncs across both phones.

Overall, they have done a really nice job implementing this. Almost makes me want to forgive them for going to mostly self checkout in the store.
